The first European ride-share mission will be carried out by the Vega launch system in September 2019. The VEGA PoC (Proof of Concept) flight using the SSMS (Small Satellite Mission Service) hardware was conceived in the context of ESA LLL Initiative. This paper reports on the highlights of the preparation of the first European rideshare mission with Vega launcher and on the development of the related launch system. Based on Vega flights accumulated experience, the development of multi-Payload mission concept started from analysis of the activities currently foreseen to fly a single payload mission adapted to the needs of multi payload rideshare missions. After evaluation of impacts in terms of technical feasibility, missioning schedule and related programmatic and cost elements for the missioning of the Light Sats launch service, the implementation phase was initiated and description of its major tasks is the focus of this paper. VOSpec is a multi-wavelength spectral analysis tool developed by the ESA Virtual Observatory Team. The tool is able to handle spectra in the VO context as well as providing analysis capabilities and easy integration of spectra coming from different data providers, wavelengths and different metadata. Since its first development from a very simple interface, VOSpec has gone through a series of changes and evolutions converting it into a fully functional Analysis tool for VO data. This paper gives an overview of the VOSpec tool, together with the latest available functionalities.

Three separate scenarios of an electrodynamic tether mission at Jupiter following capture of a spacecraft (SC) into an equatorial, highly elliptical orbit around the planet, with perijove at about 1.5 times the Jovian radius, are discussed. Repeated application of Lorentz drag on the spinning tether, at the perijove vicinity, can progressively lower the apojove. One mission involves the tethered-SC rapidly and frequently visiting Galilean moons; elliptical orbits with apojove down at the Ganymede, Europa, and Io orbits are in 2:5, 4:9, and 1:2 resonances with the respective moons. About 20 slow flybys of Io would take place before the accumulated radiation dose exceeds 3 Mrad (Si) at 10 mm Al shield thickness, with a total duration of 5 months after capture (4 months for lowering the apojove to Io and one month for the flybys). Despite Eddington's characterisation of classical theory as symmetrical, Newtonian physics was time-asymmetrical, and time-asymmetry is also required for gravitomagnetism, relativistic gravitation and general relativity. Gravitational wave behaviour also requires thermal systems to be constantly radiating away energy, breaking Einstein's energy-accounting, and creating a thermodynamic bias towards exothermicity in forward time. Feynman's statistical arguments are discussed.

This study develops a vision-based detection and classification algorithm to address the challenges of in-situ small orbital debris environment classification, including debris observability and instrument requirements for small debris observation. The algorithm operates in near real-time and is robust under challenging tasks in moving objects classification such as multiple moving objects, objects with various movement trajectories and speeds, very small or faint objects, and substantial background motion. The performance of the algorithm is optimized and validated using space image data available through simulated environments generated using NASA Marshall Space Flight Centers Dynamic Star Field Simulator of on-board optical sensors and cameras.

We present a new search for dark matter (DM) using planetary atmospheres. We point out that annihilating DM in planets can produce ionizing radiation, which can lead to excess production of ionospheric H þ 3. We apply this search strategy to the night side of Jupiter near the equator. The night side has zero solar irradiation, and low latitudes are sufficiently far from ionizing auroras, leading to a lowbackground search. We use Cassini data on ionospheric H þ 3 emission collected three hours either side of Jovian midnight, during its flyby in 2000, and set novel constraints on the DM-nucleon scattering cross section down to about 10 −38 cm 2. We also highlight that DM atmospheric ionization may be detected in Jovian exoplanets using future high-precision measurements of planetary spectra.

Nela ha o estudo sobre a poesia de Jesus Barros Boquady, poeta Cearense e Goiano, que produziu um livro em forma de epopeia, cujos poemas relatam a formacao espacial de Goiânia, desde o seu sentido mitico, historico e social, na configuracao da formas e funcoes da cidade, tendo nesse processo a estruturacao de desigualdades e modos diferentes de habitar e narrar a nova capital do Estado de Goias, naquele momento historico.

To characterise statistical inference in the workplace this paper compares a prototypical type of statistical inference at work, statistical process control (SPC), with a type of statistical inference that is better known in educational settings, hypothesis testing. Although there are some similarities between the reasoning structure involved in hypothesis testing and SPC that point to key characteristics of statistical inference in general, there are also crucial differences. These come to the fore when we characterise statistical inference within what we call a “space of reasons” – a conglomerate of reasons and implications, evidence and conclusions, causes and effects. Control algorithms for the active magnetic attitude control systems are covered in the survey. Three different situations in the magnetic system implementation are considered. First, angular velocity damping is covered. Second part is devoted to the combined operation of the active magnetic system with other actuators and with the help of some passive stabilization concepts. Magnetic control torque is restricted in its direction, as it cannot be implemented along the geomagnetic induction vector. This restriction may be lifted by enhancing the active magnetic attitude control with other actuators and concepts. This comes at the cost of restrictions on the available attitude modes of the satellites. Namely, passive gravity-gradient stabilization provides the nadir pointing; bias momentum satellites are restricted by the wheel axis pointing along the orbital normal; spin stabilized satellites acquire only one axis attitude. Finally, solely three-axis magnetic attitude control is considered. Different approaches to the control torque restriction problem are covered, with distinction between the local feedback laws and optimization methods. The survey does not cover passive magnetic control concepts and auxiliary role in the reaction wheels momentum unload. Comparison of the covered algorithms is provided to highlight the authors' opinion on the algorithms modern implementation and further research directions.

The tomb is well known for the data it provides on the leading families of the priests of Amun in the 20th Dynasty. In addition to its genealogical data, this book presents the tomb TT 148's extensive religious and ritual scenes and inscriptions as well as its architecture.
