It is perhaps regrettably so that one of the defining features of social work is its tendency to become embroiled in and mixed up with controversy. When social workers make the news, the news is usually bad. For publics outrage is often a dominant mode of engagement with social work. However, if controversy is prominent in perceptions of social work, it is nevertheless particular types of controversies. Cast in various guises as "crisis", "scandal", "moral panic", "failures" and "tragedy" social work is inevitably caught up in a complex set of inimical circumstances. It's a job that brings practitioners face-to-face with anger, abuse, cruelty and heartbreak. This  means social work is sometimes colloquially  referred to as "grunt work" or "dirty work" (Hughes, 1962; Flaherty, 2014).  In "A Profession Chasing its Own Tail-Again" (1990) Hartman warned that conflicts, controversy and rifts are a sad part of the professional history of social work. Alongside this emotive terms, phrases and concepts which invoke failure and controversy are often strategically deployed to manufacture doubt and suspicion about the credibility of social work as a profession. In the UK recently this has certainly been the case with the likes of parliamentarian Michael Gove and policy advisor Martin Narey casting doubt on the worthiness of social work education in preparing students for front-line practice.  Arguably, it only through a thorough investigation of controversy that we can come to understand what permits previously distant characters such as Grove and Narey access to the social work stage. For all the attention given to and preoccupation with these concerns there is no single analysis of the nature of controversy to be found in the social work literature.

Adequate curriculum and training to prepare social workers for employment or Appointed service within legislative government, and electability to office is an unmet need within the profession often left unaddressed, which requires substantial training on par with clinical training.  Implications for social work education and field placement will be explored.
Explanation
The need for social workers to expand participation in the political and policy arena through strategic partnership is imperative for the Social Work profession.  Efforts to mitigate the challenges of both students and social workers changing practice focus from micro to macro careers in the policy and political sphere are under way to ensure that they receive the instruction and training required to increase competitiveness and raise the profile of the profession. Networked efforts on targeted issues that directly impact micro practice would reflect the difficult to qualify “generalist” practice.
The Congressional Social Work Caucus (comprised of members of Congress with social work interest) is a bridge between Capitol Hill and practicing professionals to participate more fully in deliberations on the Hill.  Linking micro and macro practice outside of what many students perceive to be "dry policy" needs to be addressed in order to make impact in a fund seeking fraught professional culture post graduation. 
Many early to mid career social workers are finding themselves stranded with little support and training to best fill the gaps in education and networked referrals. The Congressional Research Institute for Social Work and Policy (CRISP) is an organization devoted to expanding those opportunities along with professional organizations such as The Association for Community Organization and Social Administration (ACOSA).  Campaign Schools housed within the School of Social Work such as The University of Connecticut have already trained more than 500 professional social workers across the country.  Such programs offer insight as to how to model curriculum based on outcome.  In addition, programs adapted from successful trainings based on gender equality in politics would hold great value to increase significant outcomes, given that the vast majority of social work graduates are female.  "In much of the world, economic, political, social and cultural forces operate unfavorably for women and girls (NASW)."

Little is known about newly qualified social worker (NQSW) experiences of education, employment and training in Scotland. This article reports on findings from a national online survey (n=205) and focus groups conducted with newly qualified social workers during their first year of employment. The study presented here was commissioned by the Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC) as part of a wider strategic review of social work education. Following a mixed-method design, the results of this study were analysed using quantitative and qualitative software. Findings indicate that the majority of NQSWs feel well-prepared by social work education, but less supported by employers in terms of opportunities for continuous professional development. Experiences of good quality induction, supervision and opportunities for professional development demonstrate mixed results across Scotland. This study has important implications for the forthcoming review of social work education in Scotland and builds on research from England and Wales. It provides empirical clarity on what newly qualified social workers know, value and understand about their professional role and tasks. These Scottish findings run contrary to wider UK concerns such as those raised by recent commentators suggesting that newly qualified social workers are inadequately prepared for the challenge of childcare social work.

