Collection Efficiency

The cyclone-type separator with swirling baffle and bottom take off of clean gas is a patented technique for separating solid particles from gases. Main relative dimensions of the separator are the same as given by Stairmand [C.J. Stairmand, The design and performance of cyclone separators, Trans. Inst. Chem. Eng. 29 (1951), 356–383] for the high efficiency cyclone. The principal part of the construction is the cylinder-shape swirling baffle with the flow gaps cut on its surface. The article presents the theoretical model of the new construction of cyclone-type separator with swirling baffle and bottom take off of clean gas. Calculational model to predict the collection efficiency was based on Leith and Licht cyclone calculational method [D. Leith, W. Cyclone is the most commonly used device to separate dust particles from gas and dust flow. The performance of cyclone separator can be measured in terms of collection efficiency and pressure drop. Parameters like Inlet Flow velocity, the particle size distribution in feed, dimensions of inlet and outlet ducts and cyclone affects the performance of cyclone significantly. Various Mathematical models used for calculation of cut off diameter of separator, flow rate, target efficiency and no. of vortex inside the cyclone to design and study to check the performance of existing cyclone separator. Also new dimensions can be design with help of models. Here, in this study the efficiency achieved with Lapple model cumulatively 86.47%.

An accurate computation of the collection efficiency due to recombination has a capital importance in order to perform high-precision dose measurements with ionization chambers. The two-voltage method, developed to compute charge collection efficiency in gas chambers, cannot be directly applied to liquid-filled ionization chambers (LICs) due to the ionized charge strong dependence on the collection electric field, which is caused by initial recombination. It is shown that in order to apply the two-voltage method to parallel-plate LICs it is necessary to introduce explicitly the slope of the ionization charge yield with respect to the polarization voltage applied in the chamber. A three-voltage method is also proposed to avoid the introduction of the slope parameter. That method allows decoupling initial and general recombination. It leads to a nonlinear system of equations which can be solved using numerical methods.
