3D Modelling (Architecture)

Thanks to the use of non-invasive techniques and remote sensing in a 19th century building, it was possible to demonstrate that said building is a lost part of the Cáceres wall. This wall was believed to maintain the straight line from a known section, but remote sensing makes it clear that at that point the wall makes a break creating a door of which there was no record. Once this premise was confirmed, an ideal reconstruction hypothesis was developed. For this, the work base was taken on the data collected in an exhaustive data collection process, which launched millions of control points and facilitated in theorizing the original state of this lost section. The HBIM methodology greatly facilitated the process, and will allow for possible modifications with an IFC file as advances are made in that area. Finally, the research proposes an architectural project path that takes into account the data obtained remotely, and that achieves the inclusion of this part of the city in cultural interest and, of course, in a protected and cataloged area.

Under the V-Must project, “Imago Bononiae”
(2013) stands as a real example of how to build-up a reliable and
efficient experimentation caring about the quality and
effectiveness of a gesture-based Virtual Museum application in
relation with game design patterns. This paper focuses indeed on
the user-centric gesture design and progressive gestural skills
(rewards) that user can acquire in order to gain an engaging
experience and a massive comprehension of large urban contexts
mediated by visual strategies, while enabling spatial and
volumetric comparisons. Structured as a serious game, the
project foresaw a user experience evaluation carried out in
occasion of Digital Heritage Expo, held in Marseille in november
2013. During the event, “Imago Bononiae” was studied to
understand more on the interaction’s aspects that take place
between system and user. The visual design features that mostly
connote the main interface and that, consequently, influence the
behavior of users have been studied, like visibility, reliability and
memorability. The affordance of the whole system has been then
observed. Results presented show that “Imago Bononiae” has
proved to be suitable for the large audience given its facilitated
usability and the well-structured game strategy

Building height is a key geometric attribute for generating 3-D building models. We propose a novel four-stage approach for automated estimation of building heights from their shadows in very high resolution (VHR) multispectral images. First, a building's actual shadow regions are detected by applying ratio-band algorithm to the VHR image. Second, 2-D building footprint geometries are identified using graph theory and morphological fuzzy processing techniques. Third, artificial shadow regions are simulated using the identified building footprint and solar information in the image metadata at predefined height increments. Finally, the difference between the actual and simulated shadow regions at every height increment is computed using Jaccard similarity coefficient. The estimated building height corresponds to the height of the simulated shadow region that resulted in the maximum value for Jaccard index. The algorithm is tested on seven urban sites in Cardiff, U.K. with various levels of morphological complexity. Our method outperforms the past attempts, and the mean error is reduced by at least 21%.

The research shows the results of the survey operations and studies made on the St. Giovanni Tower in Campo nell'Elba. The study consist of a 3D Laser Scanner survey campaign, a direct observation of the study object and a photographic survey. The Tower of St. Giovanni was erected during the XI century by the Republic of Pisa, and still today the shape of the tower reveals itself as an observation point strategically attached to the visual network of the island. In the 90s the tower has been restored to preserve its symbolic character. The results of the survey campaign here presented will provide future researchers with updated data about the architectural degenerative evolution; a virtual model allows pecurial observations, comparisons and measurements of dimensional relationships on the territory. The research will finds a conclusion with the comparison between the tangible ruin and the ideal model of St. Giovanni Tower.

Mesto ako globálny fenomén je produkt jednej univerzálnej idey. Koncentrácia ľudských aktivít sledovala zvýšenie ich efektivity, či už išlo o obchod, výrobu, bezpečnosť, vzdelávanie... Ako jednotiaci princíp (využijúc Mumfordov termín „urban implosion“ z jeho knižky The City in History: Its Origins, Its Transformations, and Its Prospects) sa mesto prirodzene kultúrne diverzifikovalo, jeho efektívnosť prekračovala vlastné hranice a opakovane hľadala nové východiská. Globálna vlastnosť mesta je koncentrovaná produkcia a súčasne spotreba. Čoraz zložitejšia logistika produktov a zdrojov vedie k stavu, že súčasné mesto naráža na bariéru vlastnej udržateľnosti. Za prežitie vlastného produktu – mesta je človek čoraz viac zodpovedný.

Súčasná polemika má dve zrejmé platformy. Diskutujeme udržateľnosť mesta z hľadiska jeho materiálneho fungovania a udržateľnosť mesta z hľadiska dichotómie kultúrna identita – globálne generikum. Tieto dve platformy je potrebné zjednocovať, alebo minimálne skúmať rad vertikálnych rezov. Polemika nemôže stáť na nevyhnutnosti voľby energetická + ekonomická ALEBO kultúrna udržateľnosť, pretože pri víťazstve ktoréhokoľvek hľadiska bude mesto atrofovať. Východisko je princíp win-win.