Nepal is a developing country and education in social work is still very young. Nepalese social workers are the change agents of Nepalese society. Educational institution is a place from where social workers gain knowledge and skills to transform the society.  It is important to know the challenges faced as well as opportunities accessed by social work learners in the academic and field sectors.
Social work educational institutions should be equipped with the basic necessities of education such as qualified professors, experienced field supervisors and sufficient books, as well as opportunities for skills lab, seminars, conferences, and so on. The researcher observed that in Nepal, many students are not able to sufficiently access these resources although they do have a limited opportunity for network building, integration of theory and practice, problem identification and engagement in problem solving process. All of them are not getting opportunity to be trained by experienced social workers.
So far no research studies have been undertaken on social work trainees in Nepal. Hence the researcher wanted to explore the opportunities and challenges faced by social work trainees of Nepal.

WASHINGTON, DC – On March 17, Social work students and early professionals will attend the first student-led Social Work Student Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill. This advocacy training for
students and emerging professionals, will complement the Congressional Social Work Caucus' “Social Work Day on the Hill.”

The day’s events will provide an opportunity for students to learn how policy is shaped and how pertinent issues are addressed the affect the profession as a whole. A major focus will be the
Social Work Reinvestment Act (SWRA), a groundbreaking initiative created to address the challenges faced by social workers and recommend strategies to maximize the services social workers provide, with recommendations spanning recruitment, research funding, educational debt, and salary inequalities.

In-person training will provide an opportunity for millennials to voice ideas and concerns to legislators and congressional staff, to speak up about the need for support for professional growth and innovation in the field, and to experience the power of getting involved in direct advocacy.

Intended both as an introduction to the thought of the Italian philosopher Roberto Esposito and as a mapping of current biopolitical analysis, this chapter traces the contributions of recent Esposito scholarship to widen perspectives in social work education and critical pedagogy to the nuances of contemporary theory. The chapter offers a summary of Esposito's insight into the biopolitical nature of social work and its implications for pedagogy. As one colleague recently remarked to the author "social work is the biopolitical project par excellence". Social work is a striking illustration of the neoliberal biopolitical strategy of governing "from below" whereby agents of the state are intimately connected with calculation or control and direction as micro practices of self-reflection. Social work articulates neoliberalism's normative attempts of mobilising social agents as reflective instruments of control. It will be shown how adopting a critical pedagogical approach among social work educators, researchers and students can educate and strengthen tactics of resistance (Webb, 2019). Drawing on Esposito's work, this can be achieved by a pedagogy that critiques professional normalisation as a negative protection, and the way this conditions front-line power relations with service users and carers. As a part of this biopolitical regime, a primary function of social work is to safeguard (negatively) individual, family and community life. From an education standpoint biopolitical analytics can focus social workers on investigating the network of power relations, knowledge practices and modes of subjectification evident in change processes and modes of surveillance.

This paper examines how normative technologies of power are emerging in social work that depend on the hardening of a risk rationality and strategies of social insurance against dangerous, vulnerable, troubled and marginal populations. Taken together, it will be shown how these radical changes amount to a reconfiguring of social work through forms of governmentality that is referred to as actuarialism. Actuarialism refers to the suite or programme of risk calculation techniques that underpin social interventions in advanced liberal societies. This suite of techniques in social work centre on various apparatus of calculative reason, or “centre’s of calculation” as Latour  (1987) refers to them, which permit actions at a distance. They constitute a very consistent field of intervention in social work especially with groups such as sex offenders. A new pole has been constituted for social work, focusing on the activity of regulating marginal and challenging populations, characterized by the question “How do we insure ourselves against the risk of certain populations today?”

