Neste artigo me debruçarei sobre alguns conceitos e noções forjados com a finalidade de definir grupamentos solidários de base parental, dentro e fora do antropologia do parentesco, no intuito de examinar sua pertinência ao meu próprio material de campo no sertão pernambucano, em consonância com as diferentes abrangências a que alude ali o termo família, bem como aos processos de familiarização e desfamiliarização que ocorrem no interior e para além do campo estrito da família e do parentesco. A flexibilidade e indeterminação dos vínculos cognáticos e a extensão metafórica do parentesco sobre outros campos de relações impõem desafios analíticos, por vezes implícitos nos conceitos mais ou menos consagrados na antropologia. Résumé: Si l’un des fondements de la démocratie représentative est la séparation de la politique des intérêts familiaux, cet idéal est souvent compromis. Dans cet article, nous réfléchirons à la manière dont les rapports et les conceptions de la famille et de la politique s’entremêlent à Floresta, une municipalité de la province de Pernambouc, située au Sertão, une région administrative à l’intérieur du Nordeste brésilien. Dans certaines circonstances, famille et politique sont synonymes et ne se constituent jamais en domaines autonomes au niveau des actions et des idées des familles implantées depuis longtemps dans la région. Nous analyserons d’abord les significations et les catégories locales de famille. Ensuite, nous décrirons trois contextes de crise pour démontrer diverses formes d’enchevêtrements inextricables entre le sang et la politique. In this article, which is based on ethnography collected in Floresta, a municipality located in Pernambuco, Northeast Brazil, we reflect on the manner in which notions of family and politics become at once synonymous in some circumstances. In this context, we suggest, politics and kinship cannot be conceptualised as autonomous domains. Through an exploration of family categories, we identify three circumstances of crisis in which blood and politics are inextricably linked.

Despite the seeming impossibility of attaining a pure form of democracy, one of democracy’s cherished aims is to purify the realm of governance from family interests. In this article, which is based on ethnography collected in Floresta, a municipality located in Pernambuco, Northeast Brazil, we reflect on the manner in which notions of family and politics become at once synonymous in some circumstances. Resumo Neste artigo me debruçarei sobre alguns conceitos e noções forjados com a finalidade de definir grupamentos solidários de base parental, dentro e fora do antropologia do parentesco, no intuito de examinar sua pertinência ao meu próprio material de campo no sertão pernambucano, em consonância com as diferentes abrangências a que alude ali o termo família, bem como aos processos de familiarização e desfamiliarização que ocorrem no interior e para além do campo estrito da família e do parentesco. A flexibilidade e indeterminação dos vínculos cognáticos e a extensão metafórica do parentesco sobre outros campos de relações impõem desafios analíticos, por vezes implícitos nos conceitos mais ou menos consagrados na antropologia. Primeiramente, examino diferentes acepções da noção de casa, de modo a confrontar sentidos nativos e analíticos a ela atribuídos. Esse exercício se desdobra no questionamento sobre os limites da correspondência entre algumas categorias sertanejas de parentesco e os termos da oposição entre parentesco biológico e social, que fundamenta, segundo Schneider, os estudos antropológicos do parentesco. No ensejo de introduzir nesse debate outras distinções não de imediato subsumidas àquela dicotomia, recorro ao conceito deleuziano de " virtual-real " como instrumento analítico que permite elucidar distinções realizadas pelos próprios sertanejos com respeito ao parentesco e à família. This paper focuses on brigas de famlia (lit. family fights) in the sertao (backlands) of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, commonly known as blood feuds. By avoiding a description of a vengeance system as a whole and describing how these
struggles are experienced by their participants and in the communities in which they take place, this paper aims to show that, while kinship relations are very important in these processes, other kinds of relationships, such as friendship and personal loyalty, also play an important and necessary role.
I first distinguish the native categories of quest¼o (lit. issue) and intriga (lit.intrigue) in order to underscore two moments or fundamental states of relationships, aggression and adjustment respectively, between the sides that take part in them. Subsequently, I analyse the different local meanings of family and
friendship. This analysis reveals that these conflicts follow unpredictable courses. Particular relationships made, recognized, and presumed by those involved are the only nexus among different episodes of the fights.
The elucidation of these native concepts interfereswith the approach to feuding processes proposed in this article. It also problematizes the adoption of purely egocentric or socio-centred perspectives for the analysis of pertinent social units of
private and public lives in the social field here in focus.

attention to the electoral bases. Our aim is to verify the ways in
which the vote of an individual or a group is obtained for this
or that candidate; to investigate the machinations that direct their
votes or their efforts to a certain politician, or vote-getter, in
exchange for favors, when it is known that electoral practices are
full of betrayals and that promises made most often go unfulfilled;
and to examine the underpinnings of this interchange of votes
and favors. An ethnography of municipal elections reveals that the
resources placed at the disposition of the candidates are not exclusively
the ones designated for the municipality by the national and
state governments. The resources are, for the most part, generated
locally by the candidates themselves

R E S U M O Este artigo explora diferentes dinâmicas de parentesco e família em correlação a formas de deslocamento e alternância de moradia, consolidadas nos universos sociais do sertão de Pernambuco e do meio-norte do Mato Grosso. O propósito é mostrar, com o apoio de dados etnográfi cos, que os signifi cados, funções e abrangência atribuídos à família estendem-se ou restringem-se, multiplicam-se ou deslocam-se ao longo das trajetórias das pessoas, e essa maleabilidade é testemunha de sua pertinência e vitalidade nos planos das ideias, da moral, dos sentimentos, bem como das relações e das práticas. A B S T R A C T This article explores different dynamics of kinship and family correlating them with consolidated practices of displacement and housing alternation encompassing the social universes of the Pernambuco's countryside and Mid-North Mato Grosso. From ethnographic data, it intend to show that the meanings, functions, and scope assigned to family can be extended or restricted, multiplied or displaced throughout people's trajectories, and that this malleability witnesses the relevance and vigor of family within ideas, morals, feelings as well as within the relationships and practices.
