DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE OF THE BETRAYAL OF QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT 1942 BY SAVARKAR, SYAMA PRASAD MUKHERJEE & RSS

On the eve of 78th anniversary of the glorious Quit India Movement [QIM] we must evaluate the role of the Hindutva gang in India's anti-colonial freedom struggle. QIM also known as ‘August Kranti' (August Revolution) was a nation-wide Civil Disobedience Movement for which a call was given on August 7, 1942 by the Bombay session of the All-India Congress Committee. It was to begin on August 9 as per Gandhi's call to 'Do or Die' in his Quit India speech delivered in Mumbai at the Gowalia Tank Maidan on August 8. Since then August 9 is celebrated as August Kranti Divas.
The British swiftly responded with mass detentions on August 8th itself. Over 100,000 arrests were made which included the total top leadership of Congress including Gandhi, mass fines were levied and demonstrators were subjected to public flogging. Hundreds of civilians were killed in violence, many shot by the police and army. Many national leaders went underground and continued their struggle by broadcasting messages over clandestine radio stations, distributing pamphlets and establishing parallel governments. Innumerable patriotic Indians were shot dead for the crime that they were holding Tricolour publically. Even before that a terrible massacre took place in Mysore where the armed forces of Mysore Raja who was very close to Hindu Mahasabha and RSS shot dead 22 Congress activists for saluting Tricolour.
It is to be noted that after declaring Congress an anti-national and unlawful organization, the British masters allowed only Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League to function.
Most of us know that the then Communist Party of India opposed the QIM thus betraying a great phase of mass upsurge in the history of the freedom struggle. But it is well documented that despite CPI’s call for keeping aloof from QIM large number of Communist activists participated in it. Moreover, CPI later offered unconditional apology for opposing it. However, what role the then Hindutva camp—consisting of the Hindu Mahasabha and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh —played in the QIM is under wraps for reasons unknown. The Hindutva camp not only opposed QIM but also provided multi-faceted and multi-dimensional support to the British rulers in suppressing this historic mass upsurge. In this connection, shocking documents are available; these should be read to be believed.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) claims to be the greatest embodiment of nationalism in the country today. There has been a concerted attempt to market it as being synonymous with patriotism in India. It is also a fact, though, that the claims of the RSS in this regard have always been challenged by individuals and organizations who were in the thick of Freedom Movement. There is no dearth of writings exposing the negative role of the RSS during the Freedom Struggle. However, this booklet is an attempt to collect facts of the Freedom Movement era from the archives of the RSS itself. It has been the intention of the author that the documents of the RSS should speak for themselves. This booklet is surely going to disappoint those who believe that the RSS played any role in the Freedom Movement. They will hear from the horse’s mouth that not only was a silence maintained about the evils of foreign rule but all attempts were made to sabotage the united fight against British colonial rule.

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is glorified by the Hindutv camp as 'Veer' (brave) who fought for the freedom of India. This is in total disregard of historical facts. He started as a freedom fighter but once put in Cellular Jail he became a British stooge. He submitted not one mercy petition but FIVE begging release from the British masters. The texts of only 2 are available in the archives, about the rest 3 we find mention in Savarkar's 2 petitions presented here.
He was awarded a sentence of 50 years but was released after 10 years only. Despite ban on his political activities he was allowed to organize Hindu Mahasabha which preached Two-nation theory to the joy of the British rulers.

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar today shares national eminence with M. K. Gandhi; their portraits hang side by side on the walls of Indian Parliament. This is despite the fact that Sardar Patel, the first Home Minister of India, held Savarkar responsible for the murder of the Father of the Nation. In a letter, dated February 27, 1948, to Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India, Patel wrote: ‘It was a fanatical wing of the Hindu Mahasabha directly under Savarkar that hatched the conspiracy (to kill Mahatma) and saw it through.’

This book is the outcome of a sincere urge to separate facts from myths and present facts as they unfolded in the history of India’s Freedom Struggle. In order to know the real Savarkar, author has mainly relied on original documents available in the archives of Hindu Mahasabha, the RSS, the Government of India and the memoirs of revolutionaries who were in the Cellular Jail with Savarkar. These documents, astonishingly, show that he not only kept aloof from the Freedom Movement but also openly helped the British war efforts during the World War II at a time when Subhash Chandra Bose was trying to liberate India militarily. Savarkar remained a die-hard believer in Casteism, Racism and Imperialism throughout his life. He called it Hindutva. This book also evaluates the original 1923 edition of 'Hindutva' authored by Savarkar so that all those who cherish a democratic-secular India are able to understand the gravity of ideas which originated to undo India.