ve yüksek fiyatı (sorumluluk ve/ veya suçlama) atfetmeleri, bu atfetme durumlarının havayolu
işletmelerinin güncel ve gelecekteki satış cirolarını etkileyip etkilemediği ve işletmelerin satış
rakamlarını nasıl-neden etkilediği tezin önemli bir boyutunu meydana getirmektedir. Dinamik
fiyatlandırma etkilerinin araştırılmasında nicel, tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel yöntemin ilişkisel tarama
modeli kullanılmıştır. Çok Değişkenli MANCOVA ve Discriminant ile hipotezler test edilmiştir.
Yapılan analizler sonucunda dinamik fiyatlandırma yönteminin (düşük fiyat/ yüksek fiyat)
bağımlı değişkenleri (fiyat bilinci, algılanan fiyat adaleti, prosedüre dayalı fiyat adaleti, atfetme,
tekrar satın alma niyetleri) değiştirdiği ve bu farklılaşmanın atfetme sonucu iki ayrı katılımcı
grubunun tekrar satın alma niyetlerini değiştirdiği % 93,1 güvenle tespit edilmiştir. Bağımlı
değişkenlerin atfetme sonucu değişmesi, aynı uçak biletini düşük fiyata satın alan katılımcıların
fiyatı adil bulmalarını ve tekrar satın alma niyetlerinin pozitif etkilenmesini sağlamıştır.Diğer
yandan aynı uçak biletini yüksek fiyata satın alan katılımcıların fiyatı adil bulmamalarına ve
tekrar satın alma niyetlerinin negatif etkilenmesine yol açmıştır. Tüm bulgular genel olarak
değerlendirildiğinde, insanların aynı uçak biletinin geç tarihte yüksek fiyata satılmasını atfetme
sonucu adaletsizlik olarak gördükleri, havayolu işletmesindeki fiyat haksızlığının tekrar
edeceğine inandıkları, bu fiyat haksızlığının devamlı olacağı inancının ise havayolu
işletmelerinin kazançlarını şimdi ve gelecekte negatif etkileyebileceği varsayılmaktadır.

Two groups of participants have been compared according to two scenarios within this
thesis study. In the 1st scenario, participants purchased the flight ticket for 50 TL and then they
came to learn that the other individuals have purchased the same ticket for 100 TL and have
attributed the achievement of paying a lower price to their personal characteristics. In the 2nd
scenario, the participants purchased the same flight ticket for 100 TL then they came to learn
that the other individuals have purchased the very flight ticket for 50 TL and have attributed the
high price responsibility and/or blame for the high rate they paid to the airlines. The objective
of this study is to determine the effects of price differences resulting from dynamic pricing in
the two scenarios on the participants and to identify which impacts on the purchase intention
were positive, and which effects had negative impacts on the purchase intention. Within the
framework of these two scenarios, the fact that individuals attributed low rate (success) and
high rate (responsibility and/or blame) whether these attribution statuses affect the current
and future sales turnover of airline companies and how and why they would affect the sales
figures compromise significant dimension of the thesis. The relational scanning model of the
quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional methods has been adopted to investigate the
dynamic pricing impacts. Hypotheses were tested with the Multivariate MANCOVA and
Discriminant. In result of the conducted analyzes, it has been found that dynamic pricing
method (low rate /high rate) changed dependent variables (price awareness, perceived price
justice, procedure-based price justice, attribution, repurchase intentions) and it has been
detected that this differentiation has changed purchasing intentions of two different groups of
participants at 93,1% of reliability. The change of the dependent variables in result of the
attribution has ensured that participants who purchased the same flight tickets at a low rate
considered the rate as fair and has affected their intention of repurchasing positively.On the
other hand, participants who purchased the same flight tickets at a higher rate caused them
consider the price as unfair and their purchase intentions were negatively affected. If we
generally assess all the findings, an assumption strikes that people consider the sales of the
same flight ticket is sold at a high rate at a late date as an unfair action and believe that the
inequality of the rates in the airline business will take place again, and that the unfairness of
such rates will be practiced permanently and they further believe that this could negatively
affect the airlines operations’ earnings now and in the future.

This article will discuss how two theoretical frameworks can be useful in the analysis of conflict situations in social work practice. By viewing situations from the perspective of competing and differing values, social workers are able to come to respect the positions of those with whom they are in conflict. The respect that emanates from being empathic and validating towards another's values is crucial for negotiating resolution to difficult conflict situations.

