The situation of nursing education in Latin America and the Caribbean towards universal health2017 •
Objective: to assess the situation of nursing education and to analyze the extent to which baccalaureate level nursing education programs in Latin America and the Caribbean are preparing graduates to contribute to the achievement of Universal Health. Method: quantitative, descriptive/ exploratory, cross-sectional study carried out in 25 countries. Results: a total of 246 nursing schools participated in the study. Faculty with doctoral level degrees totaled 31.3%, without Brazil this is reduced to 8.3%. The ratio of clinical experiences in primary health care services to hospital-based services was 0.63, indicating that students receive more clinical experiences in hospital settings. The results suggested a need for improvement in internet access; information technology; accessibility for the disabled; program, faculty and student evaluation; and teaching/ learning methods. Conclusion: there is heterogeneity in nursing education in Latin America and the Caribbean. The nursing curricula generally includes the principles and values of Universal Health and primary health care, as well as those principles underpinning transformative education modalities such as critical and complex thinking development, problem-solving, evidence-based clinical decision-making, and lifelong learning. However, there is a need to promote a paradigm shift in nursing education to include more training in primary health care.

Origins of Contemporary Philosophy - Studies on Philosophy of Mathematic2024 •
Identifying the birth of contemporary philosophy involves critically reviewing ideas that were widely disseminated at the beginning of analytic philosophy and phenomenology. In both cases, rigorous historiography has been replaced by “creation myths” that, although relevant to determining the identity that each of the currents attributes to itself, ignore a web of complex systematic and historical relationships. This is the scope of the book Origins of Contemporary Philosophy: Studies on the Philosophy of Mathematics, published here by “Apolodoro Virtual Edições” as a special issue of the series “Rationality, Intentionality and Semantics,” which brings together a presentation of the research group “Origins of Contemporary Philosophy” (GPOFC/PUC-SP) by Prof. Dr. Evandro O. Brito (UNICENTRO) and three papers resulting from research carried out by the German researcher Prof. Dr. Julia Franke-Reddig (University of Geneva/University of Siegen) and the Brazilian researchers Prof. M.e. Ernesto Maria Giusti (UNICENTRO) and Prof. Dr. Arthur Heller Britto (Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo).
Antimicrobial Stewardship & Healthcare Epidemiology
World Health Organization AWaRe framework for antibiotic stewardship: Where are we now and where do we need to go? An expert viewpointThe AWaRe classification categorizes antibiotics and is a tool for antimicrobial stewardship. To combat antimicrobial resistance, prescribers must adhere to the AWaRe framework, which promotes the rational use of antibiotics. Therefore, increasing political will, dedicating resources, building capacity, and improving awareness and sensitization campaigns may promote adherence to the framework.
Using examples of intercultural interaction from different disciplines such as anthropology, communication, psychology, marketing, management, and applied linguistics, the authors of this book have managed to present an exciting exploration of the theme of ‘becoming intercultural’ for both academic and non-academic readers. The main purpose of this book is to develop a multidisciplinary approach which brings insights from applied linguistics, pragmatics, and discourse analysis to the analysis of intercultural behaviours in interactions. However, the book comes with a distinct focus on intercultural, rather than interaction. It consists of four parts: Conceptualizing Intercultural Interaction (Chapters 2–7), Promoting Competence in Intercultural Interaction (Chapters 8 and 9), Researching Intercultural Interaction (Chapters 10 and 11), and Resources (Chapter 11).