From the ancient periods, India is known for her compassion and respect for religions. This
respect towards religions had been based on the fact that India became the cradle of great religions such
as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism and welcomed Semitic religions like Christianity,
Judaism, and Islam. But the attitude of the nation has been changing from the 1980s. For a few decades
the newspapers and online media, report daily of atrocities in the name of religion and religious

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) promoted Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power
for the second consecutive time in the history of the nation. The diverse cultures and minority religions
of the nation face serious threats. The atrocities against the minority religions became a day to day affair.
Recently the enforcement of the Citizenship Amendment Act and the application of the National Register
of Citizens by the BJP government add to the atrocities. This agitation against minority religions owes
its foundations and roots in the ideology of Hindutva.
To understand the threats that the ruling government of India possesses to its citizens we should
know its ideological background. The RSS and the BJP owe its ideological upbringing to the ideologies
of V.D Savarkar and M.S Golwalkar. This study gives priorities to the ideology of Hindu nationalism of
both Savarkar and Golwalkar. In the first chapter, the concepts of nationalism and Hindu nationalism are
introduced. The second chapter presents the Hindu rastra concept of Savarkar that he envisioned through
the book Hindutva. The third chapter of the study looks into the Hindu nationalist ideology of Golwalkar
that he presents through his work We or Our Nationhood Defined. After sorting out the key themes of
the Hindu nationalism of Savarkar and Golwalkar the fourth chapter sheds light on this ideology with the
help of critical evaluation.

This book traces the history of Hindu nationalism with a special focus on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as its prominent flag bearer. Through an in-depth study of archival sources and more recent documents, the author challenges the claim of Hindu nationalism as being primordial. He argues that in addition to being a modern construct, it laid the foundation of Hindu separatism or a two-nation theory which was later adopted by Muslim separatists like Mohammed Ali Jinnah. This book describes the growth of Hindu nationalism and its appearance as Hindutva which glorifies Casteism, Racism and totalitarianism. This work also investigates how the book Hindutva authored by VD Savarkar (1923) and MS Golwalkar’s We or Our Nationhood Defined (1939) continue to determine the discourse of Hindu nationalism. The author has spent more than four decades collecting and scrutinizing original RSS documents from different parts of the country, especially the ones relating to pre-Independence India. These documents are the foundation for the direction which RSS was destined to take as a sectarian Hindu separatist organization opposed to democratic, secular and egalitarian ideals.

