O relatório estrutura-se em três partes: “1- Conceitos e Definições”, “2- Levantamento dos Empreendimentos Existentes na Grande Lisboa” e “3- Estudos de Caso”.

Na primeira parte pretende-se enquadrar o tema, bem como todo o léxico técnico a ele associado, quer a nível nacional quer internacional. De facto a profusão de denominações e variantes usadas para designar o mesmo tipo de alojamento e serviços associados corresponde sobretudo a questões de marketing que dificultam no entanto a sua análise e comparação. Isto deve-se muito ao facto das residências assistidas serem um modelo habitacional recente em Portugal (e internacionalmente), ainda em processo de configuração tipológica e funcional, sem tradição estabilizada nem regulamentação de enquadramento.

Na segunda parte, pretendemos inventariar todos os empreendimentos existentes na área da Grande Lisboa, por forma a traçar um cenário da realidade deste tipo de habitação. Optámos por esta delimitação territorial para confinar o tema à área geográfica prevista no plano de tese de Doutoramento, bem como por razões operacionais. De facto, a Grande Lisboa, ao constituir em termos de administração territorial estatística uma NUTSIII  formada por 8 concelhos (Amadora, Cascais, Lisboa, Loures, Mafra, Odivelas, Sintra e Vila Franca de Xira) numa área total de 1381 km2, agrega informação técnica e estatística suficiente para permitir um panorama diversificado e abrangente do tema .

A terceira e última parte resulta da análise do “Levantamento”, pelo que seleccionámos três empreendimentos para “Estudos de Caso”, aplicando-lhes uma análise espacio-funcional mais detalhada. Enquanto exemplos representativos da diversidade tipológica (arquitectónica e funcional) patente nas fichas da segunda parte, pretende-se demonstrar que a grelha de análise aplicada a estes três empreendimentos seria passível de utilização nos restantes.

Purpose – This paper aims to identify the critical issues to be considered by developers and practitioners when embarking on their first green residential retirement project in Australia. With an increasingly ageing population and widespread acceptance of the need for sustainable development in Australia, the demand for green retirement villages is increasing.
Design/methodology/approach – In view of the lack of adequate historical data for quantitative analysis, a case study approach is used to examine the successful delivery of green retirement villages. Face-to-face interviews and document analyses were conducted for data collection.
Findings – The findings of the study indicate that one of the major obstacles to the provision of affordable green retirement villages is the higher initial costs involved. However, positive aspects were identified, the most significant of which relate to the innovative design of site and floor plans; adoption of thermally efficient building materials; orientation of windows; installation of water harvesting and recycling systems, water conservation fittings and appliances; and waste management during the construction stage. With the adoption of these measures, it is believed that sustainable retirement development can be achieved without significant additional capital costs.
Practical implications – The research findings serve as a guide for developers in decision-making throughout the project life-cycle when introducing green features into the provision of affordable retirement accommodation. Originality/value – This paper provides insights into the means by which affordable green residential retirement projects for aged people can be successfully completed.

There is a growing demand for sustainable retirement villages in Australia due to an increasing number of ageing population and public acceptance of sustainable development. This research aims to gain a better understanding of retirees' understanding about sustainable retirement living and their attitudes towards sustainable developments via a questionnaire survey approach. The results showed that the current residents of retirement villages are generally very conscious of unsustainable resource consumption and would like their residences and community to be more environmentally friendly and energy efficient. The cost of energy supply is a concern to majority of respondents. However there is a certain level of concerns from residents too on the extra cost of going green in their residence. Education is required to residents about recycling household waste and how to use available facilities. A better understanding of retirees' awareness and attitudes towards sustainability issues helps to improve the sustainable developments of retirement villages in the future.

