This paper provides a brief background on the Lesson Study approach and its variant forms such as Modified Lesson Study, Learning Study and Virtual Experiential Learning Study. In addition, the authors have included a brief discussion about information and communication technology (ICT) and its impact in both education and professional training that has given rise to the development of the Quasi-Lesson Study (QLS). The main ICT contribution highlighted in this paper is the YouTube video-sharing service that can be used in the training of teachers and/or allied educators in both mainstream and special schools as well as educational therapists working in private learning centers/remedial learning clinics in Singapore and Malaysia today. YouTube sharing is used at various phases in the QLS cycle to help a teacher, allied educator or educational therapist become better equipped with not only the know-what (i.e., content knowledge and skills), but also the know-how (i.e., techniques and strategies) when working with students with special needs. How YouTubeTM sharing can help in overcoming the constraints of coordinating a lesson observation and other challenges in traditional Lesson Study, such as the awkwardness of being observed, is also discussed. More professional training ideas may thus spin off from the QLS concept, as others may be inspired to transcend the limits of traditional Lesson Study through the QLS approach.

The Untold Stories Behind the Preparation of Video Lessons: A PhenomenologyThis study determined the different problems encountered, and technical assistance given to the elementary grade English teachers in preparing video lessons at Sero Central School during the school year 2021-2022. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: What are the problems encountered by the teacher during the preparation of Video Lessons in terms of instruction; assessment; and assignment? What technical assistance in preparing video lessons is received by the teachers from the Cotabato City Division? Based on the findings, what training design about video lesson preparation can be made? This qualitative study utilized thematic analysis in the interpretation of data. Results showed that the encountered challenges of the elementary grade English teachers in preparing video lessons when giving instructions were the restriction in elaborating the lesson because of the readymade scripts as well as the limited time duration of the video lessons. The next problems encountered by the elementary grade teachers in preparing video lessons in English when giving assessment were the following: lack of adequate time allotted in each activity, some directions made were ambiguous with less emphasis, and the activities failed to measure the critical thinking skills of the learners. Lastly, there are two problems that emerged in preparing video lessons in English in terms of giving assignment. First that the assignments do not conform to the lessons tackled, and there are inconsistencies of the assignments reflected in the modules and video lesson. The provided technical assistance from the Cotabato City division to the elementary grade teachers in preparing video lesson were lecture and orientation about video editing with no actual workshop for the teachers. On the other hand, the division also provided some equipment in making video lessons.

Short-Term Strategy for Developing School-Based Lesson Study towards Learning Community at Special Education in IndonesiaABSTRACT: The implementation of Lesson Study provides a new perspective in the context of pedagogy in schools among teachers. This article proposes a short-term strategy that can be implemented in developing School-Based Lesson Study at school towards the establishment of learning community at Special Education. In School-Based Lesson Study, the teachers from various backgrounds have done Lesson Study activities together regardless the subjects they teach. The strategy that can be implemented by the school in the first year is to train the core staffs, to clarify the vision on child education, to have similar perception of teachers, and to create the system of lesson activities. The second and the third year is the time for evaluating the progress of the implementation of School-Based Lesson Study at Special Education based on certain characters, namely the pupils lesson and study from each other, and the teachers learn from each other through meeting in order to improve their teach...
This article described an innovative approach of integrating video analysis into personnel preparation to bridge the gap between theory and prac- tice in a teacher certification program for teacher candidates specializing in learning disabilities (LD). First, the authors summarized the varied, yet interrelated, purposes of utilizing video in teacher education. Second, they described the use of video in the learning disabilities program within Hunter College’s School of Education, detailing specific assignments that promote a deeper understanding of teaching and learning. Third, they of- fered suggestions for teacher educators who would like to integrate video analysis into their existing programs. Finally, they evaluated the benefits and limitations for using video analysis in the professional development of in-service teachers of students with learning disabilities.

Effect of video assisted teaching (VAT) on improving primary teacher's knowledge regarding learning disabilities: An Indian perspective2018 •
Abstract Objectives:- Formal learning in classroom is a part and parcel of current educational system. Teachers are in a unique position to identify the children's lacunaes in the developmental learning processes. Current Study was done to assess the pre interventional knowledge of primary school teachers regarding selected learning disabilities among primary school children, evaluate the effect of Video Assisted Teaching (VAT) and to find the association between knowledge scores and selected socio-demographic variables. Method:- Pre-experimental one group Pre test-post test design was used among 60 primary school teachers selected through convenient sampling. Researcher developed structured questionnaire was administered after obtaining informed consent. Reliability and validity were established. One hour group session-Video assisted teaching (VAT) was administered for 7 days consecutive days. Theoretical and practical aspects of selected learning disabilities and its management measures were discussed. data were assessed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results:-Majority 33 (55%) of primary school teachers had average knowledge followed by 22 (36.6%) had poor knowledge and 5 (8.3%) had good level of knowledge score. There was a statistically significant difference in the knowledge score before and after the intervention at p < 0.01. Conclusion:- Teachers play a paramount role in identifying and managing learning disabilities. A well informed teacher can transform these disabilities into possibilities, which can bring out the best in the child. Modified Lesson Study as a Formative Evaluation Approach of the Teaching Practicum of Trainee Special Education Teachers2013 •
Among the several types of teaching technologies here the investigators aimed at the effects of`Video Assisted Instruction' in enhancing the teaching-learning process of the children with learning difficulty in the field of arithmetic. Few studies in the late 90s revealed that the positive contribution of VAI played the vital role in improving their achievement at the primary level. Here the investigators attempted to find out the impact and importance of VAI towards education and achievement of the L.D children in arithmetic. This research focus on study the significant difference if any in the achievement of LD children learnt fundamental mathematical concepts through VAI strategy with regard to variation of their background variables considered for the study.

Impact of Video on Learning in Students with Autism in Malaysia: Future Prospects2013 •
ABSTRACT Use of video in Malaysia is seen as having a bright future because technology development is expanding even more now. Thirty articles related to use of video on students with autism have been investigated. Only 12 articles have been selected as appropriate for use as references for this study. This article looks at the future prospects of impact of video on learning of students with autism in Malaysia. The focus of this study is the use of video by experts, identifying behavior of students with autism in their use of video and determining the limitations of video and ways to overcome them. This study uses the Fuzzy Delphi approach to achieve consensus of experts on the focus of study. The findings show that usage of video is extremely effective on students with autism besides shaping the behavior desired. Although video has its limitations, these can be overcome in various ways as suggested by the experts and researchers.
This case study of a preschool boy with Asperger’s syndrome focuses on the use of video instruction for the purpose of teaching skills required for participation in classroom activities. After the classroom teacher identified four skill areas needing improvement (circle time, sharing, choosing centers, and singing), short video clips of instructions and role plays were created using a digital camera. The clips were viewed by the subject on a daily basis for eight weeks prior to selected activities. To document the effect of using the video instruction, observation notes were collected and a teacher survey was completed. Information gleaned from the observations and the survey revealed that the student responded positively to the video instruction, increasing the variety of activities he participated in.
