What exactly keeps women ‘in’ inequitable care relationships, and how do we get ‘out’? This dissertation offers a timely response to a pressing societal problem – that of how to understand and organize care. Feminist scholarship and debates focus on the redistribution of care, considering how to shift care responsibilities from women to men or from individuals to the state. My research expands this work by critically reflecting on (shifting) relationships between women and the care economy with a focus on the moral dimensions of care work and on the narrative, intrasubjective work that women do.

The research mobilizes sociological theories of care work, gender and moral worth, and uses feminist life history and arts-based, auto-ethnographic methods to contribute to a conceptual reimagining of “care.” Taking an interpretive, narrative, feminist approach, I draw on 20 in-depth life history interviews with 12 participants, as well as on my own autoethnographic experiences as a live-in care worker at L’Arche. I analyze how women narrate renegotiating care responsibilities or expectations across our lives and in different paid and unpaid care contexts in Ontario, Canada. Making links to class, gender and conditions in the caring economy, the project contextualizes women’s narratives of orienting to projects of care, negotiating moral dilemmas at the limits of care, and stepping back from or renegotiating care responsibilities.

The study enriches feminist theories of care by developing a theorized account of the “relational care economy” that makes intrasubjective conditions, and the contradictions that people negotiate, central. I also contribute to a conceptual reimagining of “care” both by raising questions about whether “care as an ethic” should apply at the level of individual women’s lives, as well as by calling for a conception of care that makes limits central. Aiming to foster solidarity amongst carers in different roles, I ask tough questions about what we expect of ourselves and others, how we can stop setting women up for such intimate losses, and how our lives can be otherwise.

All too often education research focuses on academic disparities with under-served student populations. Frequently, both remedial and introductory college-level mathematics courses are cited as gatekeepers or insurmountable barriers for adult low-socioeconomic status (LSES) students. There has been a call from within the mathematics education community for less gap-gazing at disparities and more studies of success within marginalized groups. Many previously unsuccessful, under-prepared, under-served, and under-supported students persist and eventually succeed. In addition, there is a lack of research through the lens of the community college as a unique educational context, distinct from both K-12 and the four year colleges and universities. The goal of this hermeneutical phenomenological study is to describe and interpret the lived experienced of previously unsuccessful LSES students who became successful. Ten students told their stories during unstructured phenomenological interviews. Upon analysis of the interview transcripts, themes appeared consistent with the patterns of the inward and outward journeys found in the Hero’s Journey or monomyth narrative structure. The stages of the monomyth as described in the work of Campbell (2008) are rooted in the universal human themes of the transformational quest. Six meta-themes appeared through the textual analysis of the interview transcripts; 1) the call of a better life that requires education, 2) connections with mentors and allies through authentic relationships, 3) the cultural border crossing at the threshold to higher education, 4) perspective transformations taking place as tests presented by an array of threshold guardians are passed, 5) increasing resilience through taking ownership and increasing networks of connections as the labyrinth of higher education was navigated, 6) after seizing the magic elixir of education the desire to pay it forward.  Their stories reveal a perspective transformation as described in Mezirow’s (1981) transformative learning theory. These stories of transformational learning as experienced by previously unsuccessful LSES community college students provide essential insights as to how we might foster positive learning transformations, and more importantly, avoid being the source of needless obstacles for our students. These findings present a narrative counter to the current deafening drumbeat of the anti-developmental education, completion and acceleration agendas.

Jelle Creemers’s 2014 doctoral dissertation, recently published as part of the Ecclesiological Investigations series with Bloomsbury T&T Clark, represents the first comprehensive and systematic analysis of thirty-five years of international ecumenical dialogue between the Catholic Church and (some) classical Pentecostals, which convened in five phases of five to nine years each between 1972 and 2017. It is an exhaustive and definitive contribution to both ecumenical and Pentecostal studies.

