The widespread use and proven profitability of technical trading rules in financial markets has long been a puzzle in academic finance. In this paper we show, using an agent-based model of an evolving stock market, that widespread technical trading can arise due to a multi-person prisoners' dilemma in which the inclusion of techinical trading rules to a single agent's repertoire of rules is a dominant strategy. The use of this dominant strategy by all traders in the market creates a symmetric Nash equilibrium in which wealth earned is lower and the volatility of prices is higher than in the hypothetical case in which all agents rely only on fundamental rules. Our explanation of this lower wealth and higher volatility is that the use of technical trading rules worsens the accuracy of the predictions of all agents' market forecasts by contributing to the reinforcement of price trends, augmenting volatility, and increasing the amount of noise in the market. Over the years, there has been an evolution of systemic thinking in agricultural innovation studies, culminating in the agricultural innovation systems perspective. In an attempt to synthesize and organize the existing literature, this chapter reviews the literature on agricultural innovation, with the threefold goal of 1) sketching the evolution of systemic approaches to agricultural innovation and unravelling the different interpretations; 2) assessing key factors for innovation system performance and demonstrating the use of system thinking in the facilitation of processes of agricultural innovation by means of innovation brokers and reflexive process monitoring; and 3) formulating an agenda for future research. The main conclusion is that the agricultural innovation systems perspective provides a comprehensive view on actors and factors that co-determine innovation, and in this sense allows understanding the complexity of agricultural innovation. However, its holism is also a pitfall as it allows for many interpretations, which complicates a clear focus of this research field and the building of cumulative evidence. Hence, more work needs to be done conceptually and empirically.

Una información aeronáutica eficiente es crucial si se quiere lograr un sistema de Gestión de Tráfico Aéreo (ATM) integrado e interfuncional, que permita a los proveedores de servicios de navegación aérea tratar de forma segura un mayor volumen de tránsito en el mismo espacio y lapso de tiempo. Iniciativas de la Comisión Europea como SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research) persiguen precisamente la sostenibilidad del transporte aéreo en Europa desde este punto de vista. Los objetivos son ambiciosos: hacia el año 2020 se espera triplicar la capacidad con relación a la situación actual, aumentar por un factor de 10 el nivel de seguridad, reducir en un 10% el impacto medioambiental por vuelo y disminuir a la mitad los costes de gestión del tránsito aéreo. Los responsables de la información aeronáutica en cada país son los denominados Servicios de Información Aeronáutica (AIS). Su cometido es garantizar el flujo de información aeronáutica necesaria para la seguridad operacional, la regularidad y la eficacia de la navegación aérea internacional. Para satisfacer los requisitos que emanan del concepto operacional de ATM mundial, los AIS deberán integrarse en un concepto más amplio de Gestión de la Información Aeronáutica (AIM), que hace uso de un método diferente para la provisión y la gestión dada su naturaleza centrada en los datos, a diferencia de la naturaleza de AIS, centrada tradicionalmente en el producto (como las actuales cartas aeronáuticas en papel). Está en marcha un plan de trabajo mundial que pretende mejorar la situación actual dando respuesta a la necesidad de una interoperabilidad mundial. Denominado genéricamente transición de AIS a AIM, está liderado por la Organización de Aviación Civil Internacional (OACI), encargada de la tutela y coordinación con los estados para evitar evoluciones divergentes en el futuro. El avance de la iniciativa está obligando a las diferentes organizaciones a replantearse la forma en la que, hasta el momento, se ha publicado y difundido el contenido de las Publicaciones de Información Aeronáutica (AIP) en red. En esta comunicación se propone presentar la visión que, conjuntamente, están poniendo en práctica la División de Información Aeronáutica de Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (Aena) y la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) para conseguir que la difusión de datos aeronáuticos en España pueda aprovechar los beneficios que supondrá la puesta en marcha de un modelo mundial de intercambio de datos aeronáuticos normalizados, que permita disponer de productos tanto gráficos como textuales basados en una misma definición subyacente estándar de datos elementales georreferenciados. Se persigue además que estas líneas de trabajo sean referentes para el resto de las organizaciones AIS europeas. Para ello se descubrirán las particularidades de la información aeronáutica y la estructura normalizada que poseen las actuales AIP, las especificaciones de publicación de datos aeronáuticos en red anteriores a la transición AIS-AIM, el estado de la iniciativa OACI y finalmente las acciones que se están llevando a cabo desde el AIS-España para conseguir publicar una información aeronáutica evolucionada y con la que se puedan abordar los nuevos requisitos de la gestión eficiente del ATM.

