In materia di letteratura sarda, il volume raccoglie il meglio della produzione saggistica di Giovanni Pirodda e dà conto della sua rara capacità di coniugare la sintetica visione d’insieme ‒ capace di ardite tessiture diacroniche dalle quali emergono i fatti letterari cruciali, nella tensione costante fra canone e deviazione ‒ con il ritratto d’autore e l’analisi puntuale dei testi. Le sue riflessioni, l’immersione nelle opere cui danno adito a beneficio del lettore, hanno indiscutibilmente qualificato la vicenda critica dei personaggi di spicco nella letteratura contemporanea isolana, quali sono Grazia Deledda, Antioco Casula, Giuseppe Dessì e Salvatore Satta.

La prolifica e raffinata produzione letteraria di Giuseppe Dessì (1909-1977), Premio Strega nel 1972 con il romanzo Paese d’Ombre, è intimamente legata ai luoghi della giovinezza dell’autore. Villacidro e il suo territorio sono il palinsesto in cui si svolgono le scene dei principali romanzi dello scrittore. Un recente lavoro di ricerca e valorizzazione dei paesaggi letterari dessiani sta mettendo in luce questo patrimonio diffuso, espresso in forma di itinerari e altri dispositivi, come chiave di lettura per interpretare la città e il territorio. In questo scenario di ricerca si apre la possibilità per la creazione di un Museo della Città e del Territorio di Villacidro, quale strumento scientifico e didattico per la tutela del patrimonio, capace di sistematizzare istituti museali e studi già consolidati sulla cultura materiale e immateriale locale.

In Paese d’ombre, a novel by Giuseppe Dessì, the author reflects on the issue of the national unification from the perspective of the Sardinian town of Norbio and its citizens. The unified Italian Kingdom is added to everlasting misfortunes such as drought, floods, famine and illnesses. In this newly born political body whose citizens are hardly able to communicate with one another, the seemingly disappeared borders are instead more impassable than ever. The pessimistic representation of reality might suggest Dessì’s negative attitude towards that historical moment, nonetheless the critic of the present is directed to improve the future of the State. Undoubtedly, a reasonable estimation of the present is needed rather than false political declarations for the purpose of improving the immutable condition of neglected human beings. The aim of this paper is to present the problems of Italian unification taking into consideration social and geopolitical factors which hindered ultimately the union between citizens in different Italian regions. The author of the present article analyses different governmental policies directed to improve the situation and the consequences of those attempts. In the analysis based on Dessì’s novel, historical sources are taken into account.

The article focuses on the role of cultural and historical determinants that influence literary translation. The objects of analysis are selected translations of fragments of contemporary Italian fiction – novels by Natalia Ginzburg (Lessico famigliare) and Giuseppe Dessí (Paese d’ombre), and a short story by Beppe Fenoglio (23 giorni della città di Alba) – which were published in the 1970s in "Literatura na Świecie", a Polish literary magazine devoted to foreign literature. The analysis of the phenomenon of fragmentation of Italian literary prose, which occurred in the selected translations, makes it possible to observe the impact of the target culture of that time on the way in which foreign literature was presented to the target reader.
