This paper attempts to correct the unwitting reliance of much transpersonal psychology upon Indian texts that were indigenously specific to sannyasins (nonhouseholder, monastics). This includes teachings from advaita vedanta, yoga, and many Buddhist schools on releasement from desire, the diminishing role of the ego, guardedness toward “the mellow-drama” of “worldly” life (as Ram Dass famously cast relational involvements). Some forty years of the unwitting over-application of such teachings to modern non-monastic lives has helped create an artificial split in transpersonal and East-West spirituality teachings involving “engaged/ embodied” and implied “un-engaged/un-embodied” spiritual paths. This article describes the value system and lifelong spiritual developmental path of the married householder (grihasthyin), where healthy ambition and egoic traits such as loyalty and lifelong commitment are emphasized en route to a balanced “ego-dissolution” and “ego-development” within the crucible of lifelong marriage, daily family life, and conscious aging. Thus, “spiritual bypass” issues are highly age-specific. Suggestions for a grihasthya-based marriage therapy are also described, drawing from forty-four years of clinical practice, as well as from the two-thousand-yearold Greco-Judeo-Christian soteriological (spiritually-healing) psychology based in admiration, gratitude, longing, apology, and forgiveness.

ABSTRACT
This article is on the role of counselling in supporting marriage and family in Kenya. The meaning of counselling has been expanded to include the four commonly available forms of counselling in Kenya namely, pastoral counselling, African traditional counselling, and psychological counselling and peer counselling. There is a general perception that problems that are experienced between couples could be well handled in the counselling context. It is argued that counselling should be made relevant to marriage in its various stages namely, pre-marital, marital and crisis stages. This article is based on the study problem that seeks to find out the extent to which counselling is a preferred option for resolving marital issues in Kenya. This problem has been broken down into four main objectives that include reassessing the role of counselling in Kenyan marriages, highlighting the sticky problems affecting marriages, discussing possible obstacles that prevent married couples from accessing and utilizing counselling services in Kenya and examining interventions that may enhance the uptake of counselling services in support of marriages and the family at large. The article adopts the broader definition of marriage that includes those marriages concluded the Christian sense, civil law, African customary way and even the informal come-we-stay unions. The research design and methodology used a mixed methods research where both qualitative and quantitative approaches were employed. This meant that the study relied on both the numerical data collected from the field as well as the in-depth analyses and descriptions of individual experiences and written content in order to come up with study conclusions. The two approaches were used interactively within the same instrument of data collection, namely the questionnaire. The reason for choosing the mixed methods approach was to allow for complementarity. However it is here clarified that the qualitative analysis approach was given more emphasis in the process of sampling, collecting, analyzing, interpreting and reporting data. A cross-sectional survey design was used to collect data at one point in time from the sampled population.  The study covered a broad spectrum of Kenya including both urban and rural areas. The participants came from 5 out of the 8 broader regions of Kenya namely, north Eastern, Eastern, Coast, Central, Nairobi, Rift Valley, Nyanza and Western. This was to provide a balanced view of the nature of issues in married couples. The study targeted married couples living both in Kenya’s urban and rural areas. The study also focused on practitioners involved in the various marriage counselling situations. From the target population the study used purposeful criterion to group respondents into urban and rural then apply haphazard criterion to pick the actual participants. The five regions were picked according to population density put forth by the 2009 Kenya National Census. As a result, the following regions were chosen for participation in the study: Nairobi, Eastern, Central, Nyanza and Western. Ten individual respondents (not necessarily couples) from each region were haphazardly identified to answer to the questionnaire with 5 from urban and 5 from rural places. Again the study used purposeful criterion to group the counselling practitioners into three: the church based counsellors, African traditional approach and the psychological counsellors.  From these three groups 3 respondents were haphazardly selected to bring their number to nine. Therefore the total sample size included 50 from the couples and 9 from the practitioners bringing it to a total of 59 participants.  The study made use of one hybrid questionnaire that contained both closed and open-ended questions. This was to allow the research to capture both the quantitative and the qualitative data from the respondents. After collecting the raw data, it was cleaned by sieving out redundant or irrelevant information before getting codified for use in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). This was analyzed using both the descriptive analysis as well as inferential and deductive reasoning. The conventional statistical methods that use grouping, frequencies, percentages and averages were employed in the analysis. Then conclusions, deductions and inferences were drawn according to the findings. The study worked with the assumptions that though counselling is relevant to the problems that afflict Kenyan marriages, the various forms of counselling are not up to the par in supporting this institution. The study assumed that there are obstacles that must be preventing the counselling profession from achieving this desired aim. The conclusions from this study are pertinent to the central issues affecting marriages and interventions required to enhance the uptake of counselling services in support of marriages and the family in Kenya.

Although it is not uncommon to address this topic within nonclinical and clinical populations, examination of emotions in adolescence from a treatment or intervention perspective is more unusual. This article discusses the emotions in adolescence literature from the vantage point of a particular, empirically-testedfamily-based intervention model, multidimensionalfamily therapy. Addressing the contemporary challenge to specify how research can influence practice, the article shows how research-based concepts guideformulation of therapeutic strategy, as well as a therapist's in-session behavior. Transcripts with commentaryfrom afamily therapy sessionfocus on a core emotion-relatedproblem with clinical and mtany nonclinical adolescents and their parents-chronic, stable, quick-to-escalate negative emotional exchanges between an adolescent and parent.

