Movement is performed against a background of subtle postural adjustments that counteract destabilizing forces imposed by the movement. Despite the importance of these postural adjustments to the safe and efficient performance of movement, little is known about the properties of these postural accompaniments. The purpose of this article is twofold. First, it provides a review of properties of postural adjustments that accompany a variety of limb and trunk movements. Second, a schema for the coordination of posture and movement is proposed. This schema suggests that a central nervous system model of body dynamics is essential to anticipatory control of posture during movement.

The spontaneous gesticulation that accompanies speech is an integral part of the linguistic system. Movements of the body are made in conjunction with speech to produce meanings and perform a num- ber of essential discourse functions. Gesture is ‘gestural action’ and gesture symbolism is dynamic, schematic and imagistic. Gestures don’t just ‘depict’ but actually ‘do things’: they shape ideas and fuel thought; they describe or report scenes; they give directions; they expose, report, and sum up argu- ments; they achieve textual cohesion and regulate communicative interaction. Gestures are a window into the mind. As gestures are made, visible kinetic form is given to invisible mental representations and hidden cognitive mechanisms. As hands move within the gesture space, objets of conception are created, and cognitive processing is ‘acted out,’ using symbolic acts of pointing and manipulation. Key cognitive abilities are revealed in the process: the ability to construe ideas and events as objects and substances (conceptual reification); the ability to form image-schematic representations of ‘things’ and movements, and to use these iconically or metaphoricially; the ability to make symbolic uses of space. Gestures are also found to play a central role in the expression of grammatical meanings and mecha- nisms. Thus grammar and gesture are clearly integrated in the expression of temporal dimensions, aspectual notions and modal stances. Gesture activity is also shown to be involved in the expression of concession and comparison. Finally, technical and methodological dimensions of gesture-analysis are discussed. The case is made for a new, creative approach to gesture watching – the ‘language and gesture workshops’ – where students may observe and physically explore co-speech gestures, develop their own choreographic variations, and work on sound, gesture and meaning correspondence.

Bu yazıda önce neden Aristoteles’e döngüsel bir tanım atfetme eğilimine kapılmamamız gerektiğini gösterecek, sonra da devinimin Aristoteles ontolojisindeki yerini saptamaya çalışacağız. Bunların ardından varolanlar (kategoriler) ile varolma tarzları (olanak ve etkinlik) arasındaki ilişkiyi inceleyerek Aristoteles’in devinim tanımının nasıl anlaşılması gerektiğini gösterecek ve son olarak da Aristoteles’in devinimi tanımlama çabasının epistemolojik önemine değineceğiz.

This generative art project and research take forms in the analogous analysis between western process philosophical thoughts and Chinese Taoist symbolism as an analytic-interpretive strand to investigate self-regulating moving images as automation of “creativity”, which evokes the Taoist aesthetic called “confusion”. The twofold virtual system of Tao-machine is bifurcated into two interconnected subsystems representing “Actuality” and “Potentiality” in which “Potentiality” is computed as the regulating syntaxes guided by the semantics in Taoist symbolic logic. The art project “Confused Objects” produced by Tao-machine, arouses the aestheticization of this convergent model of both western speculative process metaphysics and Taoist symbolism through a series of dynamic visual abstraction.

This paper examines Heidegger's Beiträge zur Philosophie with the aim of shedding light on its messianic-eschatological approach. Firstly, I take into account the formal structure of history through a reference to Aristotle's grasp of κίνησις and its principles. I then try to connect this structure to the complex epochal movement of Universal History, as it emerges from Heidegger's works in the '30s. Lastly, I deal with the concept of the last-God's realm in order to stress the messianic dimension of Heidegger's projects for the new humankind known as the Futurians.

In the armamentarium of calcium channel blockers appropriately functionalized 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)- ones have received considerable attention in recent past owing to their structural similarity with 1,4-dihydropyridine based drugs. In this review, we highlight detailed investigations in the calcium channel blocking and other activities of this category of compounds as well as trace their genesis from 1,4-dihydropyridine based drugs.

