Photovoltaic (PV) cell from solar energy is one of the most widely adopted renewable energy source and commercially available system that can be used in various applications. More appealing application of PV arrays used in thermoelectric (TE) device was it can convert solar thermal energy from temperature difference into electric energy to act as power generators. In this study, a theoretical model is developed by using conducting steady state energy analysis of a PVT-TE air collector. The matrix inversion method is used to obtain energy balance equation. The effect of various parameters also investigated. The mass flow rate of range 0.01 kg/s to 0.05 kg/s and solar intensity of 400 W/m2, 600 W/m2 and 800 W/m2 was used to obtain outlet temperature, To in the range about 28.9oC to 43.7oC and PV temperature, Tp about 35.3oC to 60oC.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has limited treatment options; long-term outcomes following intra-arterial radiation are unknown. We assessed clinical outcomes of patients treated with intra-arterial yttrium-90 microspheres (Y90).Patients with HCC (n = 291) were treated with Y90 as part of a single-center, prospective, longitudinal cohort study. Toxicities were recorded using the Common Terminology Criteria version 3.0. Response rate and time to progression (TTP) were determined using World Health Organization (WHO) and European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) guidelines. Survival by stage was assessed. Univariate/multivariate analyses were performed.A total of 526 treatments were administered (mean, 1.8; range, 1–5). Toxicities included fatigue (57%), pain (23%), and nausea/vomiting (20%); 19% exhibited grade 3/4 bilirubin toxicity. The 30-day mortality rate was 3%. Response rates were 42% and 57% based on WHO and EASL criteria, respectively. The overall TTP was 7.9 months (95% confidence interval, 6–10.3). Survival times differed between patients with Child–Pugh A and B disease (A, 17.2 months; B, 7.7 months; P = .002). Patients with Child–Pugh B disease who had portal vein thrombosis (PVT) survived 5.6 months (95% confidence interval, 4.5–6.7). Baseline age; sex; performance status; presence of portal hypertension; tumor distribution; levels of bilirubin, albumin, and α-fetoprotein; and WHO/EASL response rate predicted survival.Patients with Child–Pugh A disease, with or without PVT, benefited most from treatment. Patients with Child–Pugh B disease who had PVT had poor outcomes. TTP and overall survival varied by patient stage at baseline. These data can be used to design future Y90 trials and to describe Y90 as a potential treatment option for patients with HCC.

Consumption beyond homeostatic needs, referred to here as reward-based feeding behavior, is a central contributor to the current obesity epidemic worldwide. Importantly, reward-based feeding can be driven by palatability, the taste and texture of the food, as well as cues associated with the consumption of palatable foods. The hypothalamic orexin system regulates both diet preference and anticipation of food rewards making it a likely target to modulate reward-based feeding behavior. In the current manuscript we hypothesized that orexin signaling mediates food-motivated behaviors and reward-based feeding behavior. We further hypothesized that orexin neurons and targets of the orexin system become activated in response to cues associated with the consumption of palatable food. An experimental procedure is presented to describe the PVT behavior of multiphase polymeric materials in a wide range of cooling rates. In particular, the procedure is applied to a typical multiphase industrial polymer, that is, an industrial polypropylene–ethylene-propylene rubber (iPP–EPR) copolymer with a small percentage of talc. The volume evolution is described combining specific volumes of different phases present in the material. All phases are described simply by thermal expansion and compressibility coefficients drawn either from the literature or from low and high temperature (i.e., below and above the iPP crystallization range) standard PVT data. Crystallization evolution of iPP is described by the Nakamura nonisothermal formulation of the Avrami–Evans crystallization kinetic model. Model parameters are identified by comparison with both standard calorimetric results and final densities of thin samples solidified during quenches conducted with cooling rates of several hundreds of K/s. It is also shown that identification of crystallization kinetic parameters by means of calorimetric data only leads to misleading results for cooling rates larger than those adopted in the calorimetric tests. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Despite limited recommendations for using sodium bicarbonate (SB) during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), we hypothesized that SB continues to be used frequently during pediatric in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) and that its use varies by hospital-specific, patient-specific, and event-specific characteristics. We analyzed 3719 pediatric (<18 years) index pulseless CPR events from the American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines-Resuscitation database from 1/2000 to 9/2010. SB was used in 2536 (68%) of 3719 CPR events. Incidence of SB use between 2000 and 2005 vs. 2006 and 2010 was 71.1% vs. 66.2% (P=0.002). The primary outcome was survival to discharge. Secondary outcomes included 24-h survival and neurologic outcome. Multivariable logistic regression analyzed the association between SB use and outcomes. Vascular complications following hepato-pancreatic biliary surgery can be devastating, and therefore precaution of them must be critical. We report two cases in which the pedicled omental transposition flap might be effective to avoid postoperative venous complications following major hepatectomy. Case 1 is a 80-year-old male who required to perform re-laparotomy at postoperative day 1 following major hepatectomy due to acute portal venous thrombosis (PVT). In the second surgery, the main trunk of PV was occluded by thrombus resulted from its redundancy and kinking. PV was resected with an adequate length and reconstructed. 4H-SiC single crystals grown by the seeded physical vapour transport method have been investigated. These crystals were grown on 6H-SiC seeds. The influence of the seed temperature, form and granulation of SiC source materials on the stability and efficiency of the 4H polytype growth have been investigated. A new way of the seed mounting - with an open backside - has been used. Crystals obtained were free of structural defects in the form of hexagonal voids. The crystalline structure of SiC crystals was investigated by EBSD (Electron Backscatter Diffraction) and X-Ray diffraction methods. Moreover, defects in crystals and wafers cut from these crystals were examined by optical, scanning electron and atomic force microscopy combined with KOH etching.
