Elmar Allahverdiyev, Khurshud Mammadova, Afag Rajabli and Ramil Nabiyev's article about "Diseases of melon and watermelon plants and control measures against them" discusses the importance of melon and watermelon plants as food, diseases of these plants and control measures against them. In melon plants powdery mildew (Erysiphe cichoracearum, Sphaerotheca fuligiena), false powdery mildew (Pseudoperenospora cubensis), fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporium Schl), anthracnose or algae (Colletotrichum lagenarium (Pass) Ell.et Halst), root rot (Fusarium spp., Rhizoctonia spp., Phytum spp.), ascochytosis (Ascochyta cucumeris Fautr. Er Roum), white rot (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum D.By), corner spot disease (Pseudomonas syringae), gray rot (Botritis cineria),cucumber mosaic (Cucumus virus L.),  and etc. diseases, and in watermelon plants fusarium (Fusarium oxysporium Schl), anthracnose (Colletotrichum lagenarium (Pass) Ell.et Halst), root rot (Fusarium spp., Rhizoctonia spp., Phytum spp.), Bacteriosis (Pseudomonas luchrymans Smth. Er Br Stopp), Powdery mildew (Erysiphe cichoracearum, Sphaerotheca fuligiena), false powdery mildew (Pseudoperenospora cubensis), white rot (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum D.By), gray rot (Botritis cineria), mosaic (Cucumus virus 1) and other diseases are observed. These diseases significantly reduce productivity. In order to prevent diseases, the area should be cleared of plant debris, crop rotation should be applied, and high agro-technical care should be provided to the plants. Insects such as aphids, thrips and ticks that spread viruses must be eleminated. When the first signs of the disease are observed, the plant should be destroyed. Virus-resistant varieties should be planted.