HINDUTVA: MYTHS AND REALITY
[This essay is in response to demand from friends across the globe to make available a concise primer on the toxic ideology of Hindutva based on its own archives for ready reference.]
Introduction
The term Hindutva took birth with the appearance of VD Savarkar's book titled Hindutva in 1923. Savarkar’s Hindutva was declared to be the Holy Book of Hindu Sangathan or organization. M. S. Golwalkar, who headed the RSS after K. B. Hedgewar, too regarded Savarkar’s Hindutva as a great scientific book which fulfilled the need of a text-book on Hindu nationalism.  According to a biography of founder of RSS, Hedgewar published by the RSS, “Savarkar’s inspiring and brilliant exposition of the concept of Hindutva marked by incontestable logic and clarity, struck the cord of Doctorji’s [Hedgewar’s] heart”.
Despite such statements glorifying Hindutva as priceless contribution in defence of Hindu nationalism, the contents of the book did not attract many Hindu leaders and remained beyond the comprehension of common Hindus. In fact, even the title of the book seemed to have been an afterthought. A perusal of the original edition (1923) will show that the booklet was printed with the title Hinduism but subsequently a separate piece of paper on which Hindutva was printed was pasted on the title page of the book. Since the term remained alien even to the Savarkarites, by the 4th edition Hindutva as title was dropped and it was published under a new title Who Is A Hindu? In 1963 Maharashtra Provincial Hindusabha published it as part of Savarkar’s collected works with the title Essentials of Hindutva. Another notable fact about this book was that it was published under the pen name ‘A Maratha’ signifying a regional identity of the author where as book stressed only the Hindu identity of the country and its inhabitants.
Savarkar admitted at the outset that the ‘term Hindutva defies all attempts at analysis’.  He began by trying to make a clear-cut distinction between his theory of Hindutva and religion Hinduism. But few pages later it became clear that Hindutva was nothing else but political Hinduism. According to his definition a Hindu
"is he who looks upon the land that extends from Sindhu to Sindhu, from the Indus to the Seas, as the land of his forefathers—his pitribhu, who inherits the blood of that race whose first discernible source could be traced to the Vedic Saptasindhs [seven holy rivers] and which on its onward march, assimilating much that was incorporated and ennobling much that was assimilated, has come to be known as the Hindu people, who has inherited and claims as his own the culture of that race as expressed chiefly in their common classical language Sanskrit and represented by a common history, a common literature, art and architecture, law and jurisprudence, rites and rituals, ceremonies and sacraments, fairs and festivals…These are the essentials of Hindutva—a common rashtra [nation] a common Jati [race] and a common Sanskriti [culture, though in latter editions it is translated as civilization].
According to Savarkar, these were the Hindus with Aryan blood who established the Hindu nation the day
"when the Horse of Victory returned to Ayodhya unchallenged and unchallengeable, the great white Umbrella of Sovereignty was unfurled over that, Imperial throne of Ramchandra the brave, Ramchandra the good, and a loving allegiance to him was sworn, not only by the Princes of the Aryan blood but Hanuman—Sugriva—Bibhishana from the south— that day was the real birth-day of our Hindu people." 
Savarkar’s book Hindutva was haphazard, confused, incoherent, monotonous, contradictory and repetitive in comparison to other works of Savarkar. In fact in Hindutva, propagated as the primer of the Hindu nationalism less than one quarter of the space was devoted to the theme. Major parts of the book contained repetitive discussions over the origin of nomenclature like Hindu/Hindusthan, folk literature, evils in Buddhism, how Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists were Hindus and description of perpetually continuously raging conflicts between Vedic and
non-Vedic sects in Hinduism.
The concept of Hindu Nation as elaborated in Hindutva remained a fringe thought despite the fact that Savarkar while presiding over the 19th session of Hindu Mahasabha at Ahmedabad in December 1937 declared it to be the goal of Hindu Mahasabha, there were not many takers for the book. The dismal reach of the book can be gauged by the fact that after the publication of its first edition in 1923, the second edition could appear only in 1942. With the last edition appearing in 2003, only seven editions of the book came out in more than eight decades.
However, with the ascendency of the RSS-BJP in the Indian parliamentary politics in late 1990s idolizing of Savarkar began. While renaming the Port Blair airport after V. D. Savarkar on May 4, 2002, the then Home Minister L. K. Advani declared that “Hindutva propounded by Savarkar was an all-encompassing ideology with its roots in the country’s heritage”. The glorification of the prophet of Hindutva did not stop there. On February 26, 2003, a portrait of Savarkar was unveiled at Parliament. Savarkar thus came to share the eminence accorded to Gandhi and other prominent leaders of the freedom struggle in the Central Hall of Parliament. However, we need to have a convincing answer to the question that if Savarkar with his eternal love for the two-nation theory and his conscious aloofness from the Indian freedom struggle can be glorified as an Indian nationalist and patriot, then who can stop Mohammed Ali Jinnah from claiming this status?
The present RSS-BJP rulers led by PM Modi keep on declaring publically that they are committed to usher India into a Savarkarite model of Hindu nation. We will evaluate the claims made on behalf of the flag-bearers of Hindutva in the following.

It is one of the ironies of human history that Hitler, who restored to Germany the pride the Treaty of Versailles robbed if off, and Gandhi, who inspired India to free itself from the British yoke, should’ve become the bane of their countries in the  long run. OPEN LETTER TO THE VICE-CHANCELLOR OF RASHTRASANT TUKADOJI MAHARAJ NAGPUR UNIVERSITY
Respected Vice-chancellor Dr. Siddharthavinayaka P. Kane Saheb,
I am writing this open letter to you on a critical issue concerning the contents of the syllabus at your University. As per a communiqué of the the University which must have had your concurrence, the history of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and its role in 'nation-building' have been included in the syllabus for in the second year BA (History) course. Surprisingly, it has been accommodated by removing a crucial topic, 'Rise and growth of communalism in India'. According to Mr. Satish Chafle, spokesperson the University it has been done to accommodate the "Nationalist school of thoughts".