The concept of Self-managing schools involving local community members, teachers and parents with the formation of School management Committee is gaining ground in Nepal after the world conference WCEFA held in Jomtien, Thailand in the year 1990. Transferring the management of public schools in the hand of willing community and motivating them to reform education by their own ability are self-managed schools. As the government of Nepal has planned to gradually increase the number of self-managed schools throughout the country, a need was realized to assess the readiness of communities (willingness and ability) to resume the delegated responsibility, which was the main reflection of the research study.
The research on self-managed school reflects the community involvement and participation in school management in the line with SMCs to transform the school as self-managed school. Community willingness and ability were the focal points of this research for assessing the readiness of the community to take the responsibility of school management and transforming them into self-managed school. The theoretical framework that supports the research was based upon the critical perspective of Karl Marx conflict theory in education, McClelland’s need theory of motivation, and Deci and Ryan self determination theory, based on which the reflection of community willingness, and ability in self managing school were discussed.

The qualitative method was used for data collection and the sources of data were both primary and secondary in nature. Semi-structured interview was used as a research tools for primary data collection. The secondary data were collected from research department, Ministry of Education, The World Bank reports and educational web portal. The interviewed respondents were the members of the school management committee, which include parents, teachers, head teachers, chairpersons and local community people of three community managed school of Lalitpur district. Triangulation method and cross verification was used for reliability and validity.
The major findings of this research were that despite the community schools located in the poor geographical location, the SMC have become successful in involving the local people in decision-making process. The willingness of communities was found high in terms of participation and involvement in school management. Involvement of the community in school management resulted in high rates of students’ enrolment, improvement in quality of education and introduction of English subject and English speaking environment in the school premises.
The readiness of community was accentuating for resource generation by utilizing unutilized natural resources, for instance, water and forestry. Apart from being isolated from the perspective of financial capabilities, the local communities have the potentialities to develop school so that the local community people do not have to seek for the private school for their children education. In addition, the School Management Committees also demonstrated their skills in participating and involving the students in committee meetings aspiring them to bring healthy suggestion. The commitment of the local communities to manage school also have solved the problems of poor maintenances of school buildings and classroom facilities with the ability to maintain relationship with NGOs, INGOs, CBOs and other business

organization to support the school with necessity financial means. In summary, the community of self-managed schools demonstrated both capability and willingness (readiness) for managing schools in a decentralized context.

This research examines the relationship between art and design, and health and wellness, and how effective this marriage is in improving the lives of those who experience it. This topic was chosen due to an observation of the increasing number of instances in which the two realms merge for more effective results. I looked at wellness institutions, wellness campaigns, fine art, and graphic design as examples to look at to extract information. The intention is to gather and generate enough information to include in an educational and experiential project that merges art and design with health and wellnes. Before art could marry wellness, wellness had to emerge half a century ago. “When we become interested in wellness as a condition, we discover that the state of being well is not just a drab, static one”(Halbert Dunn 3). Modern day wellness experts and wellness researchers have expanded Dunn’s model of wellness to eight dimensions. These dimensions are: Mental, Emotional, Spiritual, Environmental, Physical, Social, Occupational and Financial.

We thank Joseph Maxwell (this issue of Educational Researcher, pp. 28–31) for accepting our invitation to examine the roles and expectations of dissertation literature reviews. We agree that most are inadequate but disagree why. Maxwell argues that dissertations should emulate research articles and include a conceptual framework that only discusses relevant literature. Candidates need not present a thorough analysis and synthesis of the scholarship and research, Maxwell argues, or justify claims made about the literature. Finally, he asserts that we misunderstand the relationship between literature and research, leading to an accusation of “foundationalism.” However, these specific disagreements ignore fundamental differences about the purposes of the doctoral dissertation and the relationship between those purposes and doctoral program goals. In this rejoinder, we briefly explore these conceptual and normative differences.

