Cape Coast

Cognitive and affective attributes are the key in any
educational  endeavor. They seek to give an indication of the
extent to which a learner would succeed in a given subject. Given
this, the paper  examined the cognitive and affective
characteristics of History students of the University of Cape
Coast, using primary data collected via focus group discussions
with a sample of History students selected through random
sampling technique. Discussions were transcribed into written
text and coded into themes and sub-themes. Commonalities and
differences in the key themes have been presented. The study
revealed that knowledge traits  characterized students' cognitive
abilities. The study further found that students have a negative
attitude and lack of interest towards History. The results from this
study calls for the need to improve the transaction of the History
curriculum in the University. It is, therefore, recommended that
teachers adopt and use appropriate implementation strategies that
would help students develop higher intellectual abilities and  the
right affective attributes for the subject.

As photography was taken up in the entrepôts of nineteenth-century west Africa, among them Cape Coast and Accra, it became a primary mode of portraiture. When considered alongside colonial-era holdings in European and US archives, historical photograph collections in families in Ghana suggest that photography's emergence cannot be separated from a range of other emerging and far-reaching creative modernisms. These portraits entail aspects of ceremonial debut spectacles, political ascendancy rites, and the visuality of decorum in larger public performances. From the medium's inception, photographs have been held and kept as enduring objects; at the same time, they are the layered products of multiple formal, aesthetic, temporal and conceptual interventions in a range of media, only some of which are the work of a camera.

Road traffic accidents (RTAs) and its associated injuries are one of the major causes of death in developing countries. Some researchers blame illiteracy especially among commercial drivers while others mention the poor nature of the road as the cause of this menace. In recent years, road traffic accidents in Ghana have become a major social problem in the world as one writer put it " carriage without horses shall go and accident fill the world with woe ". The main objective of this study is to analyze the pattern of road traffic accidents in the Cape Coast Metropolis. Non-spatial/secondary data collection was used to obtain information on the location, the vehicle type, casualties, time and causes of the road accidents. One common feature is to assess information on RTAs. This study is therefore committed to explore issues surrounding road traffic accidents in Ghana with much emphasis on the Cape Coast Metropolitan area using Geographic Information System (GIS). Secondary data was used in obtaining the sample data. Data was collected directly from the record books of the MTTU in Cape Coast, a branch of the Ghana Police Service. Data was analyzed and interpreted with the aid of SPSS v. 21 and Arc GIS 10.3 versions. After the analysis, the study revealed that, 9 hotspots locations which were identified were comparatively competitive to each order. On a scale, the highest of all the hotspot intensity is Pedu Junction which recorded 33 cases followed by UCC East Gate which is responsible for about 30 counts. Morree Junction together with Nkanfoa/Third Ridge Junction recorded the same counts which are 22 each while Yamoransa Junction, Kotokuraba and Siwdu accounted for 21, 20 and 18 respectively. Kingsway and Abura recorded 15 occurrences each on a range. Finally, it was found out that most of the vehicles involved in road traffic accidents were private vehicles which numbered up to 232 cars making a share of (50.5%) out of the total of 459 vehicles. Hotspot locations and road traffic accident fatalities were mapped using GIS ArcMap/View.

This ethnographic account analyzes the everyday occurrences at Cape Coast castle, in Cape Coast, Ghana, in order to understand the multiplicity of meanings that are held by diverse individuals regarding this heritage site. It therefore aims to provide an understanding of the fort that goes beyond its normative conception as a place stuck in the period of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, by acknowledging the way in which the site is employed by a variety of tourists and non-tourists alike, while also taking into account its context as an important site of diaspora tourism in Ghana. Interspersed with subjective accounts by the author as a fieldworker from July until September 2013, the article focuses specifically on tours provided at the castle, as well as the mundane social encounters that occur at this site throughout the day. The ultimate aim of this article is to illustrate the complexity of such a heritage site, and the importance of its local geographical context for the various meanings it holds.

The critical role personal savings play in the development of any economy cannot be underestimated. Unfortunately, personal savings which forms the fundamentals of national savings has been particularly low in Ghana. The objective of the study was therefore to investigate the factors that determine personal savings in Ghana. A cross sectional data from 250 individual household members in the Cape Coast Metropolis in the Central Region of Ghana was collected and analysed using econometric techniques. The estimation technique used was the instrumental variable (IV) method. The result of the study showed a significant positive relationship between personal savings and disposable income; personal savings and financial literacy; and personal savings and marital status.
