In this paper, ELECTRE (Elemination et Choice Translating Reality) or Concordance Analysis is used for selecting a proper layout to suit a particular type of production system. The decision making becomes more complicated due to contradicting and conflicting nature of factors influencing Facilities Layout (FL) design. Various considerations need to be taken into account in this regard. The complexity is compounded when these considerations are conflicting by nature and they have units that cannot be compared on a same common scale (incommensurable units). Also, a FL problem cannot be claimed to have a best and a unique solution. But an improper selection of FL may eventually result in affecting firm's productivity, quality of production and profitability. Hence, to effectively select a FL for a specified type of production, several factors will have to be considered simultaneously. The goal of the decision process is to evaluate alternative FLs based on the activities and their contribution to overall organizational goals. Hence in this paper the Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) methodology ELECTRE is adopted to make an effective selection of a FL to suit the production process under study.

"This paper describes the “Public Space Patterns” ontology including itsrelated rule-based model, used as a basic structure of a “City InformationModelling” (CIM). This model was developed within a larger research projectaimed at developing a tool for urban planning and design. The main purpose is toprovide computer-readable descriptions of Patterns for planning urban space, tomake available programming strategies and design options to the participants of the urban development process. The paper shows an ontology implementation of concepts describing the public space and the relationships established by meansof transitive properties which allows the system to infer new relations amongstother patterns. The inference mechanism makes available relations that were notpreviously evident fostering the awareness of underlying implicit patterns.

Nowadays we are much closer to IC (Intelligent City). The virtual city or the city of the information with three main dimensions: one dimension is related to people in the city, a second one to the collective intelligence, and the third dimension concerns to artificial intelligence [1]. This paper tries to introduce in these concepts.

This paper presents the mathematical steady-state modelling of Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM), which is the most widely used member of Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS). STATCOM Power Injection Model (PIM), derived from one voltage source representation, is presented and analyzed in detailed. A program, Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems Power Flow (FACTSPF) in MATLAB has been developed which extends conventional Newton-Raphson (NR) algorithm based on the Power Injection Model (PIM).The STATCOM PIM and Current Injection Model (CIM) implemented in Power System Analysis Toolbox (PSAT) are incorporated in a 5-bus system. The results obtained from simulation of the 5-bus using FACTSPF are matched with those of PSAT in acceptable tolerance and thus confirms the robustness of the PIM. The PIM model represents a robust and feasible alternative when compared with Current Injection Model (CIM) implemented in Power System Analysis Toolbox (PSAT).

This paper presents an assessment of a selection software tools for urban design confronting their capabilities with the goals of the CityInduction research project. The goal of this paper is the assessment of existing platforms for computer aided urban design to select one as the basis for implementing the urban design model proposed in the CityInduction project. This model includes three sub-models that support the formulation of design programs from contextual information, the exploration of designs solutions through a grammar-based generative approach, and the validation of designs against the program through the use of evaluation tools. To each of these sub-models corresponds a module in the envisioned platform and so, existing platforms are assessed in terms of their ability to support the implementation of each module. The current goal is a proof-of-concept implementation, but the final goal is the development of a complete platform for supporting urban design.

The complexity of computer networks induces perplex management which requires expertise, error-prone configurations and lots of time and expenditure, whence management automation by means of network self-configuration is the answer. A new fundamental network management framework for self-managing systems is proposed and applied to distributed network management. It employs a declarative approach to the construction of network management by means of XML Declarative Description (XDD) and Common Information Model (CIM) – a standard network management model. With the former’s expressiveness and knowledge inference capabilities, it uniformly represents network management facts, axioms, constraints and rules of network management knowledge, while the latter’s interoperation with existing network management standards and protocols provides a framework with the ability to share management information on a multi-platform distributed application environment. An application to self-configurati...

<p>The genes in the blue box are the 24 high cross-correlation HCCS24 genes; these genes correlated significantly with VIM and not with CDH1, showing that they correlate with mesenchymal character. Note however that some genes correlated better than others with VIM: genes such as RAC1 and GAS6, as well as VIM, which failed to meet the strict criteria for inclusion with the HCCS24 genes, nevertheless are seen to be significantly correlated with them. Interestingly, some of the genes that were imperfectly correlated with the HCCS24 genes (i.e., GAS6, MAPK8, YAP1, and RAC1) tend to correlate inversely with VIM; the cell lines that contribute to this effect can be seen in <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0035716#pone-0035716-g004" target="_blank">Figure 4</a> (they include 4 colon lines that express CDH1 but not VIM). The low correlation of FURIN with the HCCS24 genes is attributable to its functioning in stromal rather than tumor cells (<a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0035716#pone-0035716-g012" target="_blank">Figure 12</a>); the low correlation of FAM38A however remains unexplained.</p