The use of questionnaires to evaluate educational initiatives is widespread, but often problematic. This paper examines four aspects of an evaluation survey carried out with very able pupils attending out-of-school classes: ethics, design, bias and interpretation. There is a particular focus on the interpretation and analysis of pupils’ answers to open questions. Conclusions are drawn from this analysis which will help teachers and others to take a careful and critical approach to their use of questionnaires in educational evaluation.

paths of financial, economic and social systems that
are nearly impossible to deviate.
This study examines the relationships between
graphic design profession, ethics, and capitalism.
It attempts to assess the possibilities of sustaining
personal beliefs and ethical stance while working
in graphic design industry. This research also
recognizes the crucial role of design criticism and
activism as a catalyst for introducing a mind shift
in perception of the graphic design profession and

This paper draws on autoethnographical insights and genre analysis in offering an introductory guide for writing a manuscript-style master's level thesis or doctoral dissertation in TESOL and Applied Linguistics fields. We report on our own recent experiences writing, defending, and preparing for publication from our own manuscript-style dissertations during and following our doctoral study, both conducted at the same major Canadian research university. While other work in TESOL and Applied Linguistics areas have addressed the manuscript-style format amidst more general discussions of thesis and dissertation writing (e.g., Paltridge, 2002; Paltridge & Starfield; 2007), this article concentrates specifically on the unique characteristics of this dissertation structure and the genre-features, processes, and considerations around planning, composing, presenting, and publishing in this format. The intended audience of this paper is primarily graduate students and supervisors in TESOL and Applied Linguistics, although other stakeholders involved in graduate-level writing across various disciplines can also benefit from our discussion. Our central goal in writing this article is therefore to provide an introductory discussion regarding the nuances inherent in this format of dissertation compared to other traditional monograph forms.

A thorough, sophisticated literature review is the foundation and inspiration for substantial, useful research. The complex nature of education research demands such thorough, sophisticated reviews. Although doctoral education is a key means for improving education research, the literature has given short shrift to the dissertation literature review. This article suggests criteria to evaluate the quality of dissertation literature reviews and reports a study that examined dissertation at three universities. Acquiring the skills and knowledge required to be education scholars, able to analyze and synthesize the research in a field of specialization, should be the focal, integrative activity of predissertation doctoral education. Such scholarship is a prerequisite for increased methodological sophistication and for improving the usefulness of education research.

The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between McDonald’s and its sponsorship of The Olympics by testing how the consumer has been influenced.

H1 = Attributes associated with sporting events are transferred to sponsoring brands.

H2 = Brand image is transferred from the event to the sponsoring brand, not from the sponsoring brand to the event.

The hypotheses this study aimed to research are drawn from the research done by Gwinner, K. & Eaton, J. (1999); ‘Event sponsorship as a value creating strategy for brands’ and also Donahay, B. & Rosenberger, P, (2007); ‘Effectiveness of Image Transfer in Formula One Racing’. The study explores the image transfer process from The Olympic games to McDonald’s and whether the process can happen to the contrary though the sponsorship relationship.

The concluding findings were in favour of the hypotheses tested. Brand transfer does in fact occur from event to brand through the intervention of sponsorship. Further more the transfer can also be transferred from brand to event, as was found in the case of McDonald’s.  Negativity associated with the McDonald’s brand was found to be associated with The Olympic Games post sponsorship. However, certain restrictions to the parameters of the study have influenced validity greatly, regarding the overall significance of the data analysis.

The conclusions established should be of particular interest to corporations looking to streamline marketing communications strategies in the UK. Being of particular relevance for companies and corporations within the UK during and emerging from an economic downturn, as well as a platform for further study in the future.

