About the obvious relationship between the Irk Bitig and Qumalaq / Kumalak oracle.
This paper focuses on the role played by the MUNUS (.MEŠ) ŠU.GI within the Hittite KIN KIN oracle system. The analysis of several oracular operations is used to evaluate the presence of Old Women in KIN texts in order to understand in depth the practical aspects of these investigations. In addition, some features of the KIN such as its symbolic values, as well as Old Women's proper names, will be presented in light of new considerations deriving from an exhaustive study of this Hittite divination system.

"Since the 1970s, Bugis written literature has been usually classified into two categories, sureq (literature, belles lettres) and lontaraq (prose texts with a more practical orientation, often of a historiographic nature). Although most scholars accept this classification, the Bugis manuscript tradition does not support this dichotomy. In this article, the use of these terms, as well as the term toloq (usually translated as ‘heroic poem’) is analyzed based on the manuscript tradition. This analysis finds no support for the use of these terms for literary genres, but shows instead that they refer to manuscripts as physical objects and that their use to classify genres of literature is artificial. Key words: Bugis literature, literature genre, manuscripts, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, La Galigo, epics, traditional literature, classification Sejak tahun 1970-an sastera Bugis tertulis digolongkan ke dalam dua kategori, sureq, iaitu sastera indah dan lontaraq, prosa dengan ciri yang lebih berorientasi praktis, seringkali berupa tulisan sejarah.

Since the first edition of the Irk Bitig (Thomsen 1912), several scholars have worked on the analysis of the texts, primarily from a linguistic point of view. Some of the short stories in the omens are clear and easy to understand, but there are also many that are grammatically or semantically rather problematic. The meaning of the 27th omen is relatively clear and easy to analyse. In the translations so far, controversy has arisen over the precise meaning of only one word. Some translators have interpreted the Old Turkic verb ämsi-as a simulative form of the verb äm-'to suck / suckle', but in fact there are no other examples of such a deverbal verb formative. Although the linguistically verifiable verb ämsi-'to cure / medicate', derived from the noun äm 'medicine', was raised as a possibility, it was rejected as semantically unacceptable and incompatible with the text. In this article, I offer a new interpretation of the omen, and show that the previous interpretations were based on a premise (in the case of the sheep and the wolf, good and evil could only be manifested in the opposition of 'good sheep-bad wolf'), which was in fact induced by the cultural background of the interpreters, and which may not be taken for granted in the case of the old Turks.
This paper looks at how the lemma in Isaiah, Hosea, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, and Zephaniah are introduced. In the course of the study, i looked into the coherence between the message of the pesharim and the distinctive message of each pesher. A rather naive look at the Qumran materials, i'd say. hehe...

Recent research, based primarily on Indo-European and Niger-Kordofanian languages, has led to a set of assumptions about possible 'resolution rules', the rules which determine agreement with conjoined noun phrases. Data from the East Cushitic language Qafar appear to run counter to these assumptions in several respects. Our analysis shows that the patterns found in Qafar are in fact consistent with previous analyses. The apparent differences result from the following facts: conjoined expressions stand in the absolutive case; 'default' agreement occurs when the controller stands in the absolutive; the default form is the feminine singular, which is syncretic with one of the plural agreement forms.

Abstract. Motivated primarily by medical terminology applications, the prominent DL SHIQ has already been extended to a DL with complex role inclusion axioms of the form R◦ S⊑ R or S◦ R⊑ R, called RIQ, and the SHIQ tableau algorithm has been extended to handle such inclusions.
