The use of machines designed for human samples in veterinary is still a common practice. In this project it was verified the efficiency of the portable device (Accutrend Plus, Roche Diagnostics) in swine biochemistry. The outdoor pig production system is located in Fazenda Água Limpa (FAL) from the University of Brasília. Tests for glucose, lactate, cholesterol and triglycerides were performed at the farm with the portable device. Total blood samples were obtained in EDTA(k 3), sodium fluorine, and clot activator tubes for the biochemical tests (Biochemistry Analyzer Bioplus, BIO-2000) in the Veterinary Clinical Pathology Laboratory of the University of Brasilia. A total of 12 piglets; eight barrows and four gilts, weight of 8.10 ± 18.30 kg and 45 ± 50 days of age. Statistical analyses adding normal distribution by Kolmogorv-Smimov and Shapiro-Wilk were performed. Tstudent test have not shown normality for triglycerides and lactate (p < 0,01). Therefore, the biochemistry portable device analyzer is unsuitable to an outdoor performance.

A Cadeia do Espinhaço é um complexo montanhoso que ocorre nos estados de Minas Gerais e Bahia. No coração da porção sul desta longa cadeia de montanhas encontra-se o Parque Nacional da Serra do Cipó, o qual engloba seis municípios de Minas Gerais. Entre 1998 e 2002 foram registradas 226 espécies de aves pertencentes a 43 famílias. A maioria das espécies pertence à família dos papa-capins (Emberizidae; 46 espécies), e à família dos papa-moscas (Tyrannidae; 45 espécies). Estima-se, entretanto, que a riqueza local possa chegar a mais de 240 espécies, o que é um número notável para uma região de Cerrado, levando-se em conta ainda que apenas uma fração menor do Parque foi pesquisada. Constam na lista 6 espécies endêmicas do Cerrado e 1 endêmica da Mata Atlântica. Três espécies são consideradas 'quase-ameaçadas' de extinção a nível regional: o urubu-rei Sarcoramphus papa, a bandoleta Cypsnagra hirundinacea, e o mineirinho Charitospiza eucosma. Discute-se a relação de algumas aves com certos ambientes particulares (lagoas, brejos, matas ciliares, cachoeiras e cânions, campos limpos, campos cerrados e campos rupestres).

In 2019 Brazil recorded the highest wildland fire occurrence South America has seenfor the last 15 years. Added to the Amazon, the Brazilian savanna (Cerrado) faces changes in fire regimes. Climatic changes and the recent weakening of environmental law enforcement are factors, but historic and large-scale trends and drivers of fire regimes must be analyzed. We discuss ecological and policy drivers of recent changes in fire regimes in the Cerrado, in order to highlight management strategies. The Cerrado has evolved with natural fires and anthropogenic fires are also common for millennia. In the past 50 years, wildfires tend to be concentrated in the late dry season and to occur every two / three years, causing serious damage in fire-sensitive vegetation. Apart from climatic variations, the drivers of wildfires are deforestation and fire suppression policies. Nearly half of the original vegetation of the Cerrado biome has disappeared largely due to agribusiness expansion. Fire is associated with deforestation in two ways: vegetation conversion to monocultures, and lack of fire management in the remaining native vegetation. Indeed, the attempts to exclude fires from this fire-prone ecosystem disrupted traditional fire management. Fire suppression policies lead to increased wildfire risks due to fuel load and the multiplication of sources of ignition (conflicts, roads). The recent advances in Integrated Fire Management in protected areas in the Cerrado are evident. However, the recent budget cuts by the Brazilian government in environmental management and research undermine the chances of decreasing occurrences of wildfires in this biodiversity hotspot.