Na jednej strane máme literárne vyjadrenia, pre niekoho melodramatické, na druhej strane seriózny vedecký výskum. Kde leží pravda, ktorú chápeme?, alebo cítime? Aby sme si neskôr nemuseli povzdychnúť spolu s Kurtom Vonnegutom v jeho knižke A Man without a Country: „Dobrotivá Zem – mohli sme si ju zachrániť, ale boli sme príliš nečinní a leniví.“

Autori publikácie vychádzajú z premisy samozrejmosti zachovania kultúrnej identity, skúmajú možnosti udržania fundamentálnych funkcií urbánnych fragmentov, mestských štvrtí, prípadne mesta ako celku. Udržateľnosť je hľadaná v znižovaní ich energetickej spotreby, v rovine stavebných objektov ako hlavných prispievateľov emisií do ovzdušia. Výroba a distribúcia obnoviteľnej energie je skúmaná ako samostatná vrstva a ako proces kultivovania kultúrno-sociálneho súvrstvia mesta. Skúmajú v prvom rade alternatívy, ktoré sú relevantné pre architektúru mesta, pre vznik prípadnej novej estetickej paradigmy architektúry mesta. Skryté technológie nechávajú v druhom pláne. Za premisu považujú pôsobenie slnečnej energie na povrch mesta.

Vynálezy a inovácie nám dnes umožňujú návrat k čistej, bezpečnej energii, ktorá môže čiastočne konkurovať aj jadrovej energetike – jeden z možných scenárov je „solárna revolúcia“. Ovplyvní výraz budúceho mesta podobne ako to urobili priemyselné revolúcie?

Monografia nastoľuje dve primárne situácie – posúdenie potenciálu existujúcej objektovej štruktúry a generovanie optimalizovaných systémov architektúry mesta v prehľadnom veľkostnom systéme. Druhá stratégia je výskum kooperatívneho potenciálu prebytkových a deficitných objektov a ich zoskupení. Teória smartgridov má už solídnu výskumnú základňu, autori sa ňou zaoberajú práve v kontexte našej kultúrnej identity.

Vzťažný systém na posúdenie energetickej efektívnosti prestáva byť jednotlivý objekt, stáva sa ním urbánny fragment v rozmere smart gridu, pri budúcej optimalizácii mesto. Pri argumentačnej fixácii komplexnej udržateľnosti ide o mieru kultúrnej identity objektu, mestského fragmentu, mesta. Pokiaľ sa neudrží energetický, všeobecne logistický systém mesta, bude ohrozená jeho kultúrna identita, pokiaľ nedokážeme udržať jeho kultúrny a sociálny status, pomôže nám akokoľvek dobre alternatívne fungujúca infraštruktúra?

Samostatný problém predstavuje otázka, či prvoplánová aplikácia univerzálnych, povedzme solárnych PV technológií nevedie k riziku generického výrazu mesta naprieč kultúrami. Autori hľadajú účinnú argumentáciu, že kultúrna substancia mesta má odolať budúcim technologickým nánosom. Pri dôslednom postupe tu máme možno nový princíp komplexnej regulácie. Budeme ho kodifikovať alebo používať ako opatrný modifikátor?

At the University of Zaragoza we have taught, for six years now, a subject on BIM called EGA 5. Despite the good results obtained so far, we believe in continuous improvement and thus this communication is based on the analysis of other international teaching experiences made with BIM. Among other things, we found that successful experiences are based on collaboration at various levels, and that the teaching of BIM should be started at the beginning of architectural education. Translating this analysis to our case, we have outlined possible strategies to apply in the future.

Pri iskopavanju 1999. godine provedenom oko ostataka pročelja crkve cistercitske opatije, čiji se ostaci nalaze u parku Opatovina u Topuskom, pronađena je veća količina kamenih komada arhitektonskih elemenata. Tijekom 2018. godine provedeno je dokumentiranje pronađenih arhitektonskih elemenata s pomoću 3D modeliranja. Razvojem tehnologije devedesetih godina 20. stoljeća 3D modeli počinju se primjenjivati u arheologiji i postaju sve popularniji. Danas u arheologiji razlikujemo dva pojma vezana uz 3D modeliranje: 3D digitalizaciju i 3D rekonstrukciju. Arhitektonski elementi iz Topuskog fotografirani su u svrhu izrade 3D modela temeljenog na fotografijama, što se smatra 3D digitalizacijom (modeli su napravljeni u programu Agisoft Photoscan). Tlocrti, bočni pogledi i presjeci „eksportirani“ su iz programa u obliku ortomozaika te su poslužili kao temelj za izradu nacrtne dokumentacije.

The research focuses on the geometric dimensional analysis of Valadier's Temple, trying to overcome a lack of archival sources in this regard. The Tempietto, commissioned by Pope Leo XII, was built in 1828, based on a project by Giuseppe Valadier. The artifact in fact takes its name from the architect. The church had to function as a meeting place, refuge and penance for sinners in order to atone for their sins. The survey methodology chosen for the digital reconstruction of the temple is photomodeling. The small size of the building, and the various contour lines that surround it, allow for a 360 degree photographic campaign
