Remote Sensing2000 •
Remote Sensing is a two year project resulting in a split screen digital video tracing the topographies of the global sex trade in relation to satellite media and other geographic information technologies that visualise globality. The video unravels the multi-layered meaning of a geography in which the mobility and migration of women is linked to illicit economies and the implementation of new technologies. Voluntarily or not, since the 90ies women are displaced in great numbers from Manila to Nigeria, from Burma to Thailand, from Bulgaria to Europe: female bodies in the flow of global capitalism. Spiralling down from an orbital view captured by image satellites the video-essay takes an earthly perspective on the trafficking of women and cross-border transactions shot in Southeast Asia and on the Czech-German border.
Applied Corpus Linguistics
Bednarek, M. & C. Bray (2023) Trialling corpus search techniques for identifying person-first and identity-first language2023 •
This short ‘methods’ article compares results for six different corpus search techniques for identifying person-first language (e.g. person/people with obesity, person/people with mental illness) and identity-first language (e.g. obese person/people, mentally ill person/people) in a corpus. This distinction is relevant across a range of health contexts, including but not limited to obesity, diabetes, or mental illness. Consequently, there is considerable interest in corpus linguistics and beyond in identifying the frequency of such language in large corpora. However, there is no consensus regarding the specific corpus search techniques to be used for this purpose. This article therefore offers a relevant methodological contribution, based on a trial of six different search techniques. Results from each technique are compared with respect to four different parameters: raw frequency, proportional usage, number of types identified (a proxy for ‘recall’) and false positives (a proxy for ‘precision’). This comparison in turn provides a basis for recommendations for future corpus linguistic studies of person- and identity-first language. The corpus that we use for this trial is a 16.4 million word corpus with newspaper articles containing the word obesity or obese. However, the findings should be relevant to other kinds of identity where similar syntactic structures are at play for expressing identity-first and person-first language.

Intercultural missional leadership: Theological foundation and biblical narratives2019 •
This article explores the concept and practice of the missional leadership from three perspectives: the biblical worldview, cultural mandate and narratives of biblical examples. The research explores two elements of missional leadership, which is comparable to the leadership theory as it delves into the concept of ‘missional’. This research also unearths understanding the relationship between missional leadership in intercultural environments to the biblical worldview that is based on biblical theology. Furthermore, the exploration seeks to find a relationship between the intercultural missional leadership and the cultural mandate endowed by the triune God to mankind as God’s image. In addition, the research also carefully looks into the following biblical models that exemplify intercultural missional leadership: Moses, Jesus Christ and the apostle Paul. Narratives of the Bible show that God reveals his leadership through his providence to accomplish his goal according to his pleasi...
An interesting documentary that will help you to introduce British culture.
When destination management organizations introduce real destination management, they are the ones that become strategic bearers of planning, organization, implementation, monitoring and management. By establishing partnerships and cooperation in the destination, they bring in partners with regard to participation and financing, but also with regard to knowledge management at the tourism destinations.