There cannot be a bigger lie than this that RSS was ever an Indian nationalist organization or it played any nation-building role so far as our democratic-secular India is concerned. On the contrary, RSS since its birth in 1925 with its Hindutva allies like Hindu Mahasabha led by VD Savarkar worked overtime to betray the glorious anti-colonial freedom struggle, denigrated all symbols of national unity, belittled the martyrs, demanded promulgation of inhuman Manusmriti as constitution of India, decried democracy  and demanded conversion of democratic-secular polity into a Hindutva state. As if all this was not enough, the RSS idol and the Hindutva icon 'Veer' Savarkar led Hindu Mahasabha ran coalition governments with the Muslim League in 1942 and backstabbed Netaji when he was trying to liberate Indian militarily.

I trust you as an educationist and believe that you have stakes in finding the truth about RSS or any other organization. I am producing immensely disturbing facts about the ideology and practices of RSS from its own archives and no other source.

Hindutva brigade continues to pretend to have great admiration for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose who attempted to organise a military campaign to force the British out of India. But for unknown reasons the world remains oblivious of the terrible betrayal of his cause by Hindu Mahasabha under the leadership of Savarkar who also happened to be a mentor of the RSS. There is a mine of contemporary documents available to show that when Netaji during World War II was trying to secure foreign support for liberation of the country and trying to organise a military attack on the northeast of the country with the help of " Azad Hind Fauj " (Indian National Army), it was Savarkar who offered full military cooperation to the British masters. One needs to access the Hindu Mahasabha and RSS publications and documents of that period to know the shocking reality of the Hindutva gang turning into stooges of the British rulers against Netaji. This article reproduces the shocking facts from the Hindutva archives.

On December 30, last year, we were treated to the most unusual spectacle of the Prime Minister of India sitting on the floor or a cell of a jail, his legs crossed over each other, and his palms joined in prayer. He was, however, not praying to God — he was actually worshipping his guru, Veer Damodar Savarkar, who had once been imprisoned in this cell and his eyes were transfixed on his portrait that was propped up a few feet away.

वरिष्ठ आरएसएस नेता/रक्षा-मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह का गाँधी जी को अपमानित करने का एक शर्मनाक प्रयास।
हिन्दुत्वादी विशेषकर आरएसएस से जुड़े लोग गाँधी जी को अपमानित और ज़लील करने के लिए कोई भी अवसर नहीं गंवाते हैं। आरएसएस का जितना क़द्दावर नेता होता है उतनी ही ज़्यादा बदतमीज़ी से वह उन पर कीचड़ उछालता है। गाँधी जी को अपमानित करने की श्रंखला में नवीनतम बढ़-चढ़कर भागीदार बनकर आरएसएस के एक श्रेष्ठ स्वयंसेवक जो देश के रक्षा मंत्री भी हैं, राजनाथ सिंह सामने आये हैं।  उन्हों ने  सावरकर पर एक पुस्तक के विमोचन के एक आयोजन में जहाँ आरएसएस के सर्वसर्वा मोहन भगवत भी मौजूद थे यह ज्ञान साझा किया कि 'वीर' सावरकर ने जो माफ़ीनामे लिखे वे गांधीजी की सलाह पर लिखे गए थे। मज़े की बात यह है की सावरकर पर जिस किताब का विमोचन हो रहा था उस के लेखकों [उदय माहूरकर व चिरायु पंडित] ने इसी आयोजन में बताया कि उनकी किताब में ऐसा कोई ज़िक्र नहीं है!
बेहद चौंकाने वाली यह सूचना आरएसएस या हिन्दुत्वादी ख़ेमे दुवारा देश से पहली बार साझा की जा रही थी। आरएसएस और हिन्दू महासभा से जुड़े लोगों ने सावरकर के जीवन पर लगभग 7 प्राधिकृत जीवनियां लिखी हैं, सावरकर जो ख़ुद एक सफल लेखक थे और जिन्हों ने अपने जीवन के पल-पल का ब्यौरा अपनी लेखनी में पेश किया है और उनके सचिव ए एस भिड़े ने उनके हर रोज़ के कार्यकलापों का संग्रह संयोजित किया है, इन में से किसी में भी सावरकर के मफ़ीनामों में गांघीजी की भूमिका का कहीं भी ज़िक्र नहीं है।