Explores the effect of destructive cultural ideas in the failure of marriages; contemporary problematic sex-based roles and related activity that cannot provide a healthy foundation for marriage and family life, but lead instead to marital infidelity; the damaging and destructive outcomes and costs of marital infidelity; healthy foundation for marriage and family, including secure attachment in infancy and adulthood; misguided ideas of romance promoted to increase commercial profits, but which become ingrained cultural marital expectations; the character of authentic intimacy; the connections between authentic intimacy and lifelong fulfilling sexual relations; and the emotional and moral foundations of successful marital intimacy.

The purpose of the present study was to replicate the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study framework, using relationship outcomes, and studied within the context of couple relationships. A thorough review of the literature on trauma, its prevalence, prior studies on ACEs, trauma and couples, and partner selection is presented. A secondary data analysis of 146 couples from a clinical source was used to test the present study’s hypotheses. Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM) was used to test the hypothesis that an individual’s ACE exposure history would be negatively related to both their own and their partner’s reported relationship quality. A cluster analysis was used to test the hypothesis that couples could be statistically grouped by ACE score combinations, and an ANOVA was used to test average group differences on relationship quality. Regression analyses were used to test hypotheses about partner selection. Results from the analysis include: (1) a small but significant negative impact of an individual’s ACEs on their own reported relationship quality, but no finding of a significant impact on their partner’s reported relationship quality; (2) a small but significant relationship between partner ACE scores; (3) a preliminary ability to group couples by ACE score combinations into three clusters (Low-Low, High-Moderate, Moderate-High) and a small but significant difference between two of the clusters; (4) an increased likelihood that couples will be partnered with those who have more similar than different ACE scores, and a significant trend that as ACEs increase, the likelihood of being partnered with someone who has similar ACEs will decrease; (5) a small but significant dose-response relationship between increasing ACEs and the likelihood of being partnered with someone who has more than minimal ACEs. Further discussion of the results, implications, limitations of the study, and future research directions are also included.

The last four decades witnessed a tremendous and wide-ranging change in family patterns in Western societies which also has rapidly impacted Indian society. Among these changes are phenomena such as growing rates of divorce, out-of-wedlock births and father absence due to globalization as well as same-sex marriages or civil unions and cohabitation of people without a marriage contract.  The central theoretical argument of this seminar is that the biblical perspectives on marriage and family-life are normative for all people in all times in every culture. The biblical perspectives not only offer a clear indication of healthy marriage and family life, but also entail that Christian attitude in marriage and family life can be a remedy to the damage caused by the new patterns.

The study aims at determining the impact of the Traditional Marital Counseling Model (TMCM) on marital distresses among married couples in Ghana. The study adapted versions of the Session Process and Outcome Measures-Client version (SPOM-C) and the Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale (RDAS) questionnaires to measure therapy outcome for 50 married couples who were selected through stratified proportionate random sampling technique to participate in a descriptive-correlational-experimental research design. Disparity analyses were done using the Predictive Analytics Software (PASW) 18 guide to Data Analysis. Descriptive frequencies were used to analyze the data on the levels of marital distress. Disparity mean values within the sample were measured by paired t-test technique. Correlation between outcome of therapy for TMCM and level of marital distress were measured by Pearson correlation coefficient. The study found that TMCM has a significant effect on the marital distresses of the married couples. Though TMCM is better for counseling clients with various types of marital distresses, it is most effective in situations where clients present severe marital distress. Therapists should use TMCM especially for clients showing sever marital distress.

In even the happiestmarriage relationships, individuals sometimes can face with stressful conditions or difficulties, and nevertheless,
their relationships can endure. Under these circumstances, it is thought that determining which resources provide relational resilience
would be a guide in strengthening a marriage relationship. This study aimed to investigate, under stressful life circumstances, how
relational resilience in marriage is explained with self-pruning, and mediation role of satisfaction with sacrifice in the relationship
between self-pruning and relational resilience. 300 married individuals (156 females and 144 males) who have at least one stressful
life condition participated in the study (M= 40.74, SD = .60). Participants were given Personal Information Form, The Relational
Resilience Scale, The Relational-Self Change Scale, and The Satisfaction with Sacrifice Scale. The structural equation model
analyses (SEM) revealed that in the face of stressful life conditions, relational resilience in marriage is closely related to self-pruning
and satisfaction with sacrifice. Results of the study showed that there is a direct relationship between self-pruning and relational
resilience, and satisfaction with sacrifice has a partial effect in this relationship. These findings are expected to reveal some resources
that have a role in providing relational resilience in marriage and by this way, make theoretical, practical, and interventional
contributions to the field of marriage, family, and couple counseling. In addition, it is seen that the results indicate the existence
of a potential serving to the understanding of relational dynamics in marriages.