International institutions and agencies from the Global North are no longer the sole initiators of development norms and best practices. The proliferation of exports and imports of social, economic and policy management models have called for a rethinking of South–South relations. To date, most studies have focused on the drivers and strategies of international initiatives made by emerging powers; none have analysed the impact of these initiatives on the receiving country’s institutions, and on the structures of international organisations. In this book, Carolina Milhorance examines the content, process and consequences of the internationalisation of Brazil’s rural public policy instruments. Brazil earned wide international recognition in the early 2000s for its agricultural modernisation and social policies; its increasing influence illustrated the specific political interests of coalitions that are embedded in domestic and international struggles. Drawing on extensive field research – including more than 280 interviews – conducted in Brazil, Mozambique, South Africa, Malawi, France and Italy, Milhorance analyses the effects of the internationalisation of Brazilian policy solutions on national and local political systems in recipient countries, highlighting specifically the case of Mozambique. Relying on a new theoretical approach to International Relations – one based on public policy analysis and international political sociology – she moves beyond a debate about conventional notions of international power.

UMA OBRA ESSENCIAL A TODOS AQUELES QUE QUEREM ENTENDER E APRENDER O NOVO CÓDIGO FLORESTAL BRASILEIRO (Lei Federal nº12.651, de 25 de maio de 2012), COM LEITURA FÁCIL E ILUSTRADA

Milhares de leitores que não dominam o linguajar jurídico e nem possuem formação na área de Direito sentem enormes dificuldades para interpretar todo o conjunto de normas legais existentes nos Códigos Florestais publicados até a presente data. Não podemos atribuir, exclusivamente, ao insucesso dos antigos códigos (1934 e 1965) o fato do cidadão comum não conhecer as normas ou interpretá-las equivocadamente, mas, podemos considerar esse fator como preponderante e imprescindível para o êxito de qualquer lei, principalmente uma lei como esta (Lei Federal nº 12.651, de 25 de maio de 2012) que abrange todo o território nacional e estabelece restrições/proibições na área ambiental.

Este livro propõe desmistificar e ensinar, de forma clara, objetiva e ilustrada, o Novo Código Florestal Brasileiro. Quebrando a regra usual de um prefaciador por obra, este livro buscou passar pelo crivo de personalidades importantes da área ambiental, conforme pode ser observado no item Prefaciadores.

Com o objetivo de auxiliar o leitor para melhor entender o novo Código Florestal - Lei nº 12.651/2012, sempre que for citado um diploma legal neste código teremos, logo em seguida, a discussão do mesmo.

Os artigos da Lei que foram vetados, são mencionados integralmente, para que o leitor tenha conhecimento do texto original vetado e das razões que geraram o referido veto.

Teremos um espaço reservado neste livro para tratar do Cadastro Ambiental Rural - CAR, do Programa de Recuperação Ambiental – PRA e do Programa Mais Ambiente.

Iremos aprender, também, onde e como se inscrever no CAR e como aderir ao PRA, como medir a área de preservação permanente e como calcular quantos módulos fiscais tem a sua propriedade.

The aquatic and semi-aquatic Heteroptera represent a group of insects with a multitude of shapes, being the result of adaptations to a broad niche variety. Heteroptera were collected in five streams (from 1st to 4th order) in the Pindaíba River Basin, in order to, with different in the habitat integrity: (1) correlate the species richness with the Habitat Integrity Index and water physical-chemical parameters; and (2) to determine which species are capable to serve as bioindicators. In each stream, linear transects of 100m were demarcated. 1,425 specimens from 10 families, 30 genera and 67 morphospecies were collected. Nitrate negatively affected Nepomorpha and temperature with Gerromorpha species richness. The matrix of environmental variables showed no influence on the distribution of species. Three species (Rhagovelia trailli (White, 1879), Rhagovelia sp.4 and Tenagobia incerta Lundblad, 1928) were considered to be indicators of pristine sites. The results indicate that Gerromorpha can be an important tool to assess environmental habitat integrity and enhance conservation actions of riparian forests.

