About this audiobook

The Invisible Man (1897) is one of the most famous science fiction novels of all time. Written by H.G. Wells (1866-1946), it tells the story of a scientist who discovers the secret of invisibility and uses it on himself. The story begins as the Invisible Man, with a bandaged face and a heavy coat and gloves, takes a train to lodge in a country inn whilst he tries to discover the antidote and make himself visible again. The book inspired several films and is notable for its vivid descriptions of the invisible man--no mean feat, given that you can't see him!

Author

H.G. Wells

Herbert George Wells (1866–1946) was born in Bromley, England, in 1866 to a working class family. His first novel, The Time Machine, was an instant success and Wells produced a series of science fiction novels which pioneered ideas about the future. His later work focused on satire and social criticism. Wells forecasted the rise of major cities and suburbs, economic globalization, and aspects of future military conflicts, though he did not predict the rise of women in the workplace.

probably actually a really great book. this public domain version was painful to listen to. the only reason I didn't give it one star was for the potential for a great book. note: if you want to listen to a classic that should be rated four stars, don't listen to a public domain version

A really fascinating perspective on what so many individuals fantasize of—being invisible. The commentary and narration is phenomenal.

This book was not entertaining. There were parts of great intrigue and action, but most of it was a boring slog. And everyone was a completely useless fighter until the very end when the plot was finishing up. The person who did the audiobook was a bit amateurish and unpolished, but I found it to be perfectly acceptable.

I tried so hard (because I loved War of the Worlds) but this was just so dry, I could barely get through it.