Introdução: O glicogênio é fonte energética para ações musculares. Dietas ricas em carboidratos permitem o armazenamento e disponibilização desse glicogênio. As dietas cetogênicas, apesar de reduzir os estoques de glicogênio, permitem que o organismo utilize como substrato a gordura corporal. Objetivamos identificar se a mudança alimentar pode influenciar na performance. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma revisão sistemática na base de dados do PubMed. Resultados: Foram encontrados 100 estudos. Cinco foram selecionados para compor este artigo. Conclusão: Esse tipo de intervenção dietética permite a perda de gordura corporal, mantendo a estrutura muscular construída pelo treinamento, sem prejudicar a performance.

O, forse, la filosofia non solo si occupa di, ma è questa dinamica di cambiamento, rispetto alla quale quindi sembra piuttosto ingenuo voler identificare il movimento corretto da quello sbagliato, anziché chiedere al pensiero di rendere per quanto possibile esplicito l’attraversamento che avviene in ciascuno di noi e che ciascuno di noi è, e che quindi, per quanto possa sembrare una posizione stabile, permanente, finanche assoluta, universale e necessaria, è sempre nient’altro che una transizione.

This memorial aims to narrate the life and work of Professor Ruy Jornada Krebs, a professional dedicated to the study of human development and teaching, research and extension in Brazilian Physical Education. The text covers academic formative process, the first professional activities, the professor&#39;s university career, his academic history at Physical Education and Sports  Center (CEFD) of Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) and his dedication to the Globalized Methodology and the Bioecological Theory of Human Development: Retirement and moving to State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC) are also considered for the discussion in this memorial, as well as the productive continuity in the area. In the year that CEFD celebrates 50 years, an honor is is  given for one of the main Brazilian Physical Education professionals.

El siguiente artículo intenta defender la tesis de que la distinción aristotélica entre enérgeia y kínesis debe ser comprendida de modo intensional (en contraposición a una lectura extensional), tomando como punto de partida su célebre aparición en Met IX 6. Sobre la base de la identificación del problema acerca del cual trata dicho pasaje, se toma en consideración otras apariciones de la distinción en Met IX 8, en la EE, en la EN y en otros textos, en orden a documentar, en primer lugar, la vinculación de la distinción con la noción de érgon y, en segundo lugar, de qué modo dicha vinculación permite una lectura intensional de la distinción. Por último, se ofrece un argumento adicional para dicha lectura considerando la estructura teleológica de la acciones presentada por Aristóteles en EN I 1.

I saggi qui raccolti hanno a che fare con l’inevitabilità del movimento che caratterizza il vivere. La vita è costantemente (in) divenire, (in) transizione, (in) cambiamento, attraversata e attraversante; pensare, allora, significa anche, e forse soprattutto, fare i conti con questo divenire. O, forse, il pensiero non solo si occupa di questo divenire, ma consiste in questo divenire. Appare così piuttosto ingenua la pretesa di voler comprendere la realtà a partire da sue ipostatizzazioni, anziché chiedere al pensiero di rendere per quanto possibile esplicito il divenire che avviene attorno e dentro ciascuno di noi, prendendo posizione, sempre in divenire, solo in conseguenza di un simile ragionamento. In tempi di crisi, come quello attuale, si assiste alla disperata ricerca di punti di riferimento duraturi, stabili, auspicabilmente immobili. Forse, invece, ogni crisi, valoriale o politico-sociale che sia, si può risolvere e prevenire solo a partire dalla considerazione che di fisso e certo, vi è solo il cambiamento.

Este estudo procura analisar possíveis contribuições que a discussão filosófica sobre experiência traz para se pensar o ensino das práticas corporais na escola. Para isso, o texto recorre às análises sobre a (re)configuração da categoria experiência na modernidade e defende, no âmbito da Educação Física, que se pense a experiência a partir de um viés enriquecedor: menos centralizado em um ensino fechado/instrumental e mais preocupado com um ensino das práticas corporais de maneira aberta/inesperada. Nesse sentido, o estudo sugere que a tríade práticas corporais/experiência/Educação Física pode enriquecer as experiências corporais, dando um novo sentido à aprendizagem.

