Three-level NPC active-front-end three-phase (3LAFE) converters can be applied to high-power medium voltage applications, with 4-quadrant unity-power-factor operation, allowing a broad range for power conversion systems, such as decentralized energy distribution and utilization. Switching losses and network interaction limit the operation of 3LAFE high-power converters, especially when GTO-converters are used.

Physicians manually interpret an electrocardiogram (ECG) signal morphology in routine clinical practice. This activity is a monotonous and abstract task that relies on the experience of understanding ECG waveform meaning, including P-wave, QRS-complex, and T-wave. Such a manual process depends on signal quality and the number of leads. ECG signal classification based on deep learning (DL) has produced an automatic interpretation; however, the proposed method is used for specific abnormality conditions. When the ECG signal morphology change to other abnormalities, it cannot proceed automatically. To generalize the automatic interpretation, we aim to delineate ECG waveform. However, the output of delineation process only ECG waveform duration classes for P-wave, QRS-complex, and T-wave. It should be combined with a medical knowledge rule to produce the abnormality interpretation. The proposed model is applied for atrial fibrillation (AF) identification. This study meets the AF criteri...

Electro-thermal simulation of power electronic semiconductors is now required in accurate optimisation of power electronic circuits and systems. This requires accurate, but not too complex, electro-thermal models of power semiconductors to be used in commercially available power electronic circuit simulators. Realization of one such electro-thermal model for power MOSFET in IsSpice is described in the paper. Model consists of electrical and thermal part with interactive exchange of variables. Electro-thermal model was tested on real circuit example.

An off-line path planner for Unmanned Air Vehicles is presented. The planner is based on Evolutionary Algorithms, in order to calculate a curved pathline with desired characteristics in a three-dimensional environment. The pathline is represented using B-Spline curves, with the coordinates of its control points being the genes of the Evolutionary Algorithm artificial chromosome. The method was tested in an artificial three-dimensional terrain, for different starting and ending points, providing very smooth pathlines under difficult constraints.

A prototype display measurement assessment transfer standard (DMATS) is being developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to assist the display industry in standardizing measurement methods used to quantify and specify the performance of electronic displays. Designed as an idealized electronic display, the DMATS illumination source emulates photometric and colorimetric measurement problems commonly encountered in measuring electronic displays. NIST will calibrate DMATS units and distribute them to participating laboratories for measurement. Analysis of initial interlaboratory comparison results will provide a baseline assessment of display measurement uncertainties. Also, diagnostic indicators expected to emerge from the data will be used to assist laboratories in correcting deficiencies or in identifying metrology problem areas for further research, such as measurement techniques tailored to new display technologies. This paper describes the design and co...

Great strides have recently been made in the development of white light emitting diodes (LEDs), although perceptible variations remain in the color and brightness of nominally identical products. The objective of this study was to examine color and brightness discriminability between different white LEDs when used as illuminants of colored and achromatic objects. A method of successive comparisons was used to assess discriminability rather than the more typical simultaneous (side-by-side) comparisons using a "same-different" response protocol. Three-dimensional "tolerance zones" were developed based upon discriminability in a chromaticity (u', v') and luminance when illuminating the colored and achromatic objects. These "tolerance zones" could be used to establish specification tolerances for different lighting applications.

It is shown that hybrid metal oxide-carbon supercapacitors possess superior energy and power densities as compared to bare carbon. An electroless deposition process was used to synthesize ruthenium coated activated carbon. The effect of electrochemical oxidation and temperature treatment on the material performance has been studied extensively. Maximum utilization of 900 F/g of Ru was obtained with 0.4 μm thin Ru film coated on activated carbon. Electroless deposition leads to the formation of thin amorphous films, which increase the specific capacitance of Ru dramatically.

Pulse transit time (PTT) is a useful marker that has been used by many researchers to indirectly estimate cardiovascular parameters. Photoplethysmogram (PPG) is one of the most common waveforms used for the estimation of PTT. In this paper, we propose a new method to estimate the PTT from the anacrotic phase of the PPG signal using autoregressive with exogenous (ARX) system identification approach. The results show that the proposed method produces lower model order, higher average model fitness and the resulting PTT values are in the same range of PTT values as estimated trough the traditional method.

This paper presents design of novel on-chip mi9cromachined spiral inductors developed in 0.8micrometers commercial CMOS technology. Proposed innovative architecture maximizes the quality factor Q. Suspended inductors can be placed vertically above the substrate, thus, the parasitic substrate effects are considerably reduced. Four designed passive inductors have values from 1nH to 7nH. The Q-factor greater than ten is estimated from calculations, and is experimentally verified by S-parameter measurements.

This paper presents a systematic approach to develop a dynamic model for a matrix converter. The matrix converter interfaces two three-phase ac systems that can be at different voltages and/or frequencies, e.g., a high-speed micro-turbine generator and a utility distribution system. The model is developed by (i) transferring the abc frame equations to a newly defined switching reference frame and
