Timurid era was a flourishing period of several arts which is in absolute contradiction to the political-military conditions of that period. After the conquest of Iran, Timor decided to gather artists in Samarkand to help him demonstrating his power and superiority and his successors also adopted such a policy which resulted in creation of a thought school in the name of Herāt in Iranian culture. Music is one of the arts experienced great prosperity in that period in a way that musicians stood on a higher situation in comparison with previous periods, the matter which is clearly reflected in reports of primary sources and survived paintings of that period. Using descriptive-analytical method, the present research is to investigate the music and musician status based on historical texts and related figures, especially considering the figures of this era in three governing periods of Timur, Shāhrokh and Hossein Bāyqārā. The evaluation of political motivations and stimulants of Timurid official figures who were interested in music would be naturally accomplished as one part of the study.

Fifteen years of copy-editing experience – with theses (both in economics and in several medical fields), journal articles, book chapters and books, conference presentations, government reports, etc. – are distilled here. Papers are often sent to me for “language correction”, but what I usually find is that, far more than that, what they most need is major work on organization, writing, and formatting (including presentation of tables and figures). Even good writers can improve their writing by paying attention to the points herein, I believe. Of course digging deeply into issues of organization, writing, and even formatting improves readability (and thus the probability of being published, read, and cited), but it can also help to improve the quality of the thinking, i.e., the content of the paper. 1. Spatiotemporal receptive fields (RFs) for left and right eyes were studied for simple cells in the cat's striate cortex to examine the idea that stereoscopic depth information is encoded via structural differences of RFs between the two eyes. Traditional models are based on neurons that possess matched RF profiles for the two eyes. We propose a model that requires a subset of simple cells with mismatched RF profiles for the two eyes in addition to those with similar RF structure. 2. A reverse correlation technique, which allows a rapid measurement of detailed RF profiles in the joint space-time domains, was used to map RFs for isolated single neurons recorded extracellularly in the anesthetized paralyzed cat. 3. ABSTRACT Empirical data, particularly quantitative data, are typically presented visually in the form of figures. In this presentation, I explore the potential for presenting data in the form of sound. As an example, I will use findings from an academic literacies (AL)-related project to describe some of the processes, choices, and challenges involved in creating “sound-figures.” With reference to similar data-as-sound projects from other fields, e.g., the sonification of data from the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland, I will discuss what insights sound-figures might provide that visual figures do not and how the two might complement each other, particularly in AL research. The presentation will also include a live performance of a sound-figure.
