Kolozsvár (Klausenburg)

Karl Kurt Klein (6.5.1897 – 10.01.1971), the only polymath of the Germans of Romania (Siebenbürger Sachsen), had a special relationship to the "Deutsche Burse" in Marburg an der Lahn and its leader Johann Wilhelm Mannhardt (1883-1969). On the basis of their correspondence  the essay gives an insight into the populist (völkisch) and ultranationalistic positions adopted by Mannhardt and Klein in the realm of "Volksdeutschtum" and their confrontation with the organization of the SS which started to patronize the whole policy of "Volksadeutsche" starting with 1937..

In the second half of the 16th century and throughout the following hundred years, Cluj was described in the contemporary writings as a "civitas primaria" (Georg Houfnagel), a "bright" city (Georg Reichersdorffer), a "key to the entire country (Transylvania) ... a great, rich commercial city, wellbuilt, with strong and ancient walls and numerous towers" (Giovanandrea Gromo). A multi-ethnic and pluri-confessional city; a city of craftsmen and merchants, a town equally princely and aristocratic; animated by intense religious expressions, yet in itself a model of tolerance remarkable for that time. Its political rise was endorsed by its exceptional accumulation of economic, artistic, and cultural values that justified its renown few cities can pride themselves in: that of "treasure city" (city of treasures).

Apothecary shops started functioning in Cluj-Napoca (Hu: Kolozsvár, Germ: Klausenburg, Lat: Claudiopolis) in the second half of the sixteenth century, but there are also contemporary mentions of exotic cures, barber-surgeons, and colonials used as medicine. The history of such medicines and cures, of who administered them, of how they were acquired and used, is an integral part of the early modern history of pharmacy as distinctions were still blurry between the different types of healthcare providers (barbers, pharmacists, doctors, surgeons, popular healers), between medicines and foodstuffs (spices and exotic fruits), even between medicine and poison. The present paper overviews existing data on healers, drugs, and cures in Cluj between the sixteenth and the eighteenth century and integrates it to the early history of pharmacy in Transylvania.

Dolgozatom Heltai Gáspár egyik vallásilag-felekezetileg kevésbé "leterhelt" szövegének, a Száz fabulának társadalmi dimenzióival és funkcióival foglalkozik. Case Study on Local Activists’ Struggle for Bilingual Place-name Signs in the Town of Cluj-Napoca/Kolozsvár

Cluj-Napoca/Kolozsvár is the second largest city of Romania and it is the cultural and economic centre of Transylvania. The city has a long history of multiculturalism, where Hungarians, Romanians, Germans, Roma and Jews have lived together during long centuries. While in the 1960-1970s, the town’s Hungarian population represented 42 per cent of the total population, as the result of rapid industrialization and communist government-orchestrated integral migration of ethnic Romanians from other regions of the country, the ethnic composition of the city has been changed drastically within the last 40 years. Due to the former communist regime’s strategy, that had the aim to change the ethnic composition of the city, the population of the city has tripled in less than thirty years, and today the Hungarian community represents 16% of the total population. However, Cluj-Napoca/Kolozsvár is the home of the 2nd biggest Hungarian community (approx. 50,000 people) of Romania. Given that in Cluj-Napoca/Kolozsvár the local authorities and the Court are ignoring the prescriptions of art. 131 and art. 76 of Law No. 215/2001, and during the last 15 years no bilingual place-name signs have been installed at the entrances/exits of the city till present, a local advocacy group has decided to take steps in order to solve this long-lasting illegality.

In Cluj, in the second half of the 19th century, more and more requirements were formulated for the construction of a modern water supply and sewerage system. However, we know nothing about the demands’ background. What social and economic processes formed these demands? Who demanded the modern water supply and sewerage system? In this paper I will answer these questions.

The present study aims to present a brief summary of the evolution of Hungarian legal education in Transylvania, Romania, since the establishment of first legal courses in 1581 to our present day, as well as its perspectives in the 21st century.

A kiegyezés első évtizede nem hozott lényegbeli változást Kolozsvár kezdetleges, éppen csak pislákoló gyáripara számára.[1] A fejlődést ugyanis számos külső és belső tényező akadályozta. De melyek voltak konkrétan ezek a tényezők? Milyen nehézségek gátolták a gyáripar kibontakozását? Írásomban ezeket a kérdésköröket fogom megvizsgálni, ugyanakkor fontosnak tartom kihangsúlyozni, hogy csupán a gyáripar fejlődésének általánosabb problémáira térek ki.[2] Egy részletekbe menő, a teljesség igényét kielégítő feltárás jóval kiterjedtebb kutatást követel, amire én most nem vállalkozhatok.