Pro gradu -tutkielma käsittelee sosiaalityötä osana kotoutumista. Tutkielman tarkoituksena on lisätä ymmärrystä pakolaisasiakkaiden kanssa tehtävän työn erityispiirteistä ja tuoda esiin miten monin eri tavoin asiakkaat merkityksellistävät samaa palvelua. Tässä tutkielmassa pakolaisella tarkoitetaan oleskeluluvan kansainvälisen suojelun perusteella saanutta ihmistä. Tutkimustehtävänä on selvittää millaisia merkityksiä asiakkaat antavat kotouttavalle sosiaalityölle ja mitkä tekijät edistävät tai estävät asiakkaan valtaistumista. Tässä tutkielmassa valtaistuminen nähdään siirtymänä marginalisoidusta pakolaisesta tasavertaiseksi yhteiskunnan jäseneksi.

Tutkielma on laadullinen tapaustutkimus, jonka aineisto on kerätty haastattelemalla yhdeksää erään suuren kaupungin kotouttavan sosiaalityön asiakkaana ollutta ihmistä. Teemahaastattelut on toteutettu neljänä yksilöhaastatteluna ja kolmena ryhmähaastatteluna kevään ja kesän 2015 aikana. Aineisto on analysoitu käyttäen teoriaohjaavaa sisällönanalyysiä.

Tämän tapaustutkimuksen perusteella kotouttavan sosiaalityön organisaatiolähtöisyys ja rakenteelliset ongelmat asettuvat asiakkaan valtaistumisen esteeksi. Tällöin asiakas on passiivinen tekemisen kohde työntekijän ollessa aktiivinen toimija. Palvelu on riittämätöntä tai se ei vastaa asiakkaan tarpeisiin. Asiakkaan valtaistumista edistää asiakkaan ja työntekijän välinen toimiva vuorovaikutussuhde. Tuttuun työntekijään syntynyt luottamuksellinen suhde ja työntekijän tavoitettavuus ovat tärkeitä tekijöitä yksilön ja yhteisön välisen suhteen vahvistamisessa. Asiakkaan yksilöllisen tilanteen ottaminen työskentelyn lähtökohdaksi on asiakaslähtöisyyden perusta.

Tutkielman aihe on ajankohtainen, koska kansainvälistä suojelua saavien ihmisten määrä on kasvussa. Jokaisella ihmisellä on pakolaisuudesta huolimatta oma tarinansa ja yksilölliset tarpeensa ja tavoitteensa, jotka selvittämällä voidaan tarjota hänen tarpeisiinsa vastaavaa palvelua. Asiakasmäärien kasvaessa myös kunnan peruspalvelujen ja kolmannen sektorin tarve kotoutumisen tukena kasvaa.

In the present scenario, the firm‘s management is facing multiple challenges in order sustain in the market and to cope with the global transformation each and every organization must implement the Supply Chain Management (SCM) in their management strategy. During the implementation, these firms undergo complex threats related to the supply chain. Thus, to address these critical supply chain threats, the firm must identify the factors causing these threats and components to cause the uncertainty and the key risk factors are communicating technology, information sharing, environmental factors, financial and strategic attributes.  In the unstable and unsecure terms of competitive environment identifying these risks cause the act of adaptation in strategic lever of the firm during the competitive process. Échos d'une recherche en sciences de l'éducation sur la formation initiale des Assistants de service social. charline bLAnzAt Je suis assistante sociale de formation et actuellement formatrice en travail social dans un centre de formation à Lyon. Ma recherche a débuté sur plusieurs interrogations : comment se fait-il que les objectifs officiels de première année du décret du 22 août 2018 réformant les diplômes de travail social de niveau III n'abordent pas la question du savoir-être des stagiaires ASS ? Les étudiants de première année, avant le début de leur stage ont-ils une réflexion autour de cette question du savoir-être ?Il m'apparaissait, pourtant, que le comportement, la posture, les attitudes des stagiaires étaient souvent abordées en terme d'évaluation lors des visites de stages et/ou pour l'appréciation écrite de fin de stage rédigée par le référent professionnel 1. Dans notre centre de formation, nous avons été témoins, l'année dernière de deux arrêts de stage de première année à l'initiative des référents professionnels pour des difficultés qui ne portaient pas sur des pratiques du métier, sur un manque de connaissances mais principalement sur le comportement du stagiaire : « le stagiaire ne dit pas bonjour, il utilise son téléphone portable pendant les entretiens, il s'affale dans le canapé en visite à domicile, il ne prévient pas de ses retards, voire de ses absences… ». Une nouvelle interrogation est apparue en prenant en compte l'incompréhension de certains étudiants : « je ne vois pas ce qu'ils me reprochent et pourquoi ils arrêtent le stage ». Cela relève-il d'un manque ou d'une mauvaise communication entre le stagiaire et le référent professionnel, ou d'une incompréhension générationnelle ? Comme méthodologie de recherche, j'ai choisi deux sources de données : les appréciations écrites de stage de première année réalisées par les référents professionnels (30 évaluations) et des entretiens semi-directifs auprès des trois acteurs de l'alternance intégrative : référents professionnels (11 entretiens),formateurs école 2 (5 entretiens) et étudiants (2entretiens). Ma démarche a été qualitative et inductive, ce qui m'a permis d'ajuster et d'affiner les notions théoriques au fur et à mesure de la recherche. Aussi les notions théoriques se sont-elles tournées vers 1) le « savoir-être », mot qui a été le plus employé lors des entretiens avec les référents professionnels et les formateurs école, 2) le langage des Ass relié à la notion de la culture professionnelle, 3) la différence générationnelle entre les ASS et les stagiaires et 4) la notion de geste de métier.