One of the challenges in global educational reform is a need to come out with a curriculum that is capable of delivering 21 st century knowledge to the students in all areas of studies of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). This is to ensure that competent graduates are produced from HEIs. Undoubtedly, the Iraq post-wars and economic sanctions have led to poor states of technology and education in the country. As part of the Iraqi accounting education, accounting information system (AIS) course content has been affected by the Iraqi circumstances, since the global trend demands a technology-driven course. This results in Iraq lagging behind compared to other countries, even amongst developing countries. Thus, there is a need to determine the factors that need to be considered while developing an AIS course in Iraq in order to make it at on par with international standards. To assist in this process this paper proposes a conceptual framework which highlights AIS course content that need to be considered in Iraq.

Objectives: We aim to provide an understanding of the psychological sequela of androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS) in phenotypic females in order to begin to inform psychosocial health care services.

Design: Eight adult women with AIS were recruited through the Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome Support Group-United Kingdom (AISSG-UK). Data was collected via two semi-structured interviews with each woman.

Methods: Transcripts were analysed using grounded theory and a conceptual model was developed which suggests a way of understanding the AIS distress experienced by the participants.

Results: The pivotal concept is a woman's fear of devaluation. This is connected to her level of adaptation and perception of having a compromised womanhood. These, in turn, are related to her medical management and involvement with others via a support group and in talking about AIS.

Conclusions: Participants showed a clear preference for open communication about their condition throughout the process of medical management. We recommend sensitive, pacing of information to allow young women and their families to make informed decisions about treatment and a realistic adaptation to life with AIS.

In response to the lack of systematic study of architectural practice, the Building Stories methodology propounds storytelling as a vehicle for studying active cases, i.e., projects that are in the process of being designed and built. The story format provides a dense, compact way to deal with and communicate the complex reality of a real-world project, while respecting the interrelated nature of events, people and circumstances that shape its conception. With an eye to establishing a valuable knowledge resource of and for the profession, the paper explores how stories can be stored, organized and accessed so as to turn the growing story repository into a convenient instrument for students, educators and practitioners.

The quality of the information provided is imperative to the success of the systems in an accounting information system. In this paper, the main issues that related to data quality in implementation of any accounting information systems is presented and discussed. A solution for the problems were suggested and discussed. A case study to address the important systems, stakeholders, and organizational factors that influence the data quality in accounting information systems’ implementation is being illustrated and discussed in this paper too.

Despite the initial abjections, crew members and vessel traffic service Staff use an automatic identification system in their activities. In the phase of the system implementation, inability to receive signals at scheduled times was raised and evidenced. This paper analyses the issues of the AIS availability on the basis of two polish base stations. The investigation has been conducted by the authors in 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2011. Availability has been studied from the standpoint of the quality of nada transmission channel. An attempt was made to assess the availability of the AIS service transmission channel. In this paper, the simple methodology for the assessment of AIS Service availability is proposed. To meet the objective of the research, recorded data derived from the AIS Base station Hel and Krynica Morska were used.

Abstract: The paper investigates the structure and functioning of the science and technology (S&T) system in India as it has evolved in the post-independence period (1947 onwards). The networks of entities involved in S&T actions, the paper argues, can be categorised, in terms of adopted approaches to agenda and priority setting and accounting for actions, into two streams. The origins and expansion of the two streams are traced. One, the ‘Elite’ stream (high profile and visibility linked to big industry), adopting what the paper has generically termed the ‘Nehruvian’ model of development, is shown to have emerged as a dominant network. Common use of shipboard AIS creates conditions for the use of a new kind of dynamic data in the situation of the risk of collision. AIS position report is a source of supplementary information derived from error leveraged radar measurement. However, in view of the results of the studies there are opinions with regard to inconsistent AIS dynamic data in the process of decision-making by the officer of the watch. By taking into consideration the recordings of the studies and technical specification of AIS it can be concluded that the results of inconsistent data have significant role in collision avoidance manoeuvring.

System Requirement Analysis (SRA) is also very helpful for collecting  overall information related to requirements. The Discrete Event Systems Specification (DEVS) formalism specifies a discrete event system in a hierarchical, modular form. This paper presents a web-services-based distributed simulation architecture for DEVS models, named as DEVSCluster-WS. DEVSCluster-WS is actually an enhanced version of DEVSCluster by employing the web services technology, thereby retaining the advantages of the non-hierarchical distributed simulation compared to the previous hierarchical distributed simulations. By employing the web services technologies, it describes models by WSDL and utilizes SOAP and XML for inter-node communication. Due to the standardized nature of the web service technology, DEVSCluster-WS can effectively be embedded in the Internet without adhering to specific vendors and languages. To show the effectiveness of DEVSCluster-WS, we realize it in Visual C++ and SOAPToolkit, and conduct a benchmark simulation for a large-scale logistics system. We compare the performance of DEVSCluster-WS with DEVSCluster-MPI, the MPI-based implementation of DEVSCluster. The performance result shows that the proposed architecture works correctly and could achieve tolerable performance.
