Transaction Processing

The concept of a digital ecosystem (DE) has been used to explore scenarios in which multiple online services and resources can be accessed by users without there being a single point of control. In previous work we have described how the so-called transaction languages can express concurrent and distributed interactions between online services in a transactional environment. In this paper we outline how transaction languages capture the history of a long-running transaction and highlight the benefits of our true-concurrent approach in the context of DEs. This includes support for the recovery of a long-running transaction whenever some failure is encountered. We introduce an animation tool that has been developed to explore the behaviours of long-running transactions within our modelling environment. Further, we discuss how this work supports the declarative approach to the development of open distributed applications.

Education encompasses our lives and as the foundation of our society, it has importance that cannot be overlooked at. Student admission momentous role in the activities of any school because, no students, no school. Inefficient admission system reduces the number of efficient students in the school due to its speed, delay and integrity. The numerous benefits of digitalization have made applying for admission these days to be computerized such that a prospective student uses the web to apply. But the processes of admitting a student that applied aren’t digitalized. Those applications are humanly screened and not digitally screen. Online admission system will not only accept applications from prospective students but, the received applications will be screened digitally and humanly. The human screen rules will be automated to enable the digital screening of applications to know the fulfillment of the requirement by each applicant. This research system, ONLINE STUDENT ADMISSION SYSTEM FOR FEDERAL UNITY COLLEGES adopts the Dynamic System Development Methodology (DSDM) and is designed with VB.net (HTML and ASP.net) and SQL as the languages for the interface design and the database design respectively. The IDEs used are Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server Management Studio 2008 both of Microsoft Cooperation. Adobe Photoshop CS5 was used for the graphics design.

We developed a model of the adoption of business process outsourcing (BPO) based on risk–benefit analysis. The model was tested in the German banking industry in four areas of transaction processing. Our results showed that, in general, perceived BPO benefits have a substantially stronger impact on intention to increase the level of BPO than perceived risks. However, the experience that banks have with the BPO process, [whether already decided on BPO (Pro), still in the pre-decision phase (Neutral), or opted against BPO (Contra)], moderated the impact of factors affecting the perceived risks and benefits of BPO. Banks that opted for BPO were mostly driven by a desire to focus on their core business while considering financial risks. Banks in the neutral position had the most balanced view of risks and benefits, mainly financial and performance ones, and also focusing on the core business and increased business process performance. Those banks that decided against BPO mostly focused on benefits while the perceived risks were mostly formed by strategic and performance risks rather than financial ones. The results point out the path dependencies of the BPO decision.