This paper argues that adherence to an ethical stance in is one of the defining strengths of social work and something that makes it both distinctive and progressive. Social work refuses to drop the notion that society can be a vehicle for the translation of private troubles into public concerns and the democratically generated search for community, solidarity and the good life. Against the tide of neoliberal political rule with its pursuit of self-interested individualism it is argued that social work retains a strong conception of an ethical good life. It is against this drift of hardening neo liberal politics that this paper situates the significance of social work in terms of the “practice of value”. To pose questions of ethical practice for social work is the first step towards reawakening them. This can contribute to the enrichment of ethical social work by activating moral sources. The starting point for this analysis derives from the writings of the Canadian communitarian philosopher Charles Taylor, and especially his idea that human beings lead their lives and assess themselves in light of broad ethical standards. The paper asks why social workers are committed to ethical practice through an examination of Taylor’s conception of “strong” versus “weak” evaluators. It looks at the way we can bring theory and practice together in accounting for an ethical social work and how this provides a basis for resisting the malaise of neoliberal capitalism. Starting from an actor oriented perspective, which holds to the view that human beings are essentially embodied agents who actively encounter things that concern them, the paper broadens this framework to examine the moral sources of social work.

Multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) are conventionally recommended in mental health
care literature as an important way to offer holistic treatment provision to patients. This
study aims to explore multidisciplinary teamwork in contemporary mental health
settings, particularly what aids and hinders the process of multidisciplinary teamworking,
and the social work contribution in such teams. In order to attain an in-depth
exploration of these phenomena, a single case study design was employed. Within this
design, data were generated through semi-structured interviews and structured
observation of a mental health MDT in Ireland. These data were analysed using
interpretative phenomenological analysis. The research highlights how the concept of
mental illness is contested within this MDT, with the medical model dominant within
an environment of fluid working arrangements. Professional role blurring and
stereotyping were found to impact the division of labour on this team, with role
negotiation found to be an integral part of retaining a professional’s practice identity.
This research raises concerns for social work’s capacity to function within mental

respond in order to empower Irish social workers to meet the challenges of mental
health multidisciplinary teamworking.

