In the summer of 2018, in the context of the Joint Project Fresco, an international team studied the Pisanello wall paintings in the Palazzo Ducale Museum Complex in Mantua with diagnostic methodology. The collected data allowed us to study the artist’s painting technique, both refined and innovative. The painting, which was never completed, combined fresco and secco techniques and was an attempt to appear as a triumph of light. Thanks to the diagnostic results it was possible to reconstruct some details of the painting as they were thought by Pisanello.
