Telecommuting is defined as: “…An alternative work arrangement in which employees perform some portion of their job outside their primary workplace. Oftentimes, this secondary location is an employee’s home” (Da Silva). In today’s global economy and digital world, the practice of telecommuting has grown drastically in the past 10 years. Many employees today find themselves commuting less to the traditional office and “working from home.” Telecommuting has become an attractive option for employees and organizations with the new social contract in the workplace. The flexibility of work hours and location makes it easier to motivate employees, which in turn creates a more productive and cost-effective work environment for both the employee and the organization. However, in February of 2013, Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer banned working from home for the organization’s employees because it hindered the performance of employees (Swisher).

Marissa Mayer's decision to end Yahoo's work-from-home program sparks a firestorm of media scrutiny. Yahoo, whose business it is to connect people over the Internet, finds itself at the center of a nationwide debate on workplace flexibility -- even though Mayer never intended to make a broad industry statement about working from home. This case examines communication efforts to contain the conflict, and it may spark lively debate over where and when worker productivity and creativity are most likely to occur.

As there is no clear information about the estimation of when the pandemic in Indonesia will be over, working from home system will be applied for office workers in a long period with an unknown end date. The stress impact from working at home during self-quarantine is not well understood. The paper developed to examine the stress impact of working from home during Covid-19 self-quarantine period. Through literature review with descriptive analysis approach, the paper seeks relevancies of stress as the impact of long-term work from home system. The paper also includes the result of interviewing 27 office workers with work location in Jakarta, Indonesia, using group discussion in an online face-to-face meeting digital application, about their experience of suffering stress during work from home. All members of the discussion suspiring about work from home system during the pandemic that does not resemble their expectation of less stressful than work from home on a regular daily working basis before the pandemic. The obligation of accompanying their children to study, taking care of the house cleaning, cooking, and, significantly, higher workload given by their organization has become the reason work from home during a pandemic is more stressful than what they have imagined. Both methods showing a strong conclusion that working from home in a long-term period of Covid-19 pandemic self-quarantine causing individual stress impact more than the office worker's expectation. The paper concludes that based on the group discussion and literature review, work from home system during Covid-19 pandemic self-quarantine is stressful as caused by the striving of life balancing between work and home duty, work task overload, and boredom during isolation.

The right to work in a safe workplace is every woman's legal right. However, this fundamental right of a woman is violated when she is subject to any form of harassment at her workplace including sexual harassment, seriously impacting her physical and emotional wellbeing (WCD, GOI, 2015). Globally, Sexual harassment at the workplace is fully recognized as violative of fundamental rights of a woman, calling for legal interventions and enforcement actions. The Sexual harassment of women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 is the first codified law in India enacted to provide the much needed legislative push to protect women from workplace sexual harassment. The understanding of what constitutes a ‘workplace’ is an important aspect of the POSH Act, 2013 as the term ‘workplace’ has been expressly defined under the Act and incidents of harassment arising out of and in the course of employment are within the purview of the POSH Act. In this backdrop, the present paper discusses in detail the concept of the workplace for the purpose of the Act by drawing upon extant literature and substantive provisions of law. The paper also revisits the concept of the workplace in view of the new ‘work from home’ rule adopted by employers amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Towards the end, the paper builds the case for creating a safe working environment in the virtual workplace.

On 24 March 2020, the Government of India ordered a nationwide lockdown for 21 days, limiting movement of the entire 1.3 billion population of India as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 pandemic in India. It was ordered after a 14-hour voluntary public curfew on 22 March, followed by enforcement of a series of regulations in the country's COVID-19 affected regions. The lockdown was placed when the number of confirmed positive coronavirus cases in India was approximately 500. The sudden prohibition on movement of the entire 1.3 billion population has caused disruption in the daily livelihood and social indulgence. After 2 months, the lockdown still is in motion and the population is stagnant. This stagnation has made them prone to many mental health issues which are to be identified. The focus of this study will be centered at understanding whether there has been any significant impact of COVID-19 pandemic and the prolonged lockdown that it has caused on the psychological well-being of married individuals who have lacked social contact from the outside world and have been working from home. Therefore, assessing the possibilities of married individuals showing the onset of sadistic tendencies against their spouses under the influence of anxiety based sadism, which could determine the prevalence of antagonistic social anxiety amidst Indian population. The results shown by both the scales(Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale and Variety of Sadistic Tendencies) in determining anxiety and sadism in married couples can be majorly said to be significant to the cognitively based predictions in determining the sadistic tendencies. The findings also contribute to the accumulation of knowledge in behavioral changes in couples during lockdown and may be useful in determining potential to establish links between strong aspects of direct sadism for both male and female partners early detected tendencies.