RESUMEN
El envejecimiento y la urbanización de la población son dos tendencias que caracterizan el siglo XXI. “A medida que las ciudades
crecen, sus proporciones de residentes de 60 años de edad y más va en aumento”.
Hace cuatro décadas atrás, se creía que la longevidad estaba determinada por factores genéticos. Hoy sabemos que la propensión
a desarrollar patologías relacionadas con la edad y la calidad de vida de la población que envejece está sujeta a las múltiples
negociaciones que se establecen entre los heterogéneos sujetos y sus entornos.
Inicialmente una vivienda satisfactoria es uno de los más importantes componentes de la calidad de vida para este colectivo;
pero para mantener la autonomía residencial, las personas mayores necesitan la posibilidad de acceder y participar de diferentes
dispositivos distribuidos en el territorio.
Por esto, el presente trabajo analiza el fenómeno del envejecimiento poblacional a través de la relación de las personas mayores
con su entorno en diferentes escalas territoriales. Se exponen resultados de estudios de campo de tipo cualitativo profundizando
en la relación entre la vivienda y el entorno urbano; a nivel barrial, se ha relevado el área céntrica de la ciudad de Mar del Plata en
función de categorías planteadas desde la Guía de ciudades amigables; y a escala ciudad, las diferencias territoriales en función de
análisis de datos estadísticos georreferenciados.
Estos estudios permiten entender las diferencias socio espaciales del envejecimiento y enmarcar estrategias diferenciadas que
permitan la igualdad de oportunidades para que las personas envejezcan positivamente.
ABSTRACT
The aging and urbanization of the population are two tendencies that characterizes the twenty-first century. “As cities grow, their
proportions of residents 60 years and older is increasing.”
Four decades ago, it was thought that longevity was determined by genetic factors. Today we know that propensity to develop
age-related diseases age and quality of life of the aging population depends on multiple negotiations established between heterogeneous
individuals and their environments.
Initially, one of the most important components of quality of life for this group is a satisfactory housing, but for maintaining the
residential autonomy, older people need the opportunity to access and participate in different devices spread in the territory.
That is why this study examines the aging of the population through ratio of older people with their environment at different territorial
scales.
Are exposed: results from field studies of a qualitative type inquiring about housing and the immediate environment; it has
gathered at the neighborhood level the downtown city area information according to categories raised by The Guide from Friendly
Cities; the territorial differences at the city level were studied by analysis of geo-referenced statistical data.
These studies help understand socio-spatial differences of aging and framing differentiated strategies that allow equal opportunities
for people get older positively.

Australia is experiencing the global phenomenon of an ageing population with the baby boomer generation starting to reach retirement age in large numbers. As a result, there is a growing need for appropriate accommodation and this will continue to grow for the foreseeable future. However, the needs of the fit, mobile and techno savvy baby boomers are likely to be far different from those of previous generations of older people, but are as yet unknown and unanticipated. This paper reports on the findings of a Futuring research project to explore the preferred housing futures for the baby boomer generation in the city of Brisbane, an aspiring creative city in South East Queensland (SEQ), Australia. The purpose of this article is to introduce a theoretical model for an aging-in-place housing specialist for those living in congregate housing facilities. A "needs assessment" tool is outlined to help facilitate the successful implementation of a Health and Aging Residential Service Coordinator (HARSC), both from a research perspective and from implementation of training curriculum for this specialized population. A model that provides both on-and off-site services is hypothesized to be most effective.

What do you get when an abundant demographic cohort hits the 65-year mark? A wave of baby boomers retiring in excess, to the tune of 10,000 men and women a day.

That may seem like a big number, but it's accurate, according to Pew Research and the Social Security Administration. The question is: Are Americans prepared to live comfortably post-retirement? And perhaps more importantly, is the health-care industry ready for the associated medical burden?

The aim of this paper is to broaden the debate on housing for the elderly beyond the mere economic perspective of public policy that analyses the sustainability of an integrated management between health-care services and housing solutions. Housing is a crucial issue for everyone since housing satisfaction affects the quality of life. Adequate housing is prerequisite to enjoy other human rights, and this becomes even more important with regard to old people who feel house as expression of themselves, the place where they belong to and where to get successfully and actively old.
In the wake of some studies about the implementation of capabilities in social policies, this article would investigate the opportunity to conceptualise house as a vector for strengthening human capabilities of older people. Actually, Nussbaum’s approach to capabilities can be used as a valid measurement for analysing in depth the relationship between environment, well-being and flourishing worthy life.
Following a growing literature about co-housing experiences for the elderly as sustainable way of living for ageing well and active, two Italian projects, Casa alla Vela in Trento and Casa di Giorgio in Rome, have been analysed in order to explore the meaning of house as a combined capability. The main expected results are how home is important for the elderly in many different ways: it is the place where independence, participation, care, self-fulfilment, and dignity are safeguarded and improved. It is the enabling environment allowing opportunities’ space that makes people able to access to the community.

Indications are that when it comes to retirement, small-business owners have good intentions, but the follow-through on their plans often leaves something to be desired.

Entrepreneur.com cites a Wells Fargo/Gallup study showing that 82 percent of such owners are currently saving or investing money toward retirement, and that 76 percent believe they will have enough to live comfortably when they transition into that phase of life.
