In the present scenario the growing concern of the people living in every part of society is the ever increasing price of fuel and the harmful effects caused due to higher level of pollutants in the atmosphere. For that search, alternative fuels are encouraged. One of the closest solution to control the above two concern is the evolution of the hybrid vehicle. The water hybrid vehicle uses an HHO (Oxy Hydrogen) generator to supply hydrogen on demand by Electrolysis. This reduces the exhaust gas emitted during the working of engine, and the temperature of the engine is also reduced which is produced by the burning of ordinary fuels. The HHO gas is injected into the inlet manifold of the combustion chamber through the air filter of the engine. It minimizes the carbon deposition in the cylinder thereby increasing the changing period of engine oil it also improves the efficiency of the engine and the life span.

Contemporary research into alternative sources of energy for transportation focuses mainly on electric/battery, hybrid and hydrogen powered vehicles. Such focus assumes that the current technology has to be discarded and cannot be improved. However, it is possible to introduce interim technology to alleviate the current challenges arising from continued reliance on fossil fuels. Such challenges include increased greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with consequent global warming and climate change impacts. The purpose of this research work is to determine if the partial inclusion of hydrogen gas (HHO) in a petrol fuelled spark ignition (SI) internal combustion (IC) engine would improve engine performance. If this is possible, old SI technology can be modified to reduce GHG emissions and improve utilisation of fossil fuels which are expected to dominate the transport energy source for at least the next half century. An HHO generator was designed, constructed and mounted in the engine compartment of a 1989 Ford Laser vehicle. This system allowed partial inclusion of HHO gas on demand into the combustion process through the air supply stream. Detailed and comprehensive experimental investigations were conducted for engine speeds ranging from 1000 to 3500 rpm while parameters such as the power output, exhaust gas emissions and fuel consumption were monitored. Results obtained indicated a decrease in hydrocarbon emissions and an increase in power output with an increase in the HHO gas for certain engine operating conditions. However, performance improvement cannot be claimed for all operating conditions, especially under higher loads where the engine ran with a rich fuel mixture. Hence, further work is required, through HHO generator refinement alongside better engine management, to improve the experimental performance and hence further understanding of this technology.

In this study, hydroxy gas (HHO) was produced by the electrolysis process of different electrolytes (KOH(aq), NaOH(aq), NaCl(aq)) with various electrode designs in a leak proof plexiglass reactor (hydrogen generator). Hydroxy gas was used as a supplementary fuel in a four cylinder, four stroke, compression ignition (CI) engine without any modification and without need for storage tanks. Its effects on exhaust emissions and engine performance characteristics were investigated. Experiments showed that constant HHO flow rate at low engine speeds (under the critical speed of 1750 rpm for this experimental study), turned advantages of HHO system into disadvantages for engine torque, carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbon (HC) emissions and specific fuel consumption (SFC). Investigations demonstrated that HHO flow rate had to be diminished in relation to engine speed below 1750 rpm due to the long opening time of intake manifolds at low speeds. This caused excessive volume occupation of hydroxy in cylinders which prevented correct air to be taken into the combustion chambers and consequently, decreased volumetric efficiency was inevitable. Decreased volumetric efficiency influenced combustion efficiency which had negative effects on engine torque and exhaust emissions. Therefore, a hydroxy electronic control unit (HECU) was designed and manufactured to decrease HHO flow rate by decreasing voltage and current automatically by programming the data logger to compensate disadvantages of HHO gas on SFC, engine torque and exhaust emissions under engine speed of 1750 rpm. The flow rate of HHO gas was measured by using various amounts of KOH, NaOH, NaCl (catalysts). These catalysts were added into the water to diminish hydrogen and oxygen bonds and NaOH was specified as the most appropriate catalyst. It was observed that if the molality of NaOH in solution exceeded 1% by mass, electrical current supplied from the battery increased dramatically due to the too much reduction of electrical resistance. HHO system addition to the engine without any modification resulted in increasing engine torque output by an average of 19.1%, reducing CO emissions by an average of 13.5%, HC emissions by an average of 5% and SFC by an average of 14%.

In this paper, the performance of single-tone Radio over Fiber (RoF) system has been analyzed by employing different duobinary modulation formats. This single-tone RoF system has been modeled and analyzed using OptiSystem (14.0) software. To evaluate the transmission performance of RoF system, various performance metrics such as Q-factor, BER, and Eye Height are considered. Simulation results indicate that duobinary Hyperbolic-Secant pulse generator format with Single Drive Mach-Zehnder modulator provides better Q-factor and minimum BER as compared to existing modulation format in RoF system.
