PANTELLERIAN WARE AND ITS CIRCULATION IN LATE ROMAN TIME
This research concerning the cooking pottery production in late roman time in the Island of Pantelleria, located in the Sicily Channel. This coarse ware consisted in pans, pots, casseroles and lids and large jars, useful to cook food and other raw materials as bitumen and pitch. This high refractoriness is given to the ceramic mixture by the vulcanic minerals peculiars form the clay of the island. The archaeological excavations conducted until now, discovered the ruins of a large settlement in the Scauri Bay placed in the S-W coast of the island, datable from the second half of the IV to the end of the V century. The village based its economical activity on the cooking pottery production and its export, as evidenced by the shipwreck in the harbor of Scauri. The pottery materials found in the site and in the shipwreck, come from reliable contexts and it has been helpful to a thorough tipological and chronological study of this local ware production. The analysis of the attestations in the Central and Western Mediterranean, through the bibliography and some unpublished datas from Sicily, led to create some circulation maps across the centuries. This has allowed me to make some considerations and conclusions. It has been possible to realize a diachronic study, to distinguish forms and types from the III cent. B.C. to the V cent. A.D.. The pottery had a wide circulation in the Mediterranean, mostly from the second half of the IV to the beginning of the VI century

This paper focuses on the study of a set of pottery from Workshop 1 of the port vicus of Tróia. In this project, i emphasize this dynamic attributed to the period of the Late Roman and Late Antique period, until the mid-fifth century and the beginning of the early sixth century, according to the materials collected from the context of abandonment (UE [535]) of Workshop 1. The present set, besides the amphorae, is formed by a homogeneous group of coarse ware pottery, with emphasis on the presence of Pantelleria pottery, which is not well documented in Portuguese territory.

This paper deals with the first preliminary study of kitchen and cooking wares acquired during four seasons of excavations at the Akrai site (modern Palazzolo Acreide).
Earlier research in Akrai involved excavating architectural remains, mainly buildings of a public nature, such as a theatre, a bouleuterion, an agora and a necropolis. However, the retrieved objects of material culture, including ceramics, have so far not been the focus of any studies or publications. Following the completion of four seasons of research conducted by the Polish mission within the area of the “Roman insula”, it is possible to present the first results of the studies done concerning this category of objects.
Archaeological excavations (on-site research) in Akrai began in 2011. The first two excavation seasons (2011-2012), as well as part of the 2013 season, were focused on removing modern accumulations and ancient destruction levels. As a result, the general presentation of the ceramics, including kitchen and cooking wares, is primarily based on material collected during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Despite the fact that the majority of the ceramic material was found in mixed contexts, mainly levelling areas and levels, the collection allows us to present a general profile of the studied assemblage and propose an initial classification of the kitchen and cooking wares.