विनायक दामोदर सावरकर ने 14 नवंबर, 1913 को सेलुलर जेल में व्यक्तिगत रूप से भारत में अंग्रेजी सरकार के गृह विभाग के सदस्य वायसराय के प्रतिनिधि रेजिनाल्ड क्रेडॉक (Reginald Henry Craddock) के समक्ष दया याचिका प्रस्तुत की थी। स्मरण रहे कि यह सावरकर की यह एकमात्र दया याचिका नहीं थी। अंडमान सेलुलर जेल से पहला, अंडमान सेल्युलर जेल आने के मात्र छह माह के भीतर 30 अगस्त 1911 का माफीनामा है। इसके बाद सावरकर ने 1913, 1914, 1918 और 1920 में कुल मिलाकर पांच दया याचिकाएं दी थीं। 'वीर' सावरकर के 19911, 1914 और 1918 के माफ़ीनामे अभिलेखागारों में उपलब्ध नहीं हैँ, हालांकि, खुद सावरकर ने अपने 1913 और 1920 के मफ़ीनामों में इनका ज़िक्र किया है।

SHAMELESS HYPOCRISY OF OUR HINDU NATIONALIST PM
Modi as a Hindu Nationalist
PM Modi is the only occupier of a constitutional post in the history of Independent India who declared himself to be a Hindu nationalist. He made this declaration in 2013 in an interview to two Reuters journalists, Ross Colvin and Sruthi Gottipati, on July 12 as CM of Gujarat.  Modi glorified his Hindu nationalist identity hiding the fact that the term ‘Hindu Nationalist’ originated in a specific historical context during India’s freedom struggle against the British colonial masters. This freedom struggle was mainly led by the Congress, which stood for an all-inclusive democratic-secular free India. The ‘Muslim Nationalists’, under the banner of the Muslim League, and the 'Hindu Nationalists', under the banners of the Hindu Mahasabha and the RSS, opposed it, claiming that Hindus and Muslims were two different nations. These Hindu and Muslim ‘Nationalists’ joined hands with the colonial masters in order to thwart the freedom struggle so that they could have theocratic states of their choice, ‘Hindusthan’ or Hindu Rashtra and Pakistan or Islamic state, respectively. Moreover, those Hindutva fanatics who assassinated MK Gandhi on January 30, 1948 also called themselves as Hindu nationalist.
Hindu Nationalist PM's Visit to Andamans & Nicobar Islands
Modi's commitment to Hindu nationalism keeps on motivating him to acts crossing all limits of hypocrisy; an integral part of the Hindutva politics. In the last week of 2018 he was on tour of Andaman & Nicobar Islands where the infamous Cellular Jail is also situated.
PM's Love for Savarkar & Netaji
According to press reports immediately after reaching there he visited the Cellular Jail, sat in the cell where VD Savarkar was incarcerated.
Sadly, PM chose to sit in the cell of 'Veer' Savarkar who wrote not one but FIVE MERCY PETITIONS to the British rulers in 1911, 1913, 1914, 1918 and 1920 begging forgiveness for his anti-British activities. These bore positive results; his sentence for 50 years was reduced to 13 years out of which he spent only 10 years in the Cellular Jail. Thus he belittled the sacrifices of real heroes of Cellular Jail like, Dharma Veer Ramraksha, Indu Bhushan Roy, Ullaskar Dutta, Jyotish Chander Paul, Chatter Singh, Nani Gopal (16 year old), to name few who did not submit to the repression at Cellular Jail, instead laid down their lives fighting it.

Later during the trip PM Narendra Modi renamed three islands in Andaman & Nicobar. Donning the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army) cap, PM declared that it was done in deference to the wishes of Netaji who in 1943, had suggested that Andaman and Nicobar Islands be renamed as Shahid and Swaraj Dweep respectively. PM said:
“The country draws inspiration from Andaman. That is why the government has issued a notification and I am proudly announcing that henceforth, Ross Island will be known as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep. The Neil Island will be known as Shahid Dweep and Havelock Island as Swaraj Dweep”. 
PM also hoisted a 150-feet-high national flag; the Tricolour in Marina Park, South Point, in Port Blair and said the government is committed to creating an India, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose once dreamt of.
There cannot be a greater crime then putting Savarkar and Subhash Chandra Bose on the same pedestal. Modi as a seasoned RSS cadre while worshipping Savarkar maintains criminal silence about anti-national ideas and activities of the latter. Or the fact may be that RSS loves Savarkar for this kind of heritage of his only.

