The article presents a study and edition of the Slavic text of a letter that provides previously unknown details about the psycho-physical method of prayer used by the fourteenth-century hesychasts. The research shows that it was written on Mount Athos between 1371 and 1392 by a follower of Romil of Vidin. The text soon made its way to Muscovy where it played an important role in disseminating the ascetic practices of Athonite hesychasm. Послание Феоктиста, списки которого часто встречаются в рукописных сборниках аскетико-монашеского и уставного содержания, содержит важные сведения о душевно-телесном способе молитвы, характерном для поздневизантийского исихазма. В статье выяснены время и место написания послания, личность его автора и язык оригинала. На основе изучения более 60 списков сочинения воссоздана история текста и подготовлено комментированное издание.

This article focuses on the non-liturgical text of the Old Slavonic translation of the Book Exodus with it’s relations to the Greek tradition. Detailed comparison of the both versions indicates some omissions, lexical substitutions and errors in the Slavonic renderings, but the main feature of the translation is strict following it’s original. The paper pays attention to the problem of the possible revise with Greek text in some families of the Slavonic manuscripts as well.

The late fourteenth-century Codex Pragensis slav. IX F 15 is a key witness to the textual tradition of the Slavonic Quaestiones ad Antiochum ducem as it contains an almost complete set of questions-and-answers (133 QA’s). It is argued, however, that this corpus is the result of a conflation of two distinct versions of the Quaestiones, viz. redaction T and version X. Redaction T, found in five Moscou manuscripts (15th-16th c.), is the result of a revision of the Slavonic Quaestiones based on the consultation of a Greek exemplar: both the structure (viz. the number and sequence of the QA’s) and the textual particulars of the Greek Quaestiones found in Codex Oxoniensis Bodleianus gr. Auct. F.4.07 are shown to be in almost perfect agreement with the Slavonic T-witnesses. Version X is much more enigmatic; apparently, QA’s from this further unknown text version were introduced in the Prague codex to complement the T-redaction’s corpus of 120 QA’s.

The Epistola ad Paschalem II papam is a diplomatic document written in the context of the expedition led by Bohemond of Antioch against the Byzantine Emperor Alexios Komnenos in 1107/1108. It is rightfully regarded as one of the most important testimonies to the increasing anti-Byzantine propaganda after the end of the First Crusade. This paper discusses the origins of the Epistola and suggests a revised date for its composition, then analyses the content of the letter and the reasons for which it was written.

This paper treads my long-term field research on the dualist religious movement called Bogomilism that is located along the ancient Roman communication of Via Egnatia and in the valley of Pelagonia. I discuss various written historical sources and topography in the region of Western Macedonia where Bogomilism had its strongholds. In addition, I also deal with some of the neglected monuments and remnants of the Bogomilism in the region. There are two ways in promoting this complex research: theoretical and topographical analysis of the Bogomil faith within the context of place and time. Here I also include archaeological, ethnographical and theological investigation of the religious group labeled as Bogomil.

The article addresses questions concerning the textual history of the Slavonic translation of the Quaestiones ad Antiochum ducem (CPG 2257) and challenges some of the positions taken by William Veder in his recent edition (2016) of this eratopocritic collection. A selection of key text witnesses (among which the Izbornik of 1076, the Troickij sbornik and the Laurentian florilegium of 1348) are examined in order to distinguish the different textual layers and to arrive at a better understanding of the text’s transmission history. It is argued that there is no firm proof for the existence of a full corpus of QAD questions in Slavonic prior to the 13th century and that the textual tradition of the QAD is marked by progressive expansion and continuous conflation.

Le premier est fonde sur les similitudes possibles entre le palais de Diocletien a Spalato et celui de Constantin a Byzance. Le second presuppose que le palais etait depuis l'origine un assemblage de bâtiments reliant des cours entre elles, ressemblant ainsi au complexe palatin de Rome.

The present contribution is the first in a row to provide a critical edition based on all available text witnesses of a part of the Greek text collection known as Soterios. Being the Greek model of the so-called Florilegium of Symeon-translated between 914 and 927 at the command of Tsar Symeon I of Bulgaria, with the Izbornik of 1073 as its most famous witness-the Soterios has long remained in the shadow of its early Slavonic translation. The part of the text presented here is quaestio 10 (an expanded version of Anastasius Sinaita's quaestio 73), taken from the second and central part of the Soterios, viz. the core of 88 ἐρωταποκρίσεις, and it deals with the contradiction of sinners that are apparently loved and blessed by God. The critical text has been supplied with an apparatus fontium et locorum parallelorum and deviation from the sources is marked in an apparatus collationum fontium. Moreover, the Greek variant readings have been checked against the two existing Slavonic translations, viz. not only the Florilegium of Symeon (Slav1) but also the 14th-century translation solely attested in cod. Berolinensis Wuk 45 (Slav2).
