There are not few characters whose actions or works in times of Priscillian, after his death or even until the middle of the seventh century left patent their disaffection by the famous Avila bishop and his followers. In this paper we chronologically analyze the anti-priscilianism history from the first news known -the complain of Bishop Hyginus from Cordoba-, up to the disdain towards the movement expressed by Braulius from Zaragoza in his letter to Fructuosus from Braga, when priscilianism was already just a memory.

Following the enactment of Gratian’s rescript, Priscillianists were expelled from the episcopal sees they had so eagerly achieved. Given the seriousness of their situation, they decided to march to Rome in the hope that, by presenting themselves in person before the Pope Damaso, they could reverse the position they were in. Although Sulpicius Severus’s account provides little information about the route followed by the Priscillianists, we believe that it is possible to offer a plausible reconstruction of the path that led Priscillian and his companions to the Eternal City. In this task, we will take account of every source traditionally employed for the study of Priscillianism, as well as information provided by the main itineraria known in Roman times. [Author]

In 385 AD, Augusta Treverorum bore witness to the trial of Priscillian and a number of his followers. The cruel sentence failed to have the deterrent effect that the most fanatical representatives of Christian orthodoxy had expected: at that time a profound schism was affecting the churches of Hispania.
It was at this time when Gallaecia became especially significant for the followers of the unfortunate Abulae episcopus, becoming the main bastion of Priscillianism in the known world. In this paper we explore the theories expounded by researchers to explain this unique phenomenon, scrutinising the available sources, analysing the known archaeological evidence that remains in modern-day Galicia, and finally we will present our own interpretation of the reasons that allowed Priscillianism to spread throughout Gallaecia in the latter part of the fourth century AD.

Todos eles coinciden na problemática do procesamento.
