El estudio, se realizó en el caserío pimienta cocha, en el distrito de Campo Verde, Provincia de Coronel Portillo, Región Ucayali – Perú, la duración del estudio fue de 12 meses iniciándose en abril del 2005, culminando en abril del 2006; tuvo como objetivo: Determinar el sistema de establecimiento, más adecuado en plantaciones de pimienta Piper nigrum a través del uso de dos especies de tutores vivos (Bolaina blanca y Tahuarí), y compararlos con tutores muertos de quinilla.
Se usó un diseño experimental completamente al azar (DCA) con 03 tratamientos y 12 repeticiones, en el cultivo de pimenta se evaluaron el número de brotes y el porcentaje de prendimiento cada 30 días; en el caso del análisis económico, se hizo una encuesta a los agricultores.
Los resultados en el primer año de establecimiento en lo que respecta al porcentaje de prendimiento, muestra que no existe diferencia significativa, teniendo como conclusión que la pimienta no muestra respuesta alguna a la asociación con especies vivos de bolaina y tahuarí en etapa de establecimiento.
En la evaluación económica, la asociación dee tahuarí/pimienta, en el primer año de establecimiento es más económico con S/. 8,837.53/ha. En comparación con bolaina/pimienta la que fue de S/. 10,212.31/ha y de S/. 14,138.20/ha con el sistema convencional.

Las comunidades Asháninkas de Aerija y Sapani tienen sus territorios comunales en el Alto Ucayali, donde albergan recursos naturales y culturales y el mayor atractivo turístico de Atalaya, la quebrada Sapani (CC.NN.Sapani). Todos los recursos que albergan pueden aportar un mayor beneficio a las comunidades desde un aprovechamiento sostenible, como lo hace el turismo bien regulado.
Para ello, se inició por estudiar el territorio: especies, zonas de vida, tipo de bosque, sitios naturales que podrían ser aprovechados turísticamente, y características sociales y culturales de ambas comunidades. Luego se analizó el estado de la situación turística en las comunidades: teniendo Aerija un 45% de aceptación turística y Sapani 8%; los impactos de la actividad turística y las acciones que se deben tomar ante el turismo desordenado actual, entre las más importantes está delimitar la zona turística y establecer un reglamento de conducta de visitantes en Aerija y Sapani. Finalmente, se realizó un estudio de la oferta y demanda actual de la ciudad de Atalaya.
Se trata de un territorio vulnerable por la cercanía a la ciudad, el aprovechamiento maderable y el fácil acceso; donde habitan especies amenazadas (4 de ellas en peligro de extinción) y las comunidades perturbadas a causa del turismo desordenado. Sin embargo ambas comunidades nativas tienen bastante compromiso, expectativas claras del turismo y conocimiento del valor de su territorio, además del alto potencial turístico que puede ser desarrollado con programas paralelos de conservación de tortugas Taricaya y Cupiso (mediante un plan de manejo in-situ y monitoreo) y con programas de comercio justo de cacao, apoyadas por el volunturismo y el turismo científico (largo plazo). Toda esta propuesta podría ser aprovechada por el 67% de turistas que llegan por trabajo o por el más de 90% de atalaínos que se interesan por realizar turismo de naturaleza y turismo cultural

In the Peruvian Amazon, tobacco has a long history as a medicinal and magical agent. This becomes evident in names for healers or sorcerers in indigenous languages often connected to the use of tobacco (e.g. among the Matsiguenka, Asháninka, Yine), as well as in the techniques they apply for apprenticeship, curing or sorcery. The role of tobacco therefore is much more established in the region than the historically younger hallucinogen ayawaska. Among Shipibo-Konibo, for example, tobacco is a necessary prerequisite for obtaining the healer’s magical phlegm kenyon; stones with magical agency (inkanto) are ‘fed’ with tobacco; healers swallow tobacco (smoke or juice) for sucking treatments (oyoti), sorcerers blow smoke from previously magically charged pipes or cigarettes towards their victims, love magic works similarly. For all these actions and more, tobacco is necessary, but ayawaska is not.
A series of tobacco songs, or magical songs related to the use of tobacco are analysed in order to underline the fundamental historical importance of tobacco in the Ucayali valley of the Peruvian lowlands. Tobacco is a medium of communication and transformation, it is shared among humans and non-human entities, it is the carrier of love magic and it expands the songs which manifest as space in the spirit’s world. Notably, tobacco is always a medium and almost never a person. It seems to transcend, or undermine, the anthropomorphic basic of perspectivistic theory. In conclusion, it appears that the close association of tobacco with sorcery and warfare in former times clings to reciprocal ethics of illness and curing, while the more commercially oriented use of ayawaska in post-modern society seems detached from such reciprocity and represents the ‘good side’ of a probably Christian dichotomy, which explains the decline of tobacco-oriented magic in favour of ayawaska-based ‘shamanism’.

In order to evaluate the response camu camu’s plants in plantations initial undergoing training pruning, an experiment was installed in EE - IIAP-Ucayali, under a design randomized complete block, with 3 replications, making use of 20 plants per experimental unit. The pruning treatments were performing at different heights from the base of the stem, it was considered T0 [witness without pruning], T1 [pruning to 10 cm from the base], T2 [pruning to 20 cm from the base] and T3 [pruning to 40 cm from the base] in plants of known provenance. The investigation was directed to evaluate the number of shoots, shoot growth, plant height, basal diameter, crown diameter and number of branches. After of 9 months of evaluation was found significant differences between the variables except in top diameter. In the variable Height, treatment T0 [witness without pruning] outstanding because they were not pruned, among the remaining treatments has similarly behaved, surpassing the control treatment by 267 %. In addition to this, the basal diameter was found that T1 [pruning to 10 cm from the base] has a better performed with an average value of 1.96 cm compared with the control (1.7cm). The pruning had a positive influence in the number of branches, with an average of 13.4 branches compared with T0 that get 3.1 branches on average, its shows that the pruning can increased up the production of branches to 432.3%.

In the context of rapid climate change, the frequency and magnitude of environmental hazards in Amazonia are continually increasing. This study seeks to understand the lived realities of environmental hazards in the Peruvian Amazon, and in particular flooding, and how experiences are shaped by differential positionalities. The study draws upon data from the Peruvian Amazon Rural Livelihoods and Poverty Project community survey (n=919) and household survey (n=3,941), as well as interview (n=24) and survey (n=25) data collected during fieldwork in Éxito, a riverine village in the Department of Ucayali, Peru. The research findings indicate that flooding experience is highly determined by intersecting lines of difference at the individual, household and village levels; that fishing occupies several related yet contested roles within the village; and that given the positive and negative implications identified of four key flood types, we need to reconsider how we define environmental hazard in the Amazonian context.

Los indicadores del embarazo adolescente a nivel nacional aún se mantienen en cifras alarmantes, el «Estudio sociológico del embarazo adolescente en la región Ucayali: 2000-2012» analiza este fenómeno en dicha región. Tomando como punto de referencia estadística las encuestas demográficas de salud (ENDES) analizamos la evolución de dichos indicadores. Asimismo, el trabajo de campo realizado en establecimientos del MINSA de la ciudad de Pucallpa, nos permite llegar a conclusiones sobre las experiencias de vida de las adolescentes embarazadas.