There have been many scholarly works on each of Plato's and Aris-totle's construction of soul, both considering them separately and conjoint-ly. This time, my aim is to posit meeting and parting points of their views in the light of movement as a key underlying component that constitutes not only a visual metaphor, but depicts a broader pace which mirrors many aspects of their general philosophies. Therefore, I will discuss relevant medical, biological and ontological aspects of their theories while in those versatile domains reflecting back on most of the relevant points from their corpuses as well as the parallel kinetic aspects which are semi-tacitly in the formative background. Also, according to the context, I will focus either on Plato or Aristotle more, comparing the other one when needed. At the end of the paper, I will introduce some common points for the ancient period at hand, focusing on some mytho-biological beliefs and stands actual at the time, hoping to provide a broader frame of reference for the main examined question.

The aim of this article is to rethink the indispensable connection between aesthetics and life sciences. According to a consolidated tradition, the fundamental point of intersection between the two disciplines is represented by the concept of form. It is therefore to morphology that the task of thinking about the nature of form and the form of nature is ascribed. In this sense, Goethe and the debates on morphology arising from his texts represent an essential speculative starting point. However, the Goetheian teaching is, in this context, even more compelling, because morphology is already configured as a science of form that suspends the kinetic difference between natural and artificial beings, between nature and art/technique. If nature, physis, has still been thought of by Aristotle as the realm of arché, it will be a question of comprehend how, through the testimony of Heidegger and Schürmann, it is possible to metaphysically found morphology by understanding the essential “anarchic” character
of nature.

To investigate physiological risk factors for falls in people with self-reported lower limb arthritis. Six hundred eighty-four community-dwelling men and women aged 75-98 years (mean 80.0, SD 4.4), categorized with and without lower limb arthritis, underwent quantitative tests of strength, peripheral sensation, vision, reaction time, balance, and pain. A 12-month history of falls was also obtained. Subjects with self-reported lower extremity arthritis performed significantly worse in tests of knee and ankle muscular strength, lower limb proprioception, postural sway, and leaning balance than subjects without lower extremity arthritis, while being comparable in vision, tactile sensitivity, and reaction time. This pattern of specific impairments was also evident when group results for the arthritis subjects were compared with community normative values and presented as a physiological profile. O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar o efeito de uma proposta de educação física (EF) voltada à promoção da saúde sobre a frequência de atividade física (AF) semanal fora da escola em alunos da Educação de Jovens e Adultos, considerando o sexo, a idade, a massa corporal, a estatura e as modalidades de AF como fatores associados. Para isso, utilizou-se um estudo pré-experimental de intervenção. Como resultado, verificou-se que a AF aumentou 1,21 vezes no pós-teste, se associada com: futsal, dança, caminhada e musculação. Dessa maneira, conclui-se que a intervenção em EF propiciou aumento de 21% na prática de AF fora da escola no pós-teste através do futsal, dança, caminhada e musculação.

This chapter introduces the concept of queer kinesis. Drawn from Aristotle’s kinēsis, which the ancient philosopher used to suggest the potential for change that is brought on through movement and its process, I’m queering the term to include the initiation and successive development of (a) transformation (Kostman:1987:3). By examining and analysing performance artist and photographer Alexander Guerra’s ungendered character ‘Rabbit,’ I demonstrate how a transformation may occur through Rabbit’s performance, set in motion by an act of anthropomorphosis. Guerra notes that his work is first and foremost ‘always about movement and motion’ (2013). I critically read this example of queer kinesis as both transformational and transformative as it extends across time and place. Herein I employ a variant and specific notion of trans (as opposed to trans*) as an enactment of the transnational, the transtemporal and the transspecies.

Eukaryotic and archaeal translation initiation processes involve a heterotrimeric GTPase e/aIF2 crucial for accuracy of start codon selection. In eukaryotes, the GTPase activity of eIF2 is assisted by a GTPase-activating protein (GAP), eIF5. In archaea, orthologs of eIF5 are not found and aIF2 GTPase activity is thought to be non-assisted. However, no in vitro GTPase activity of the archaeal factor has been reported to date. Here, we show that aIF2 significantly hydrolyses GTP in vitro. Within aIF2γ, H97, corresponding to the catalytic histidine found in other translational GTPases, and D19, from the GKT loop, both participate in this activity. Several high-resolution crystal structures were determined to get insight into GTP hydrolysis by aIF2γ. In particular, a crystal structure of the H97A mutant was obtained in the presence of non-hydrolyzed GTP. This structure reveals the presence of a second magnesium ion bound to GTP and D19.