RESuMO O objetivo deste trabalho é debater elementos do extrativismo no Cerrado norte-mineiro na perspectiva do Direito Agrário. Baseando-se na experiência de comunidades que fornecem frutos nativos deste rico bioma à Cooperativa dos Agricultores Familiares e Agroextrativistas Grande Sertão Ltda. (CGS), discute-se aspectos ligados à adequação da legislação à realidade dos extrativistas, concedendo especial destaque ao tema " função social da propriedade ". Faz-se uma revisão das políticas públicas e da legislação voltadas ao uso sustentável da biodiversidade no Brasil e no Cerrado. Leis como a do " Babaçu Livre " , do Maranhão, e a " Pró-Pequi " , de Minas Gerais, são utilizadas como referências para um aprofundamento em tal debate. Atesta-se para a grande complexidade da organização da atividade extrativa na experiência da CGS, e para a necessidade de um tratamento mais adequado à atividade extrativa pelo poder público e pela legislação nacional. RESUMO
Os solos de Cerrado são valiosos Serviços Ambientais provedores não só de boa parte do alimento produzido no Brasil, mas também da biodiversidade e da água oriunda de várias nascentes existentes na região. Apesar de sua importância inquestionável, o Cerrado vem apresentando um alto índice de degradação nas últimas décadas devido à expansão da fronteira agrícola e da atividade pecuária. Apesar da importância do gado de corte no Cerrado, é preciso aliar produção e conservação no mesmo contexto e os sistemas de uso e manejo do solo podem surgir como alternativas conservacionistas para recuperação de pastagens degradadas, evitando a continuidade do desmatamento. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os impactos ambientais, relativos à conservação dos solos, decorrentes da pecuária de corte em áreas de Cerrado. Para tanto, realizou-se uma revisão bibliográfica sistemática qualitativa com busca em bases de dados da Embrapa e SCOPUS. Após etapa de triagem dos dados, a busca resultou em 51 artigos cujos aspectos físicos, químicos e biológicos do solo foram comparados entre si de acordo com o sistema de manejo utilizado na pesquisa, utilizando-se como referência dados de vegetações nativas de Cerrado. Verificou-se que o sistema de Integração Lavoura-Pecuária teve caráter mais conservacionista em relação aos outros sistemas de manejo. No entanto, todos os sistemas de manejo possuem algum grau de impacto nas propriedades químicas, físicas e biológicas do solo em relação ao Cerrado, mostrando a importância da manutenção de áreas naturais para a manutenção e melhora da qualidade dos solos.

RESUMO: O presente estudo examina transformações relativas à emergência da política de manejo integrado do fogo na conservação ambiental brasileira, refletindo sobre os domínios do técnico, do vital e do político desde uma abordagem antropológica. A etnografia enfoca uma das Unidades de Conservação do bioma Cerrado que serviu de experiência piloto desta política de conservação. Mais especificamente, a Estação Ecológica Serra Geral do Tocantins, localizada na região do Jalapão (TO), que abarca uma grande porção da paisagem centro-brasileira chamada de gerais. Lá, gestores ambientais convivem com comunidades quilombolas cujas atividades de caça, coleta do capim-dourado (Syngonanthus nitens) e criação de gado no regime de solta são exercidas através de variadas práticas de queima. O estudo se baseia em incursões etnográficas e engajamentos audiovisuais junto a quatro modos de relação com o fogo, quais sejam: habitar, combater, prevenir e manejar. Demonstra-se em detalhe como o nascimento do manejo do fogo repercute em transformações tanto nos modos de ação sobre o fenômeno quanto junto às formas de vida humanas e não humanas que dependem das áreas queimadas. Analisadas desde a antropologia da técnica, em suas interfaces com a antropologia da vida e a tradição de estudos biopolíticos, estas transformações são qualificadas não apenas como políticas, mas também, ou primordialmente, como técnicas. Isso porque elas modulam ritmos e processos vitais, conformando paisagens e promovendo certas formas de vida. Além de fornecer uma teoria etnográfica dos fogos gerais e suas transformações, este estudo também baliza caminhos metodológicos para o exame da tecnicidade das políticas de conservação ambiental.