With an ideation from real life scenarios, this project aims to create a platform which can culminate bespoke fashion industry at one place. The objective was to create an online customer experience in the sector of tailoring and customised fashion, so that it is just a click away, cutting through the hassle of visiting a local market every now and then. This research was undergone to gather data so that the user experience parameters can be listed for such a platform. This research involves a user centre approach involving interaction with the fashion enthusiasts, frequent shoppers and business founders in the field of bespoke fashion. The data has been analysed to do feature prioritisation for the UX design of the application followed by wireframe designs and user stories with basic and alternative flow as well. The High-Fidelity prototype of the design has been taken through the user testing to gather feedback on certain key functions of the app.

This paper examines the geology of the Lagrasse area, southern France. The stratigraphy in the area ranges in age from 72ma-52ma with recent Quaternary superficial deposits noted. All the strata in the region are calcite bearing, this along with tectonic influences in the area forms the rugged valley filled landscape around Lagrasse. The area is located in the Pyrenean foothills and has noticeable deformation throughout many units especially the Ribaute Limestone, likely deformed during the Eocene. The tectonic processes before the Eocene that led to the formation of the Pyrenees are also responsible for the depositional environments of the strata. The depositional settings are controlled by related processes such as foreland basin formation. The rugged landscape created makes the region prone to flooding with narrow valleys that have to share waterways and roads making natural disasters ever present in the area such as disastrous floods in 1999 and 2014.

This transdisciplinary inquiry is a personal and academic inquiry into Goddess Spirituality in contemporary society.  It focuses on the stories of women who joined a Goddess Temple in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina.  The central inquiry question is: What are the motivations and lived experiences of women who are drawn to Goddess Spirituality and who choose to join a Goddess Temple? Organic inquiry and narrative inquiry will be employed in order to collect the stories of these women, and the women’s narratives, or tellings, will be analyzed using The Listening Guide (Gilligan, C. & et al., 2006).  These will be contextualized within the broader literature of Goddess Spirituality, thealogy, and ecofeminism.

The researcher used deductive approach of research where some important theories of green marketing have been described critically. For ensuring the accuracy of the research and assuring about non-manipulation the researcher used quantitative research method. 50 regular consumers have randomly been picked for the research by having their responses on selected variables of green marketing i.e.: green logo, green theme, green advertisement, green packaging etc. Here the researcher has tried utmost to find the relationship between the green marketing of BP and consumers’ loyalty and repeat purchase decisions which showed that significant relationship between these variables prevails. All of the variables of green marketing are positively correlated with the purchasing decision of the consumers of oil and gas shown by the researcher. The researcher has also suggested some approaches which can help British Petroleum to reshape their strategy towards green marketing provided that other companies related to the same business bracket can also be beneficial. Therefore findings of this research suggests that companies should be more holistic in their approaches of marketing to grab customers’ attention as people are becoming more conscious about ecological health.

This is an add-on follow-up study to the Green Games Changers initiative from WWF-UK. A Delphi panel of experts from major business, E-NGOs and academia were selected and answered a questionnaire to ascertain which initiatives, projects or frameworks had the most potential to effect major, systems change. An in-depth case study was performed in each of the five selected initiatives.

This  Dissertation deals with the privacy issue in Indian perspective with respect to challenges in three different dimensions like Legal, Technical and Corporate domain. We have proposed framework to deal with these challenges. Advancement in technology such as Mobility (Geographic Knowledge Discovery), Data Mining, Cloud computing etc. brings unforeseen challenges and one of the major challenges is threat to “privacy”. Today we can access any information related to anyone from anywhere at any time but this arise a new threat to private and confidential information. Globalization has given acceptance of technology in the whole world, as per growing requirement different countries has introduced different legal framework like DPA (Data Protection Act)1998 UK, ECPA(Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986) USA etc. from time to time ,but in India there is no such comprehensive legal framework that deals with privacy issue. To handle major cyber challenges we refer ITA Act 2008 that was built with the motivation to facilitate e-commerce and hence the privacy was not prior concern in IT act.This suggestive framework provides comprehensive solution as per present and future requirements of privacy in Indian scenario. As rightly said “true power of any law lies on its ability and ease of enforcement”.
