Computer Assisted Audit Tools and Techniques (CAATTs) are not new for auditors, and it needs to be adopted to gain the audit efficiency and effectiveness especially in a current era of technology. This paper examined the implementation of CAATTs by internal auditors in the public sector. Accordingly, this research reports the results from 12 interviews made with internal audit departments in public sector in both federal and state level in Malaysia. This research found that the implementation of CAATTs by internal auditors in public sector is still low due to lack of expertise, high implementation and maintenance cost, limited access of auditee’s data, and most of them prefer to conduct the audit manually. Furthermore, it is not mandatory for them to use CAATTs. The evidence is a contrast with the encouragement made by the government to improve the IT usage in public sector. The results implied that training for future auditors in CAATTs to ensure the successful implementation is ...

This study was motivated by the increasing progress in information technology which proposed to re-examine the AIS course in order to meet the expectations and requirements of the profession. Three hundred and forty (340) questionnaires were sent to three different groups of companies namely public accounting firms, industry and commerce, and banking and finance. Results from the mean analysis showed that practitioners in Malaysia perceived all AIS topics listed as important. However, results from ANOVA analysis indicated that .five ( 5) topics were perceived significantly different among the three groups of practitioners. The five topics are general concept of...

As organizations operate in a highly competitive environment, thus the need for an effective Information System (IS) is inevitable, because IS has the potentials to transform business positively as well as enhancing organizational performance. Many academic researchers have called on the investigation for the role of AIS on the effectiveness of organizations more especially the banking sector. In view of these, this paper attempts to study the influence of system usage and AIS sophistication on AIS effectiveness. Review of existing literature indicated banks in Nigeria are faced with persistent system failure. However, limited attention has been given regarding the issues. Conceptual evidence from the literature reviewed indicated that both system usage and AIS sophistication have a significant relationship with AIS effectiveness. Therefore, this paper develops a conceptual framework for determining AIS effectiveness in Nigerian banking sector with the aim of understanding and provi...

Research on the strategic Information Systems (IS) planning is typically concentrated on large firms. However, the outcomes of this research may not be sufficient to adequately apply to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Responding to the limited body of work in SMEs with respect to strategic IS planning, this research aims to fill the gap in the body of literature. Having limited resources available, financially and technically, strategic IS planning is getting more crucial for SMEs. Prior work suggests that a high level of internal competencies such as IT leadership by the owner or the top management of the firm are important for progressive IT development to take place in SMEs. Having said that IS is getting paramount for firm’s survival to optimize IS effectively, it is incumbent to investigate the factors influencing strategic IS planning amongst the SMEs. This study contributes to research and practice by providing indepth insights into the IS planning processes in SMEs with...

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of environmental turbulence on firm performance of listed companies in Jordan.  A conceptual model is proposed in this paper where firm performance is expected to be influenced by a two-dimensional environmental turbulence factor (technological turbulence and market turbulence) with a moderating factor of internal control system. Proposed Method: A questionnaire survey would be administered to 253 listed companies in Amman stock Exchange and analysis could be done with Partial Least Square (PLS) for testing the hypotheses of the study that firm performance is being influenced by environmental turbulence with a moderating effect of internal control system. Expected Results: It expected that when this proposed conceptual model is used with empirical data, the result of the research will provide a good understanding of the influence of the two environmental turbulence factors (technology and market) on firm performance of ...
