ИСТОРИЯ НА МНОГОТОМНИЯ АКАДЕНИЧЕН РЕЧНИК НА БЪЛГАРСКИЯ ЕЗИК (ИРБЕ) / THE HISTORY OF THE GREAT ACADEMIC DICTIONARY OF THE BULGARIAN LANGUAGE (HDBL) [ISBN-13: 978-1633154858] is a massive monograph on Bulgarian academic normative-stylistic lexicography with historical and encyclopedic elements. This particular dictionary is very difficult to categorize. It is a true TREASURE CHEST of the Bulgarian language, unmatched in world lexicography. In many areas it exceeds with its thoroughness  almost all other similar "academic" dictionaries (i.e Le Dictionnaire de l'Académie française, Большой академической словарь русского языка [БАС] and even the Oxford English Dictionary). Based on Dr. Stanislav Golovan's findings the РЕЧНИК НА БЪЛГАРСКИЯ ЕЗИК is 10-12 times faster to use than the OED2, and academically so contrasting to БАС (cf. lexical articles ПАДЕЖ in РБЕ and БАС).  The chronological boarders of THE GREAT ACADEMIC DICTIONARY OF THE BULGARIAN LANGUAGE (DBL) / РЕЧНИК НА БЪГАРСКИЯ ЕЗИК (РБЕ) start from Petar Beron (1799-1871) to the present day (XIX-XXI centuries). ИРБЕ covers almost 125 years of history, related to the theoretical and practical aspects of normative lexicography, pioneered by the Institute for the Bulgarian Language of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The principle languages of the monograph are Bulgarian, English and Russian. In practice, the HDBL shall be considered as the first and earnestly attempt of introducing this subject matter in English. More than 1,000,000 words are estimated to be used for describing this formidable subject matter in light of the latest achievements in world linguistics, lexicology and lexicography. The monograph is an introductory volume to the РБЕ (БАН). The entire work, as a single unit, is chronologically arranged essays, directly complementing the main subject matter. Each chapter can be read, used and lectured independently. Therefore, this oeuvre is strictly formulated to appear not just as an elegant appendix to the РБЕ, serving as a companion volume, but it is also composed and devised to perform as a compact textbook about the history of Bulgarian academic lexicography not just for Bulgarian students of philological studies, or foreign students at slavic departments and bulgarophiles likewise, but, in the interim, - to play an essential role to function as a guidebook for professorial lecturers, and as an illustrious Preface to THE GREAT ACADEMIC DICTIONARY OF THE BULGARIAN LANGUAGE (DBL).