A kolozsvári Farkas utcai egykori ferences templom és Erdély késõ gótikus építészetel A középkori Magyarország késö gótikus építészetének lényeges színfoltja egy sajátos stílus, amelynek legkorábbi feltûnése és legtöbb emléke Erdély területére esik. E stílusra elsöként Nagy Zoltán figyelt fel, aki 1944-ben megjelent tanulmányában2 mindjárt mûvésznevekhez: János baráthoz és Köfaragó Györgyhöz kötötte. Nagy Zoltán nyomdokait követve Entz Géza dolgozta fel a kolozsvári Farkas utcai ferences kolostor építészeti kapcsolatait,3 majd F. Tóth Rózsa4 és Marosi Ernös próbálta bövíteni e stílus emlékeinek körét, illetve elemezni eredetét. Mivel az elemzések kiindulópontként a kolozsvári Farkas utcai egykori ferences (ma refor-mátus) templomot tekintették, vizsgálódásaink során nekünk is innen kell elindulnunk. Ez annál is inkább indokolt, mivel ez a jó állapotban fennmaradt emlék szokatlanul gazdag az építéstör-ténetére vonatkozó írott forrásokban. A ferencesek 1486-ban kapták meg a telket a várostól a király és az erdélyi vajda kívánságára. 1487-ben már elkezdödött az építkezés. 1490-ben Má-tyás király utasította Tharcsay Márton erdélyi sókamara-grófot, hogy gondoskodjék az építke-zés folytatásáról, és János testvért és szerzetestársait küldte Kolozsvárra, hogy folytassák a munkálatokat. 1494-ben az éfítkezés befejezéséig II. Ulászló király évi 300 forint értékû sóado-mányt rendelt a kolostornak. A templom két jól elkülöníthetö szakaszban épült: az egyszerûbb formálású szentély tûnik korábbinak. Gyámköveinek formáit Nagy Zoltán a visegrádi palota egyik keresztvirág-szalag-párkányával vetette össze, de nyugodtan összehasonlíthatta volna a palotakerengö 1484-es év-számú boltozatának konzoljaival is. Formáik ugyan nem azonosak, de némi távoli rokonságot azért nem lehet megtagadni tölük. A kolozsvári szentélynek a hajóénál korábbi keltezését az építési logika is megköveteli: mivel az új templom nem egy régebbi helyén épült, nyilván arra törekedtek, hogy minél elöbb használhatóvá váljon, ezt pedig csak a szentély mielöbbi befeje-zésével lehetett elérni. De a hajó késöbb keltezését a déli kapuzat reneszánsz stílusa is alátá-masztja. Figyelemre méltó továbbá, hogy a hosszházhoz kapcsolódó északi kerengöszárny el-rendezése, valamint kétszer hornyolt bordás keresztboltozatai szoros rokonságot mutatnak a visegrádi ferences kolostornak a 16. század elsö évtizedében beboltozott kerengöjével: Igenjellegzete építészeti elemei a hosszháznak a behúzott támpillérekre emlékeztetö, téglalap alakú I 1998 decemberében Szatmárnémetiben, a Középkori egyházi építészet Erdélyben témájú konferencián hangzott el egy elöadásom, amely azóta meg is jelent (Buzás Gergely: A kései Mátyás-kor királyi építkezései és a késõ gótikus építészet st{lusáramlatai Magyarországon. = Arhitectura religioasá medievalá din Transilvania. Szerk. Kiss lmola-SZöcs Péter Levente. Satu Mare 1999. 135-162). E tanulmányban a kései Mátyás-kor és a.Jagelló-kor késö gótikus st!-lusirányzatait tárgyaltam. A konferencián az erdélyi késö gótika stiluseredetének vizsgálatára nem tértem ki különö-sebben, inkább az ezt korábban tárgyaló müvészettörténészek megállap!tásaira hagyatkoztam. A konferencia után tovább folytatott anyaggyüjtésem alapján azonban meröben eltérö nézeteim alakultak ki e kérdésröl. Sajnos a konfe-rencia kötetébe technikai okok miatt már nem kerülhetett be tanulmányom módosított változata, ezért ragadom meg az alkalmat, hogy itt újra visszatérjek e kérdésre, ha csak egy rövid, figyelemfelhívónak szánt áttekintés erejéig is. 2 Nagy Zoltán: János barát és Kõfaragó György, Mátyás király és Báthori István erdélyi vajda építészei.

A vitairat felvállalt célkitűzése elindítani egy magyar–magyar párbeszédet, nyilvános közvitát a kolozsvári magyar nyelvhasználatról, mely képes megújítani a magyar nyelv helyzetéről és a magyar szereplők ezirányú felelősségéről alkotott elképzeléseinket.