ABSTRACT: The present study deals with transformations related to the emergence of the integrated fire management policy in Brazilian environmental conservation, reflecting on the domains of the technical, the vital and the political from an anthropological approach. The ethnography focuses on one of the Natural Parks of the Cerrado biome that served as a pilot experience of this conservation policy. More specifically, the Estação Ecológica Serra Geral do Tocantins, located in the Jalapão region (TO), which encompasses a large portion of the central Brazilian landscape called the gerais. There, environmental managers live with Quilombolas communities whose activities of hunting, gathering of goldengrass (Syngonanthus nitens) and cattle breeding in the extensive regime called solta are exercised through various burning practices. The study is based on ethnographic incursions and audiovisual engagements together with four modes of relation with fire: dwelling, fighting, preventing and managing. It is demonstrated in detail how the birth of fire management has repercussions on both the modes of action on the phenomenon and on the human and non-human forms of life that depend on the burned areas. Analyzed from the anthropology of technique, in its interfaces with the anthropology of life and the tradition of biopolitical studies, these transformations are qualified not only as political, but also, or primarily, as technical. This is so because they modulate rhythms and vital processes, shaping landscapes and promoting certain life forms. In addition to providing an ethnographic theory of gerais fires and their transformations, this study also outlines methodological ways to examine the technicity of environmental conservation policies

O ritmo das mudanças nos domínios do Cerrado pode ser considerado frenético, pois se intensificou a partir da década de 1980 produzindo alterações no quadro natural em que as estimativas de perda estão em quase 50%, podendo chegar a 54% dependendo dos critérios adotados nas técnicas de monitoramento do uso do solo. Trata-se da região brasileira em que alguns estados como Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul e Goiás têm liderado sistematicamente as estatísticas negativas de desmatamento e queimadas, concomitantemente à expansão do agronegócio da soja. Dados recentes sobre outros estados como Tocantins, Bahia e Maranhão, principalmente nos setores limítrofes do Cerrado, também apresentam elevados índices de supressão da vegetação original e avanço da agricultura. Determinados impactos decorrentes das transformações locais nos vários ambientes do bioma vêm sendo denunciados como responsáveis por mudanças em escalas maiores, principalmente pela constatação da importância hidrológica dos domínios do Cerrado na conservação e manejo de oito grandes sistemas hidrográficos nacionais. Trata-se da grande caixa d’água do país como já mencionado por vários autores. Além disso, existe uma rica diversidade biológica a ser pesquisada e conservada em sintonia com as presenças humanas e tradições culturais inerentes às populações indígenas, quilombolas, geraizeiros, vazanteiros, retireiros, pantaneiros, entre outros.

humana, de suas práticas, experiências e dos saberes
culturais diversos produzidos no nosso Cerrado do
Brasil Central, focando algumas localidades situadas
em Minas Gerais, Goiás e Tocantins, em tempos
plurais. Assim, consideram o Cerrado para além de
um espaço físico, geográfico e natural, mas como
dimensão simbólica, cultural e histórica, como lugar
dotado de sentidos atribuídos por seus moradores
e por aqueles com o qual tem ou tiveram contato,
relação e conhecimento, marcando suas ações e dando
vida às suas trajetórias

“Mozambique is a Mato Grosso in the middle of Africa”:
Development and its frictions regarding the ProSAVANA event

