The use of AC Drives in the industry applications has seen tremendous growth over the last 40 years with the rapid development of high-power semiconductors, power converter topology, new control strategies, and their implementation with the advanced digital processors. These have mode it possible to design drives with higher VA rating, with PWM and VC / DTC. However, this article present a real application in Kronospan S.A. Sebes Romania, where for the first time in Romania a medium voltage static converter was put in function with the load voltage of 6kV. The fast ascension of AC electric drives and static power converters was possible through a continuous and fabulous development of the performances of the semiconductor power devices during the last 50 years. The paper presents many methods to produce synthetic loading of rotating electric machines (induction, synchronous and DC) without load to the shaft using power converter. The required equipment is simple. Setting-up time is considerably reduced because it is not required to connect an external load to the machine's shaft. The range of r.m.s. current control is large beginning from no-load current to overload at rated speed and temperature, that the total losses in the machine can be identified by taking the average of the measured power over one cycle of synthetic loading of the machine.

Abstract: -  In this paper is analyzing the current operating conditions of one electric arc furnace (EAF) in
order to evaluate the best option to solve the energy consumption problem.
Experimental results show that EAFs represent a substantial source of electric disturbances, such as voltage fluctuations, flicker, harmonics, and unbalance between phases. Improvement of the energetic performances of an EAF imposes a careful technical and economical analysis.
The possible compensation solutions include passive filter, SVC (static var compensator) and STATCOM (static synchronous compensator).
Finally, the guideline for compensator selection and performance estimation is obtained.

ABSTRACT In the present paper is carried out a theoretical and experimental study of dual stator winding squirrel cage asynchronous generator (DSWA) behavior in the presence of saturation regime (non-sinusoidal) due to the variable speed operation. The main aims are the determination of the relations of calculating the equivalent parameters of the machine windings to optimal design using a Matlab code. Issue is limited to three phase range of double stator winding cage-induction generator of small sized powers, the most currently used in the small adjustable speed wind or hydro power plants. The tests were carried out using three-phase asynchronous generator having rated power of 6 [kVA].

Plate-type electrostatic precipitators are the main installations of separating particles from industries (especially for large gas flow) and must operate in its electromagnetic environment without interfering with the operation of other equipments. The power supplies have non-linear elements that cause distortions of the sources currents. The main objective of this work is to measure, simulate, and analyze, currents, voltages, total harmonic distortion, and powers from the sources that are used (thyristor- controlled reactor type) taking into account a news electric model, more close to reality, of the sections. It’s analyzed the modification of the current waves shape and total harmonic distortion in case of using shunt active filter.

To optimal control of the dust emission at the precipitators?? output it is important to know the dependency between electrical and technological parameters. For an industrial precipitator were measured the total active (P), reactive (Q) and apparent (S) powers of precipitator from one section power supplies, mass-flow rate of steam (M) at the output of boiler, and dust emission (E) at the output of precipitator. To establish a mathematical model of a dependent parameter on other independent parameters, it can use the least squares method, which establishes minimum sum of square deviations for a certain mathematical function. To modeling of above parameters it was used least squares method to evaluate the evolution of dust emission E (dependent variable) depending the other parameters (from electrical power supplies: the active P, reactive Q and apparent S powers, and from the boiler: mass-flow rate of steam M). In the paper is present power quality measurement analysis of three sections plate-type electrostatic precipitators supplied with traditional d.c. energization with analogical controlled anti parallel thyristors. The control of constant firing angle of thyristors is set depending on the secondary reference current. Analysis of the measure electrical parameters is done according with power quality standards EN 50160 (for voltage) and IEC 61000-3-4 (for current). The measures were made in two regimes: a long period of time and short period of time.

The paper establishes the necessary connections meant to spot the earth connections and short circuits between the conductors of a power line, using the DC bridges meant for measuring resistances between conductors at the ends of the power line. Since it is a relative method, it imposes an exact knowledge of the faulty power line setting. For values of the resistances measured between the conductors of the power line having over 1Ω at one end, the measurement will be carried out with a Wheatstone bridge, and for values below 1Ω with a Thomson bridge. In order to accurately determine the place of the fault, it measured the distances from the end of the line up to the fault and then we performed a correction calculation for this distance.

Experimental data collected from different plate-type electrostatic precipitators used in a thermoelectric power plant has been analyzed. The following parameters were considered: the collection efficiency, average migration velocity of dust particles, velocity distribution of the gas in the input and output channels of precipitators. The average migration velocity of dust particles can be estimated using various mathematical models, and the gas velocity can be computed using the velocity distributions from the input channels of the precipitators. The traveling time of dust particles between the electrodes is smaller than the traveling time along the precipitator sections.

This paper presents generic model of hybrid power system consisting in a combined solution one wind turbine with asynchronous generator and on hydro generator with synchronous machine. This technology was developed by to reduce the cost of supplying electricity in remote communities. The optimal wind penetration (installed wind capacity/peak electrical demand) for this system depends on the site availability of hydro energy and available wind resource. The optimal solution is evaluated first using HOMER – special design software for optimizing cost exploitation for a hybrid power systems. For the optimum solution we analyze the system by means of simulation in order to present the system behavior during normal operation.

The purpose of this paper is to develop and provide web-based system for the handling and control of remote devices via the Internet. Remote devices are currently the industry or mobile robots [13]. For future product development machine in the factory will be included in the system. This article also discusses the current use of virtual reality tools in the fields of science and engineering education. One programming tool in particular, virtual reality modeling language (VRML) is presented in the light of its applications and capabilities in the development of computer visualization tool for education. One contribution of this paper is to present the software tools and examples that can encourage educators to develop a virtual reality model to improve teaching in their discipline. [12] This paper aims to introduce a software platform, called VALIP where users can build, share, and manipulate 3D content in cooperation with the interaction processes in a 3D context, while participating hardware and software devices can be physical and / or logical distributed and connected together via the Internet.
