Silage Microbiology

Gut microflora in poultry acts in diversified manners to make the bird healthy, economical.
Antibiotics and stress  conditions will make imbalance of the gut microflora.
To keep good healthy microflora in the entire G.I. tract new strains and new type of deliveries are essential.
PROGUT_POULTRY is one such effort.

Fresh green rice straw of Sakha 101 variety treated for silage making with Lactobacillus sp. (lactic acid bacteria, LAB) and Cellulomonas sp. (cellulolytic bacteria, CB) as follows, 1) Control, without bacterial inoculants. 2) Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) at 108 cfu/g. 3) Cellulolytic bacteria (CB) at 108 cfu/g. 4) LAB+CB at 108 cfu/g per type of bacteria. The different treatments were supplemented with or without 5% molasses and ensiled for 60 days.. 
The mixture of  LAB+CB with molasses supplementation to fresh green rice straw showed significantly (P<0.05) the highest lactic acid and TVFA's concentrations and also the higher percentages of  lactic, acetic and propionic acids and the lower pH value, NH3-N concentration and the percentages of iso-butyric and butyric acids.
Chemical composition of the different silage treatments showed that CP, EE and NFE increased significantly (P<0.05), while CF content decreased significantly (P<0.05) with bacterial inoculants. The LAB+CB treatment with molasses showed significantly (P<0.05) the highest CP, EE, NFE and non structure carbohydrates (NSC) and the lowest CF, NDF, ADF, ADL, cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, however, the control treatment had the opposite trend. Molasses supplementation to rice straw silage significantly increased (P<0.05) DM, CP and NFE and significantly decreased (P<0.05) CF.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition and the fermentative parameters of heart of palm waste produced from Alexander Palm, ensiled with chemical additives. Treatments consisted of silage of the sheath with or without calcium oxide. In the silage without calcium oxide, we evaluated the control silage (without additive) and the silage enriched with 5.0 g kg −1 urea (urea). In the silage with calcium oxide, we evaluated the silage enriched with 5.0 g kg −1 calcium oxide (control) and the silage enriched with 5.0 g kg −1 urea and 5.0 g kg −1 calcium oxide (urea). Experimental silos were distributed in a completely randomized design in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement (inclusion or lack of lime × inclusion or lack of urea), with four replicates. Crude protein concentration was greater in the silages that received urea, whereas in the case of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber, the lowest levels were found in the control silage. Control silage had the lowest pH (3.75) and the silages that received lime displayed the lowest lactic acid content. Effluent losses were greater in the control silage and in the silage with lime (56.1 kg t −1 and 58.4 kg t −1 , respectively). Silages prepared with waste from heart of palm production and enriched only with urea showed a better chemical composition and improved fermentation parameter estimates. We recommend the use of this waste only with additives that can improve the chemical characteristics of the forage. Without additives, unwanted fermentation processes may occur and compromise the quality of the silage.