This research delves into the themes of environment and development, as well as their compositions and frictions in the setting of the conflicts triggered by the effort to implement the Triangular Co-operation Programme for Agricultural Development of the Tropical Savannah in Mozambique (ProSAVANA). Launched in 2009, the programme results from a partnership between Brazil, Japan, and Mozambique, aiming to develop research, science outreach, and technology transfer activities in northern Mozambique over the course of 20 years. It particularly targets the area known as the Nacala Corridor, which comprises three provinces and numerous districts within its 14 million hectares (around 35 million acres). The region is traditionally inhabited by emakhuwa matrilineal ethnolinguistic groups, whose agricultural knowledge and practices elude the ones promoted by the South-South Cooperation. ProSAVANA, as argued in this work, was the term through which peasants were able to express their fears, wishes, and concerns that run through their existences, which is why this text regards the programme as an event. Aiming to describe and interpret the frictions between the different modes of identification triggered by the ProSAVANA event in northern Mozambique, the research undertook for this work was eminently qualitative and ethnographically inspired. A multi-sited fieldwork was carried out for this means, comprehending two different stays in Maputo and in northern Mozambique, including a period from February to March 2017 and another one from January to April 2018, as well as a fieldwork period carried out in the Brazilian Midwest and in Brasília from October to November 2018. With the purpose of following the lines of history that result in the cartography of the conflict, this research employed techniques of participant observation, open interviews, photographic records, and the production of fieldwork journals, in addition to obtaining access to the archives of newspapers and documents. As such, the theoretical-ethnographic approach presented here results from the convergence between fieldwork and an epistemological framework devised by the actor-network theory (cf. Bruno Latour), post-colonial perspectives (cf. Grada Kilomba and Frantz Fanon), as well as the ethnological literature developed in the northern Mozambique (cf. Signe Arnfred and Christian Geffray). This work considers that science plays an important role in this context of disputes, forasmuch as its inscription within a naturalist mode of identification (cf. Philippe Descola) produces similarities and continuities between different experiences, i.e., the Brazilian cerrado and the African savannah, whose shared nature is produced and reinforced through artifacts such as maps and geographic parallels. Considering how the network cartography understands markers that difference and inequality need to be observed, a reflection is thus provided in regard to the intersections between social markers (particularly ethnicity and gender), as well as towards the land itself. The indicated differences make themselves visible through the means of the language and the ways of narrating their existence. Through the description of the ProSAVANA in northern Mozambique, it can be concluded that development produces frictions between distinct modes of identification from which different worlds derive. Lastly, the theoretical- ethnographic approach employed here considers that the Mozambican experience provides nuances to the theoretical propositions regarding environmental conflicts by informing that subjects, land, and time are mutually constituted.

“Le Mozambique est un Mato Grosso en pleine Afrique” :
Le développement et ses frictions autour de l'événement ProSAVANA
Cette recherche se penche sur les thématiques de l'environnement et du développement, en comprenant ses compositions et frictions, dans le cadre des conflits introduits par la tentative d’implémentation du Programme de Coopération Tripartite pour le Développement Agricole de la Savane Tropicale au Mozambique (ProSAVANA). Ce programme, lancé en 2009, résulte d’un partenariat entre le Brésil, le Japon et le Mozambique qui prévoit des activités de recherche, diffusion scientifique et transfert de technologies pour une durée de 20 années dans le nord mozambicain, dans une région connue comme le Corridor de Nacala. Cette zone, qui comprend trois provinces et des nombreux districts dans ses 14 millions d’hectares, est traditionnellement habitée par des groupes ethnolinguistiques matrilinéaires emakhuwa, dont les savoirs et pratiques agricoles échappent ceux qui sont promus dans le cadre de la coopération Sud-Sud. Cette recherche soutien que le ProSavana a été le nom à travers lequel les paysans et paysannes ont pu exprimer leurs craintes, désirs et enjeux qui traversent leurs existences, de sorte que ce texte considère le programme comme un événement. Dans l’objectif de décrire et d’interpréter les frictions entre les différents modes d’identification entraînées par l’émergence de l'événement ProSAVANA dans le Nord mozambicain, on a mené une recherche éminemment qualitative et d’inspiration ethnographique. Le travail sur le terrain multissitué que soutien cette recherche comprend deux séjours de terrain à Maputo et au nord mozambicain de février à mars 2017, ainsi que de janvier à avril 2018, outre d’un séjour de terrain au centre- ouest brésilien et à Brasília d'octobre à novembre 2018. Afin de suivre les lignes d’histoires qui résultent dans la cartographie du conflit, les techniques de recherche qui ont été utilisées comprennent l’observation participante, des entrevues ouvertes, des enregistrements photographiques et la confection de carnets de terrain, outre de l’accès à des archives de journaux et de documents. La formulation théorico-ethnographiques est ainsi le résulté de l’articulation du travail sur le terrain et d’un cadre épistémologique composé à partir de la théorie acteur-réseau (cf. Bruno Latour), des perspectives post- coloniales (cf. Grada Kilomba et Frantz Fanon) et de la littérature ethnologique développé au Nord mozambicain (cf. Signe Arnfred et Christian Geffray). En considérant les sciences jouent un rôle central dans ce contexte de conflits, vu que, en étant inscrites dans un mode d’identification naturaliste (cf. Philippe Descola), elles produisent des similarités et des continuités entre des expériences diverses : le cerrado brésilien et la savane africaine, dont la nature partagée est produite et renforcée à travers d’artefacts tels que des cartes et des parallèles géographiques. La cartographie de réseau considère que les marqueurs qui produisent de la différence et de l’inégalité doivent être observés, de sorte à engendrer une réflexion autour des intersections entre les marqueurs sociaux (notamment l’ethnie et le genre) et la terre elle-même. Ces différences se dévoilent à travers la langue et les manières de narrer la propre existence. La description de l’événement ProSAVANA du Nord mozambicain permet de constater que le développement produit des frictions entre des divers modes d’identification dont découlent des différents mondes. Finalement, l’approche théorico-ethnographique entrepris ici considère que l’expérience mozambicaine nuance les propositions théoriques autour des conflits environnementaux en signalant que sujets, terre et temps se constituent mutuellement.