RSS/BJP CHOICE FOR BHARAT RATNA DECREED MANUSMRITI AS HINDU LAW
The current vociferous campaign for awarding Savarkar Bharat Ratn by Savarkarites claims that this Hindutva 'Veer' was a ‘rationalist Hindu’ a leader who ‘ended the practice of Untouchability’, propagated ‘scientific temper’ and died as an atheist. They also persist in saying that his “outlook was absolutely modern and scientific and secular”. 
It is interesting to note that such protagonists of the Hindutva politics who declare the modern times as kalyug (state of moral decay), atheists as scum of the society, Casteism synonymous with Hinduism and call for scientific temper as foreign conspiracy by Christians and Communists are glorifying these qualities of Savarkar!
However, let us compare these claims of Savarkar being a liberal person with the facts available in the Hindu Mahasabha archives of the times of Savarker.

WHEN GODSE'S CHILDREN RULE INDIA GANDHI IS CRUCIFIED EVERYDAY
The October 6, 2019 issue of Organizer, English organ of RSS, was dedicated to 'Mahatma Gandhi', celebrating his birthday; the October 2. Our PM Modi who identifies himself as 'a Hindu nationalist' also remembers Gandhiji regularly, his ideological parent, RSS displaying Gandhiji's photo too in some of its meetings.
This love of RSS for Gandhiji is a hoax and needed to be judged by going through the following ideas and practices of this organization which are brazenly inimical to the ideals of Gandhiji.

Sunita Singh Gaur of Ramkola, Uttar Pradesh, India secured for herself a place in history when she soared to international infamy after an explicit social media summons for “Hindu brothers” to gangrape Muslim “mothers and sisters.”

The jaw-dropping demand might have attracted little attention if it were not for Gaur’s role as head of the Ramkola chapter of the Mahila Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Even then, it likely would have been dismissed as an aberration – the freakish ramblings of some bigoted crackpot who managed to slip unvetted into a party leadership role – if it were not remarkably consistent with the actions of some of the most notorious members of her party and the Hindutva ideology upon which it was founded.

This August we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Quit India Movement [QIM] and Indian National Army [INA] or Azad Hind Fauj which 1943 onward was commanded by Netaji Subash Chandra Bose. It is true that INA commanded by Netaji and QIM led by Indian National Congress had serious ideological divergence; both stood for two different strategies for independence of India. However, both these movements proved to be milestones in the history of Indian freedom struggle. Undoubtedly, millions of Indians who wished end of the foreign rule in India participated in these two movements, many of them sacrificing their lives and personal liberties for the cause of national liberation. These two movements became rage in their times and produced innumerable icons both women and men in the history of freedom struggle. In a co-incidence, the two leading female freedom fighters, Marinal Gore (a close associate of MK Gandhi and a pantheon of QIM) and Captain Laxmi Sehgal (a legendry associate of Netaji and Commander of the famed Laxmi Bai Regiment of the INA) died in the same month of July last.

The heroic deeds, on the one hand, of the fighters of INA against the British forces in South-east Asia and on the North-east borders of India, and, on the other hand by the masses moved by the call Congress of QIM in every nook and corner of the country stirred the whole nation and remain a source of inspiration to the common people even today. These two movements were testimony to the fact that freedom fighters who participated in these two movements remained committed for an inclusive India rising above religious, caste, linguistic and regional divides. There was every likelihood that if these two historic movements had succeeded India would not have been dismembered in the name of religion and we would have successfully succeeded in responding to the divisive politics of mixing up of religion with nationality. It would have been a different India today. Unfortunately the people of this sub-continent had to pay a heavy price when these movements did not succeed, more than 1.2 million lost their lives, 12 million were forced to abandon their hearth and home and there is no record of women raped, forced to convert and people maimed.

Most of us know that the then Communist Party of India opposed the QIM thus betraying a great phase of mass upsurge in the history of the freedom struggle. However, what role the then Hindutva camp consisting of Hindu Mahasabha and Rashtriya Sawayamsevak Sangh remains in wrap for reasons unknown. The Hindutva camp together not only opposed both the QIM and INA but also provided multifaceted and multi-dimensional support to the British rulers in suppressing these movements. In this connection shocking documents are available to be read and believed.
