About this audiobook
Captivating and action-packed, From Blood and Ash is a sexy, addictive, and unexpected fantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Laura Thalassa.
A Maiden…
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.
A Duty…
The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.
A Kingdom…
Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I had a really difficult time getting into the book copy, so I decided to try to listen to the audiobook while at work and I LOVED it. I cannot wait to read/listen the other books in this series.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Absolutely loved the book the quality of this audiobook are awful!! Long missing chunks of audio longest is over a minute. And normally pop up at times of tension and break the hypnotic flow of the story.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you like ACOTAR then you’ll love this! Her inner monologues can be A LOT but I love the characters otherwise. I’ve already started the second book and the story just keeps getting better! 10/10 recommend!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved the story. The characters are beautiful together. Stina Nielson did a fantastic job narrating. She was able to hit all emotions while narrating: happy, sad, anger and fear. Such an amazing audio book!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well well well, this book has kept me intrigued the entire way through. I would never have imagine this story even if I tried. Guess you will have to read it to see for yourself but once again, Jennifer manage to make me laugh out loud, cry, swear and a whole other set of emotion I can’t mention in a review. Loved it

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/53.4 I saw the majority, almost all the plot-twists coming, there were so many repetitions of the same concepts and words and that bugged me. I was gonna pull my hair out if the word 'maiden' was mentioned once more.
I liked that she offered the information regarding the world and system quickly without being info-dumpy, however there wasn't much buildup or creativity to it. I feel like the book is a mixture of several other books/ concepts with very little originality of its own accord- probably hence why I forsaw the majority of events.
There are parts that I enjoyed and found funny or nice and many characters that I liked. I think my main issue with out mc is her constant -and I mean CONSTANT- state of denial towards anything and everything.
She tries to come up with reasoning for everything and argue about anything and nothing is ever straightforward with her. She can't even be honest with herself, denying obvious truths with so much fervency it was annoying.
Maybe it's just me, but being in the MC's head/ pov was difficult when the truths were in plain sight. I wasn't swept up by her way of thinking and nothing about the events shocked me except her insistent ignorance. I understand her struggles and pain and confusion but it still didn't mean she could just play dumb.
Anyway, I feel like I majorly stated all my criticisms so I will preface that just because I didn't love this book doesn't mean you won't. As someone who read many fantasy books and have become very familiar with the genre it's simply difficult to find new concepts or shocking plot-twists. It was still enjoyable and I am planning on seeing how it all transpires, I just had some qualms with it.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The start is slow, had to get almost 10 chapters in before I even kind of understood what was going on. But as the plot went on and characters developed it was easier to follow and understand. Definitely a hard start of a book

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It’s so bad and cringy but I couldn’t stop wanting more. This is my second read through and I was still surprised. If you’re okay with so so writing and predictable good plot twist this is it. Absolutely worth the read.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This took a bit for the story to get realllly good but once it did, I was hooked. Cannot wait for the next book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5My goodness this series is intense! I couldn’t stop listening. I seriously listened at every moment I had free time. Most nights I couldn’t sleep because I needed to find out what happened next! Stina Nielsen is an amazing voice actor! This story should be a movie series. Thank you Jennifer for this great story. I’m actually listening again for the second time.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book. I love the different take on vampires. The characters are well written. The story is described really well. I'm going on to book two.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love this book. Poppy and Castel is my favorite couple.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5If you can get over the author naming the heroine Penellafe (yes, it’s pronounced like Penelope, but with an ‘F’), aka “Poppy,” the immediate misuse of the word unconscious for the appropriate word, subconscious, along with the first few chapters being not just boring, but not helpful either, this book is for you. I’m still not quite sure what world the author is attempting to create. In no way does she explain this world at any understandable level. There are seems to be an almost stream of consciousness writing as far as the plot goes and the dialogue between the heroine and her love interest is … if I’m putting it nicely… disinteresting? If you liked ACOTAR or any other type of fae smut, this just isn’t at the same level. It is, however, multi-booked and available in audio, so I will continue to plod on rather than listen to the news or the sounds of my children screaming at each other.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved it!! The few first chapters were a little bit confusing and hard to follow, but I managed to resist the urge to stop. And I couldn’t be more glad with that decision. Poppy is a great character, she is not just some helpless maiden. And Hawk? I can just say OH MY HAWK ;)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A great read. As soon as I finished, I ordered the next book in the series
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was so well written! Looking forward to more!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Ok. Honest review here. This is just not a good book. The main character is a horny young virgin that wants to "live" and apparently that means doing her best to bed a royal guard. Meanwhile the plot... Is weak. The last couple chapters is where all of the exposition is and that's a pity because the plot is a newish take on werewolves and vampires etc but it's actually quite boring once you finally get to it. The main character is always dialoguing even when things are moving quickly. She's always drooling over her guard but also she's a good fighter.... That never fights for herself or stands to for herself. The plot twist toward the end was obvious by the time it came and.... All in all in I decided not to finish the last 2hrs of the audiobook because the was boring. I can honestly say I don't care what happened with Poppy & Hawk. Booooo
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantasy world, forbidden spicy romance, multiple battles. Hard to put down. Definitely recommend!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Absolutely enthralling! I can not wait to start the next book! Oh Poppy, what will you do next…
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I DNF'd this book twice. I went back a third time and refused to give up. I'm so glad I did. The narrator, Stina Nielsen, is very dramatic and challenging to get used to. She was also the voice of Nesta in ACOSF, and I will forever associate her with that character. If you keep going, The plot will kick in and distract you from the narrator, and then eventually, you won't notice her as much. I like the slow-burn romance and am very intrigued by the male protagonist. He's a good guy and not a good guy, and I like the complexity. It ends on a great cliffhanger, and you will want to read book #2, which is even better than book #1.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book reminds me of ACOTAR. It has romance and a good plot along with a fantasy. Love the twist too
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I can rewind easily and get back to the book
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I felt like there was something lacking. The idea is great, the execution not so much.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Some elements were predictable, but I really like the way interactions between the main characters were written. EXCELLENT narration.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved the narrator! This was a great audiobook. The story is so good and leaves on a cliffhanger.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5MY MIND IS BLOWNNNNNNNN. I could not stop laughing at some parts but the ending, yeah. Didn’t see that coming.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Spectacular, totally unexpected ploy . Can't wait to read the second one.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was so good. Loved the story and the characters. Narrator was also good. Can’t wait to start book 2.