The Campo Grande-Corumbá Highway (BR-262) crosses a landscape/environment gradient between cerrado lato sensu and the southern pantanal (Mato Grosso do Sul State) that shows several levels of urbanization and large sections of pasture and native vegetation. The local diversity of fauna is high, and the occurrence of vertebrate/vehicle collisions is very often. To detect the effects of BR-262 Highway on wildlife mortality, data were collected about the incidence of road kills of animals within several types of environment and landscape between may 1996 and november 1997. The list of 1,402 mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians killed by vehicles includes at least 84 species, six of which are endangered: the marsh-deer Blastocerus dichotomus, the maned-wolf Chrysocyon brachyurus, the ocelot Felis pardalis, the jaguar
Panthera onca, the long-tail otter Lontra longicaudis, and the great anteater Myrmecophaga tridactyla. In 1990, the road-kill rate was from 16,8 road kills per month, and in 1992, this rate increased to 30 road-kills/month/yr. Actually, this rate reached up to 105 road-kills/month (03 deaths/day) at the end of this study (nov/97). Roadkills were more frequent in the Pantanal area, the largest neotropical flood plain. There are many features on the road landscape/environment distribution that could be affecting the road-kill rates. The border and the bank of the highway maintain some kind of secondary "corridors" to fauna (e.g. marginal forest and/or ponds), that could attract many species of vertebrates to the roadsides. Species diversity and distribution were mapped along the highway to detect the animal mortality patterns. The relationship between road-kill frequency and environment allowed me to recognize local conservation status, indicating the most important sites for wildlife protection, and supporting pertinent discussion about fauna management approaches along BR-262 highway.

Ao mesmo tempo, os relatos e análises mostram que esses saberes tradicionais vão se transformando, sendo desenvolvidos e continuamente testados, adaptados e reinventados por meio do manejo consciente das paisagens, ao longo de inúmeras gerações, e por isso mesmo são resilientes, diversos e apropriados a cada lugar. Essa conexão entre tradição e inovação — em meio a uma profunda crise ecológica mundial e mesmo após décadas de devastação do Cerrado pelo agronegócio monocultural — está entre os maiores legados dos povos do Cerrado, partilhando horizontes de vida, agora, e para o futuro.

