ABSTRACT Poetry and music are two most important parts of a musical work with lyrics. And yet it is considerably difficult to find studies which examines them from the perspective of both music and literature. There are many different research methods for both disciplines. In a study that assesses music and literature together, selected methodology should be the one that provide, for both disciplines, a common ground upon which the results can be based. In this study, we plan to examine how the lyrics-as a living component-plays a role during the process of transformation from a text to a musical composition. Structuralism, which gives an opportunity to have a deeper meaning of texts, will be used in the research. In terms of music, it is aimed to determine the numerical values of the musical works' tempos. By using the results of this measurement, a comparison will be made and the role of the lyrics in the body of a musical piece will be shown.

Metaforik Anlatımlarla Bezenmiş Bir Müziğin Dili Ney'i Anlatır?.pdf2016 •
Fulya Soylu Bağçeci, N. Oya Levendoğlu ve Cenk Güray’ın birlikte yazdıkları bölüm “Metaforik Anlatımlarla Bezenmiş Bir Müziğin Dili Ney’i Anlatır?” adını taşıyor.

We gladly present to you the first (Spring) issue of Rast Musicology Review of 2014 after arduous and meticulous work. We are, as the academic staff of the Performance and Research Center for Ottoman Era Music (OMAR) of Istanbul University, acting as editors for this issue of Rast Musicology Review that, since its foundation, has been adding new perspectives to the musicology research. We believe that these enterprisesthat bring a breath of fresh air to the musicology research will be of significant service throughout the world of musicology. We would like to briefly mention the contents of this issue publicated in academic cooperation with the Performance and Research Center for Ottoman Era Music(OMAR) of Istanbul University. Prof. Nilgün Doğrusöz and Asst. Prof. Esra Karaol in “Mısırlı Ahmet Technique And Its Performance Analysis On The Clay Darbuka”, methodize this particular technique through the composition analyses with the help of special symbols defining the strokes made on the instrument. Asst. Prof. Fikri Soysal and Mustafa Uğurlu Aslan have studied on the Hâfız Abdülbâkî’s lyrics journal written in 1774, a handwritten manuscript containing lyrics to 328 musical pieces and a makam index on an illuminated zahriyepage and introduce it to the field of musicology. Teaching Asst. Bilen Işıktaş in his study “From (Non)Enlightenment To Commodity”: On the Relationship Between Individual and Music During the Enlightenment, discusses the relationship between individual and music in terms of culture industry. In her study “Approachment of Arthur Schopenhauer and Friedrich Neitzsche to Programme Music”, the young musicology researcher Duygu Tardü focuses on the discussions between the two philosophers regarding programme music in the romantic period. Asst. Prof. Erhan Özden who has a number of studies on the history of Turkish music education focuses in his study “The Musical Training In Ottoman Educational System -I-”, on the status of the musical training in Ottoman educational system established in the second half of 19th centuryin thelight of the official documents of the time. Researcher Hüseyin Aktaş, in his study that could be deservedly considered as the very first in its field, tackles the issue of “Terminological Problems of Harezm Makam Music in the 20th Century”. The musicologist Okan Murat Öztürk, who is also one of the most prominent bağlama players of Türkiye, discusses in his study the structure called Makam, Avaze, Şube ve Terkib: The Representation of Perception of Pythagorean Harmony / Music of the Spheresin Ottoman Musical Doctrines and analyses the concepts of “makam”, “avaze”, “şube” and “terkib” and the said structurewith the help of ancient transcripts. Through these analyses, he points out that these concepts and the principle of “harmony of the spheres” within the Pythagorean tradition are,in fact, connected. One of the most interesting articles in this issue is authored by Asst. Prof. Rohat Cebe in which he informs us about the current Law no. 5846 on Intellectual and Artistic Works and explores its significance from the viewpoint of intellectuals and artists. Research Asst. Sami Dural, in his study, studies the “Uzzal Pishrev” that is notated by Ali Ufkî Bey, Cantemir and Kevserî in their successive periods and performes every notation separately which enables us to make a comparison in terms of transmission, perception and performance of Turkish Music tradition. Hoping that 2014 Spring issuewill be beneficial for the world of musicology, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the authors and referees for their contributions and İstanbul University for undertaking the printing of this issue. Anadolu tasavvuf hayatının en büyük siması Mevlânâ Celâleddîn-i Rûmî’ye nispet edilen Mevlevî Tarîkatı’na mahsus tasavvuf mûsıkîne “Mevlevî Mûsıkîsi” denmiştir. Mystical music which belongs to the Mawlawiyya Order ascribed to Mawlana Jalal al-Din Rumi, the prominent figure of the sufi life in Anatolia, is called “Mevlevi Musikisi”. This music constitutes the most important and the vast branch of the classical Sufi (Tekke) Music which is one of the two types of Turkish religious music: Mosque and Tekke Music. Mawlana and Mawlawiyya played an important role in the rise and de-velopment of the Classical Tuskish Music, as well as of the Religious Mu-sic. Mawlana has kindly treated all artists and the musicians at his time; mentioned the subject of music very often in his works and always appre-ciated the musicians very much. That’s why music has become one of the important elements of the Mawlawiyya and as far as the level of compose and art is concerned, the Mawlawi Rites have become the form of religi-ous music which could perform its rules naturally without needing the he-ads of dhikr managing the dhikr. In addition to this, it has gained a special artistic aspect in the course of time and it became worthy to be the composer and performer of Mawlawi Rite in the environment of arts. When we look at our music history, we realize that almost all of our composers have taken spiritual training and passed religious and spiritual education to people and societies by means of their works. The Mawlawikhanas were the institutions of education in which this good manners and spiritual foundation were taught. We have made this interview with Hafız Ahmet Çalışır, a contemporary composer of Mawlawi Rite who was brought up in Konya where there is Mawlana Dergah in order to share the feelings, thoughts and comments of a composer with the readers.
