Female Managers

After the fall of state communism, the business press in Poland became an active image designer for people involved in management. Shaping the stereotypes about the market, enterprises and management, it also has an effect on gender related stereotypes and images. A study of a widespread Polish business magazine reveals a pretty flat picture: women managers are typically portrayed in traditional female social roles and the images of men are stripped of feelings and individuality. However, a trend toward the emergence of some variety can be noticed and perhaps can the presence of women contribute to a major change in management?

Özet Bu çalışma, MEB'e bağlı eğitim kurumlarında eğitim yöneticiliği görevinden ayrılmış kadın öğretmenlerin yaşadıkları sorunlara ilişkin görüşlerini ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışma, nitel araştırma modellerinden fenomenolojik desende gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2014-2015 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında Antalya ili merkez ilçelerinde görev yapan, yöneticilikten ayrılmış 9 kadın öğretmen oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Görüşmelerin ses kayıtları yapılmıştır. Yapılan görüşmelerde elde edilen verilere betimsel analiz, içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin analizi sonucunda yöneticilikten ayrılmış kadın öğretmenlerin yaşadıkları sorunlar şu ana temalar altında toplanmıştır: sosyal, ailevi, yönetimin işleyişi, kişisel özellikler, sorunları çözme yöntemleri ve yıpranmaya bağlı etkenlerden kaynaklanan sorunlar. Araştırma sonuçları, eğitim yöneticiliğini deneyimi olmuş kadın öğretmenler tarafından yaşanan sorunların tespiti, eğitim yöneticisi olmak isteyen kadın öğretmenlere yol gösterici olması, bu sorunların nasıl aşılabileceği konusunda getirdikleri öneriler açısından önemlidir. Abstract This study aimed to reveal the views of female teachers working for the Ministry of Education and resigned from educational administration, about the problems they face during their management. The research is a qualitative study designed in phenomenological methodology. The participants of the research were 9 female teachers resigned from educational management and working in central districts of Antalya city during 2014-2015 academic Year. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The interviews were recorded by an audio recorder and transcribed by the researcher. In this study, the data obtained were analysed via descriptive analysis and content analysis techniques. The research results indicated that the problems of which the participants faced during their management were gathered under six main themes: social, domestic, the functioning of the administration, personal characteristics, problem-solving methods and (physical and psychological) fatigue. The results of this research are substantial for determining the problems of female education managers by the ones who learn it the hard way, being a guide for identifying ways to augment their involvement in the field and offering suggestions about how to overcome these problems.
