This is an historical overview of the form from early European and American silent adaptations of Gothic novels and Victorian theatre to the hyper-real twenty-first century Hollywood product, via Expressionism, Universal Studios, Hammer Films, Mario Bava, and Roger Corman’s ‘Poe Cycle’ for American International. The full entry includes close readings of Robert Weine’s influential and often imitated Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (1920), F.W. Murnau’s Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922), and James Whale’s Bride of Frankenstein (1935). The paper also considers period revivals such as Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein by Kenneth Branagh (1994), as well as more contemporary Gothic film, in particular the current trend for franchised vampires. This is my Dissertation for my Undergraduate Degree.

This thesis shall compare the experiences of selected British actors who saw active service during the Second World War.
Chapter 1 investigates the enlistment of the actors.
Chapter 2 investigates the training the actor’s underwent.
Chapter 3 investigates the actual combat service and course of the war that the actors endured.
Chapter 4 investigates time spent, if any, by the actors whilst in uniform, in any entertainment / performance roles.

This article examines the cultural and political work of transgender Chinese and Polish American filmmaker Christopher Lee through the affects of Lee’s autobiographical documentary short Christopher’s Chronicles – Chapter 1 (1996) and the work Lee’s queer/trans of color family performed to pass California’s Respect After Death Act (2014) to get Lee’s correct gender identity recorded on his death certificate. It argues that positioning the politics and affect of Chronicles next the actions of Lee’s queer/trans of color family through the Respect After Death Act allows us to rethink Asian American gendered citizenship through kinship, time, and affect.