A francia forradalmi és napóleoni háborúk idején a Habsburg hadsereg négy ízben is
komoly vereséget szenvedett Franciaországtól. A területi veszteségek mellett jelentős
volt az emberáldozat is. Ilyen körülmények között folyamatosan szükség volt
újoncokra, akik pótolhatták a megnyirbált állományt.
Az újoncok bevonzására rendezett toborzások rendszerint a települések főbb
terein, piacán zajlottak. Kolozsváron a Főtéren (akkori nevén Nagypiacon) levő
Fiskus kocsma volt az újoncozás helyszíne. Jelen kutatás arra szeretne fényt deríteni,
hogy a XVIII‒XIX. századok fordulóján a közterek milyen szerepet játszottak a
toborzásban, illetve a katonaság és a kolozsvári lakosság közötti konfliktusokban. A
tanulmányunkban külön kitérünk egy 1799-es esetre. Ezen év virágvasárnapján a
Nagypiac keleti felében lezajlott egy tömegverekedés, mely a városban jelenlevő
toborzó tisztek és a helybeli piarista líceum diáksága között tört ki, a tanulók körében
elterjedt híresztelések miatt.
Az előadás 2017. november 14-én, a Város – liget – köztér – szórakozás című VI. Magyar Várostörténeti Konferencia II., Utcák, terek (levezető elnök: Czoch Gábor) nevet viselő szekciója keretén belül hangzott el.

Az ország harmadik legnépesebb városa, fontos kulturális, oktatási és gazdasági központ, négyszázezer lakossal és százezer egyetemistával. Nem véletlen, hogy Kolozsvár 1 egyik kitüntetett " alanya " és kutatási színhelye, terepe a társadalomtudományoknak; a térségben végbemenő változásfolya-matok megértése szempontjából kapitális jelentőségű és mérvadó annak vizsgálata, értelmezése, ami itt történik. A romániai magyarság szempontjá-ból sem elhanyagolhatóak az itteni események. A társadalomtudományok közül a történettudomány, 2 a humánföldrajz, illetve a szociológia 3 és antro-pológia 4 fokozott kíváncsisággal fordul(t) a városhoz mint terephez. A városra vonatkozó szociológiai és antropológiai elemzések leginkább a tetten érhető, megragadható és leképezhető társadalmi problémákra fóku-száltak: így kerültek részletesebb elemzésre a migráció, életmód, lakáskér-dés, elszegényedés és szegregálódás, foglalkoztatás és fekete munka, illetve a nacionalizmus és etnikai konfliktus jelenségei. 5 Jelen tanulmányban vala-melyest én is folytatom ezt a hagyományt. Szociológiai szempontokat szem előtt tartva az " örökzöld " vagy " sztár " témához térek(/-tem) vissza: az inter-etnikus kapcsolatok átfogóbb kérdésköréhez tartozó " Főtér-ügy " legújabb fejleményei kapcsán arra teszek kísérletet, hogy megragadjam és modellez-zem Kolozsvár főterének átalakítása kapcsán a helyi médiában megjelent nyilvános magyar nyelvű diskurzusokat. Központi kérdésem a következő: milyen tipikus diskurzusok ragadhatók meg a kolozsvári Főtér átalakítása nyomán az írott médiareprezentációk tükrében? Amellett érvelek, hogy a téma kapcsán megjelent egy olyan töredezett és heterogén diskurzív mező, amiben a beszélők eltérő Főtér-képekkel operálnak, hiszen eltérő célokkal és érdekekkel rendelkező nagycsoportokhoz tartoznak. Úgy vélem, hogy mind-ez újszerű a helyi magyar nyelvű nyilvánosságban, hiszen a kérdéskör ezút-tal nem román–magyar, hanem magyar–magyar vonatkozásban került napi-rendre.

The seven and a half decades between the Mongol invasion of 1241-1242 and the granting of the urban liberties to the German hospites of Cluj (Kolozsvár, Klausenburg) represent one of the most critical periods in the history of this city. Castrum Clus was confronted, like other county centres destroyed by the Mongols, with the danger of losing its status and becoming a place without importance. It was saved from this unhappy destiny by Stephen V, young king of Hungary and duke of Transylvania, who installed here an apparently significant group of German colonists. These German guests played an extremely important role in the revival of the medieval Cluj. After 1275, when Cluj become abusively, in a period of civil wars, a possession of the bishops of Transylvania, these German colonists were those who refused to give up the freedoms with which they had been endowed and struggle four decades to regain them. This period of the history of Cluj is full of unknowns, the specialists having disagreements about many of the problems related to it. However, it remains an indisputable fact: The colonization of the German „guests” (hospitum et saxonum nostrorum, 1316) by Stephen V and their endowment with liberties was a crucial moment in the history of medieval Cluj. This truly founding moment was followed by a series of events that led to the granting of the royal diploma of August 19, 1316, and to the indestructible alliance between the German settlers in Cluj and the kings of the Anjou dynasty. The conflict that marked the evolution of this colonists’ community in the first decades after its settlement was one with lasting effects on the evolution of medieval Cluj.