There is a significant blind spot in social work ethics and values which requires our attention. In previous articles (Webb & McBeath, 1989, 1990) it has been observed that mainstream ethics in social work, and particularly the British Association of Social Workers 'Code of Ethics', is dominated by a Kantian duty-bound ethics with its emphasis on "respect for persons", "people as ends in themselves" and the notion of "self determination". The blind spot we are thinking of is in giving over proper attention to a civic humanist tradition with its concentration on the common good. The fact that social work has failed to articulate an ethical tract in terms of the common good is not only suprising given its long and sustained history but also worrying because its absence leaves social work open to the criticism that the liberal Kantian preoccupations rest on a perverse mode of individualism which cannot be reconciled with the more sociologically and progressively oriented values of empowerment and anti discrimination. From a Scottish perspective we show how considerations of the common good not only better serve the principled purpose of a social work ethics but of equal importance that there is a persuasive lineage in the history of Scottish Enlightenment ideas which has a necessary and contingent relation to the social work context. These ideas rest on the eighteenth century civic humanist thought of Scottish writers such as Adam Smith, Adam Ferguson, John Millar and William Robertson. In conclusion we suggest that attempts to reconstruct the significance of the common good is a difficult task but the greater emphasis now given to the concept of virtue ethics in social work (McBeath & Webb, 2002; Banks, 2008) has the potential to assist this process. Such a communitarian perspective contends that there is an essential correspondence between the character of the citizen and the common good of the community. A social work for citizenship, in promoting the common good, needs, therefore, to encourage practices of cooperation, friendship, openness, reciprocity and a parity of participation in society (Fraser, 2000; Davies, Gray & Webb, 2014).

What is the status of critical social work? Neither the political trajectory nor situatedness of critical social work has properly been mapped out in the literature. Moreover, its relation to normative social work has not been fully articulated. The paper seeks to rethink the configuration of the relation between normative and critical social work in way that apprehends the political. Only by doing so, can we begin to sharpen the kind of critical awareness of and vigilance against the dangers that are structurally inherent to the negative protection function of social work. Critical social work is characterised as autoimmunity and threatens the immunitarian logic of normative social work, portrayed in this paper as a form of negative protection. Immunity is shown to be a biopolitical metaphor, with autoimmunity, the political agonism of critical social work. A principal aim of the paper is to contribute to a clarification of the agonistic nature of the immune-autoimmune dialectic as political and to strengthen the foundations of the meaning of critical social work.

This article reports on the findings of a funded research project which set out to understand what the public think about social services in Scotland.  Drawing on a national online survey of 2,505 nationally representative adults, the findings provide the first empirical data on public perceptions of social services in Scotland and make an important contribution to the extant international literature in this important area.  The authors were particularly keen to examine issues of legitimacy, trust and licence to operate for social services as they are framed in public perceptions. Data analysis occurred in two stages and employed descriptive statistical measurement and cross tabulation analysis.  The findings indicate that, overall, people in Scotland are positive about social services and the value of their impact on society.  Further, they believe that social services perform a valuable public role.  These findings are significant for wider debate and suggest that the Scottish public has a more positive view of social services than social service workers and welfare institutions typically perceive.  The findings also demonstrate the need to develop a more theoretically rich understanding of the relationships between public perception, legitimacy and social licence in social services, including attention to interdisciplinary and co productive models.

This article addresses the reasons why too few social workers are prepared for practice with first- and second-generation Latino indi- viduals and families, primarily from Mexico and Central America. To do so, the authors explore the social and contextual reasons for this paucity. Social risks and vulnerabilities of Latinos are assessed and are connected to social work’s mission to serve at-risk populations. The authors make suggestions for steps the profession can take to increase the number and quality of social workers who are equipped to practice with this growing population

The concern over the meaning of subjectivity has spawned debate across a range of disciplinary fields including studies of the ‘political subject’, ‘white subjectivity’, ‘gendered subjectivities’, ‘workplace subjectivity’, ‘colonial subjectivities’ and ‘embodied subjectivity’. As we shall see, any
consideration of discrimination and oppression will inevitably make either direct reference to or assumptions about the nature of subjectivity."

Abstract
The Evaluation Self-Efficacy (ESE) scale was designed as an outcome measure for evaluation research courses in social work. A revised version of the Social Cognitive Theory–based ESE (ESE-II) was developed and evaluated in the current study including both new and revised items. The ESE-II was evaluated in a final sample of 168 masters level students using a pretest–posttest design. Exploratory factor analysis revealed a single-factor structure underlying the 14 self-efficacy items at both assessment points. Cronbach’s alphas for the ESE-II were high at pre- and posttest. An argument underpinning content validity was developedand convergent validity was demonstrated. The ESE-II was also sensitive to change over time both at the item and scale level. The current study provides evidence supporting select psychometric properties of the ESE-II and the flexibility of self-efficacy as an outcome measure for social work education.