This research was developed in Cerrado State Park, a Brazilian protected area located in the middle east of the Paraná state. The goals were to analyze the temporal and spatial fire risk by fire history description; fire hazardous periods identification; fire risk mapping elaboration; fuels characterization and its correlation to fire risk determination; evaluation of the viability of one stereo-photos series for a savanna area located in the south of Brazil; and the determination of the correlation between fire risk and wildlife conservation. The fire history was established by the fire use in the Park area by interviews and in situ observations. The fire hazardous periods were determined by the evaluation of hot pixels registered in the area between June 1998 and June 2009, and the evaluation of fire danger indexes represented by the Monte Alegre Formula (FMA) and Modified Monte Alegre Formula (FMA+) between May 2000 and April 2006. The fire risk mapping was elaborated by the integration of the fire risk maps of vegetation, human activities, slope gradients, slope aspects and elevation. The fuels characterization was determined by a direct sampling procedure, where fuels were harvested from 85 destructives square meters quadrates plots in six distinct physiognomies. Live and dead surface fuels were collected and separated according to the following size classes: woody 1 (0 to 0.7cm diameter), woody 2 (0.71 to 2.5cm), woody 3 (2.51 to 7.5cm), and woody 4 ( ≥ 7.51cm). Miscellanea (dead leaves, dry grasses and humus) and herbaceous material (live leaves and grasses) were also collected and weighted. The evaluation of the viability of one stereo-photo series for a savanna located in the south of Brazil was established by the methodology of using the stereo-photos developed for central Brazilian savannas. The correlation between fire risk and wildlife conservation was defined by the availability of shelters for armadillos (Cingulata). The evaluation of fire history, hot pixels and fire indexes were successful to determine the temporal fire risk and defined that August and September represent the hazardous fire periods for the Park. Two areas were defined by fire risk mapping as priority concerning fire management. The first one is located in the northeast and in the west, and the second one is located in the rivers valleys and in the middle of the area. Live fuels represented the highest amount (58.73%) of the park fuel load. Miscellanea and herbaceous classes represented 70.84% of the park fuel load. In the six analyzed physiognomies, three were classified as high fire risk and three as moderate fire risk. The evaluation of stereo-photo series was successful in three physiognomies of a savanna area located in the south of Brazil. Grasslands physiognomies present higher direct and indirect risk of fire for the survival of armadillos and consequently to the fauna community, than the savannas physiognomies in the Cerrado State Park.

The contact zone between Cerrado and Caatinga is among the least known areas in the Cerrado biome, and
no information is available about the anuran species occurring in this area and their ecology. Along this area, seasonally
dry tropical forests are common on the lowlands with some enclaves inside the Cerrado core area. Here, we present for
the first time a list of species on this zone recognized as a priority area for conservation inside the Cerrado. We sampled
anuran species within 30 km of São Desidério, a city in western Bahia, from habitats including temporary and
permanent ponds in Cerrado and seasonally dry tropical forests, as well as veredas and marshes. We recorded 32
anuran species, belonging to 12 genera in five families. Hylidae was the richest family (ten species) followed by
Leiuperidae and Leptodactylidae (eight species each), Bufonidae (five species), and Microhylidae (two species). The
heterogeneity of this site could be demonstrated by the presence of species with different dispersal/colonization history
with eight species (25 %) endemic to Cerrado, three (9 %) shared with Caatinga biome, two (6 %) shared with Atlantic
Forest, and eighteen (56 %) widespread through adjacent biomes.

Scientific research that purports to evaluate Indigenous fire regimes in the absence of ethnographically contextualized ecological data runs the risk of exacerbating the fire blame game and providing evidence to support distorted narratives advanced by anti-Indigenous advocates. Spatial analysis of fire scars in Indigenous territories can be an effective tool for characterizing cultural fire regimes in terms of distribution and frequency, especially when qualified by linkages to different local ecosystems. A recently published article drew on fire scar mapping from satellite imagery to assess anthropogenic fire distribution and frequency in the Pimentel Barbosa Indigenous Land, Central Brazil. The authors use their findings to characterize A'uwẽ (Xavante) use of fire as unmanaged and a model of unsustainable use of cerrado resources. In this article, we discuss Aguiar & Martins's recent paper in light of our long-term research on A'uwẽ hunting with fire in the Pimentel Barbosa Indigenous Land, arguing that A'uwẽ hunters do burn according to established cultural protocols, manage their use of fire for conservationist purposes, and do not cause environmental degradation by burning.

