In the first ages of Islam the practices of Prophet and his companions have precluded the misinterpretation of religion. For this reason, the livings in the first ages of Islam contain significant examples which can help in perceiving of the Islamic precepts. To read the lifes of housewifes of Prophet age is significant, because they set an example for our lifes.

Economic poverty coupled with lack of quality education and skill based training for disadvantaged woman, in the context of development stand as an obstacle in addressing their everyday dignity and confidence to demand and access services.Skills development in South Asia has rarely been addressed as a crosscutting issue. Women’s work participation rates in South Asia are low compared to other regions.Social norms continue to influence work-seeking behavior, resulting in persistent concentration of women workers in certain occupations and as home-based workers. Being a home maker is being a member of the largest single occupation in our country. The aim of skill development, particularly in case of married women, is not merely to prepare them for jobs, but also to improve the performance of women workers by enhancing the quality of work in which they are engaged. Integrated learning programmes for women are recommended which will not only lay emphasis on literacy but on empowering women through awareness building on social issues, bringing about attitudinal change, promoting skill training for employment, providing information on health care, nutrition and hygiene as well as on legal rights.

Manuals on how to be a good wife had been widely available in Ireland at the start of the twentieth century, but with the emergence of new technologies, the advice extended to newly married women and housewives began to change in the 1960s. The concept of being an ‘ideal wife’ became closely bound up with being a ‘modern wife’. This is best identified in the pages of women’s glossy magazines, which came to replace the traditional manual as a source for guidance. The message, driven by the advertisers, was clear: a ‘good wife’ was not just beautifully presented, but also used all the latest ‘modern’ devices. Her home – especially the kitchen – was an extension of her appearance and reputation. ‘Modern life’ and ‘modern wife’ became blended into the one ideal.

This paper problematizes the relation between feminist ideas and neoliberal capitalism. Scrutinizing a biographical narrative collected during an ethnographic research in an urban settlement in 2013/2014, the paper deals with the ways in which women’s empowerment as a totality of discourses and practices, interacts with and embeds within existing culturalist notions of modernity and progress in the context of southeast Turkey. It argues that this interplay translates into everyday life as the overlap of contradictory images of women living in the region as victims of their culture stripped from politics as the over-politicised other of the nation. As a response to these overlapping images, underpinned by the neoliberal and neoconservative policies claiming to regulate the family, resistance remains intimate and appropriates the position of “the housewife.”

This paper examines the gendered aspects of consumer waste, dirt, and domestic mess in three early novels by Alison Lurie – Love and Friendship (1962), The Nowhere City (1965), and The War between the Tates (1974), set in 1969 – which I argue provide an incisive account of the transformation of gender relations over the course of the 1950s and 1960s. By focussing on the signifying potential of material objects in these texts, I seek to demonstrate Lurie's relevance to the “thingly turn” in literary criticism, to reignite interest in an author whose work has received surprisingly little scholarly attention, and to instigate a wider discussion of waste in her work as a whole, where it in fact proliferates. In broader terms, I hope to complicate existing scholarship on waste in literature (including my own in this area to date), which remains almost exclusively focussed on male authors.

To improve the capabilities and skills of housewives in Penas Kalimalang village, it can be done through training in entrepreneurship skills in making economic value fragrances and can serve as souvenir gifts. This skills training uses survey and interview methods as well as demonstration practices directly in front of participants. The number of participants participating was 22 housewives. The purpose of this study was to improve entrepreneurship skills of housewives in Penas Kalimalang Village through the manufacture of economically-priced air fresheners. With the presence of this training can help and develop the creativity, ability, and knowledge of housewives, especially in the area of Penas Kalimalang village to produce independently or in groups of air freshener products that have economic value and can be used as home industry businesses.

Purpose: This study has been performed to evaluate the mental status of the blue-collar women and housewives in Honaz district, Denizli.

Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study, 110 women working in a textile factory and 110 housewives aged 20-59 in Honaz district were compared in terms of mental health. Data of the study were collected through face to face interview method in December 2012. The first part of the questionnaire contains socio-demographic and cultural data, information about family and household, work life and lifestyle, the second part was 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) which was developed by Goldberg. GHQ scoring 2 and above is considered mental health distress. Chi-square and multiple logistic regression analysis were used to evaluate the contributing factors of mental health.

Results: A total of 220 women including 110 female worker and 110 housewive participated in the study, 68.2% of female worker and 92.7% of housewives were 30 years and above. According to GHQ scoring, mental health distress prevalence of women workers and housewives was 43.6% and 50.0%, respectively and there was no significant difference. Low educational level, older age, being single and presence of people with disabilities at home were found to be independent risk factors.

Conclusion: This study revealed that there is no significant difference in terms of mental health distress among blue-collar women and housewives. Mental disorders are common health problems in both groups.

In order to explore the perceptions of housewives who live in rural communities with large indigenous populations, a study was conducted in a community of the Sierra Madre of Chihuahua, northern Mexico, an area with a high level of marginalization. One hundred and twelve structured interviews were conducted based on a questionnaire that included such aspects as: socio-economic profile, background and basic knowledge about the environment, environmental issues, impacts of economic activities and priority issues for information and training. It was found that the ethnic, age, educational level and status of mothers, are important variables that influence how the environment is perceived. The depletion of vital resources (water and oxygen) is perceived as the most important impact of the overexploitation of natural resources; the Mestizo women showed a greater knowledge of the environment as compared the Indigenous ones. Homemaking is one of the main roles of women in all societies that is interpreted and executed differently in different social and cultural contexts. The aim of the current study is to explore the concept of homemaking in the interpretation of housewives in Shiraz City. For this purpose, a constructivist qualitative approach and a generic theory qualitative method have been used. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with individual participants and groups. The participants consisted of 34 married housewives, with children who had at least five years of married life. They were selected form different regions of Shiraz through purposive and snowball sampling methods. The data were analyzed using theoretical coding techniques. The interview transcripts were categorized under six schemes: marriage norm, child status, role management and acceptance, role pressure and over-load, instability of homemaking role, as well as rethinking and regretting. The core category in this research is harmonization challenge, indicating that women experience contradictory expectations and acts and actively try to harmonize these contradictions

The article probes the social background to the controversial ‘Kitchen Debate’ between the Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev and the US vice-president Richard Nixon, which occured at the American trade exhibition in Moscow during summer 1959.  Political histories narrowly focus on diplomatic point-scoring between the two leaders, leaving largely untouched the purpose of the landmark exhibition, and its expression of America's ‘suburban’ values.  This discussion traces a broad arc exploring:

- The exchange between Khrushchev and Nixon, especially their discussion of housing
- What was shown in the Moscow exhibition (detailing the display kitchen that prompted Khrushchev’s indignation), and the US State Department’s broad aims.
- The expansion of suburbia in post-war America (census figures quoted), and changes in property development including the emergence of commuter suburbs.