This study presents the qualitative pollen analysis of a record of Pau de Fruta peatland, from the Serra do Espinhaço Meridional, Diamantina, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in order to investigate past changes in vegetation and climate as well as to provide reference material for the palaeoenvironmental reconstruction inserted in the Cerrado biome, currently found in the studied region. The analysis involved 21 stratigraphic levels from a core sample of 428 cm in lenght, corresponding to the last 10,596 ± 102 years cal BP. The chemical preparation consisted of application of HCl, HF, acetolysis, ultrasound, and mounting the slides in glycerin gelatin. The analyses were carried out under an optical microscope. A total of 128 pollen types, related to 57 families of eudicotyledonous angiosperms were identified and illustrated. These pollen types were related to forest phytophysionomies, represented by the semideciduous forest and mountain forest, and the Cerrado (broad sense) phytophysionomies, including savanna formations ("Cerrado Típico", "Cerrado Ralo" and "Cerrado Rupestre"), forest areas ("Cerradão") and grassland formations ("Campo Limpo Seco", "Campo Limpo Úmido" and "Campo Rupestre"). Ecological information on organisms of origin, as selectivity to light and humidity, were described to provide inferences of environments of occurrence. Wet and cold conditions (~10,000-7360 cal BP), followed by wet and warm (~7360-4200 years cal BP), dry and warm (~4200-2200 years cal BP), dry and punctuated cooling (~2200-1160 cal BP) until current sub-humid climatic conditions (~1160-400 years cal BP and < ~400 years cal BP) are suggested by the succession of vegetation. RESUMO-Este estudo apresenta a análise polínica qualitativa de um registro da turfeira Pau de Fruta, localizada na Serra do Espinhaço Meridional, Diamantina, Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil, para investigar sobre as mudanças pretéritas da vegetação e do clima, assim como fornecer material de referência para as reconstruções paleoambientais do bioma Cerrado, que ocorre atualmente na região estudada. A análise abrangeu 21 níveis estratigráficos de um testemunho de sondagem de 428 cm de comprimento, correspondendo aos últimos 10.596 ± 102 anos cal AP. A preparação química consistiu no uso de HCL, HF, acetólise, ultrassom e montagem das laminas de microscopia em gelatina glicerinada, e a análise foi realizada sob microscopia óptica. Foram identificados e ilustrados 128 tipos polínicos, relacionados a 57 famílias de angiospermas eudicotiledôneas. Os tipos polínicos foram relacionados às fitofisionomias de floresta, representadas pelas florestas semidecídua e montana, e pelas fitofisionomias do Cerrado (sentido amplo), incluindo as formações savânicas ("Cerrado Típico", "Cerrado Ralo" e "Cerrado Rupestre"), áreas florestadas ("Cerradão") e formações campestres ("Campo Limpo Seco", "Campo Limpo Úmido" e "Campo Rupestre"). Informações ecológicas sobre os organismos de origem, como seletividade a luz e umidade, foram descritas para fornecer inferências dos ambientes de ocorrência. As condições úmidas e frias (~10.000-7.360 anos cal AP), seguidas por úmidas e quentes (~7.360-4.200 anos cal AP), secas e quentes (~4.200-2.200 anos cal AP), secas e com resfriamento pontuado (~2.200-1.160 anos cal AP) e condições climáticas sub-húmidas (~1.160-400 anos cal BP e <~400 anos cal AP) foram sugeridas pela sucessão da vegetação. Bees are dependent on flower nectar and pollen (main sources of protein and energy, respectively) and have an important economic and ecological role as pollinators, representing about 40 to 90% of phanerogams pollinators in several ecosystems. This work presents a description of bee species from Parque Municipal da Cachoeirinha in Iporá, Goiás state, Brazil. A total of 58 hours of capturing were performed on November and December 2004 and on March and May 2005. A total of 933 individuals were collected, distributed in one family, 16 tribes, 33 genera, and 62 species. Meliponini tribe presented the highest number of individuals and species. Most abundant species were Trigona chanchamayoensis (16.51%), Tetragona clavipes (14.79%) and Apis mellifera and Trigona recursa (12.33%). This work presents the first occurrence in Goiás state for six genera and 12 species.
