And I Close My Eyes - Hailey Marie
Author’s Note
This poetry collection is a peek into the healing process I went through to overcome past trauma, mental health issues, and the disasters of everyday life including heartbreak and stress. These poems range from being very dark to being very positive and hopeful because that is how healing works. Although my collection progresses in a straightforward line, my healing was not like that. Progress and healing is a very curvy path that includes steps forward and steps backward over and over again before you make it to the end. I stress this here and in my final thoughts because that is a difficult lesson to learn, one that I did not learn on my own. I arranged this collection this way so that hope was easy to find when you needed it, and so poems about fighting or fear and despair were easy to find when you needed to feel heard and less alone, because we all need that sometimes - even when it hurts. Although this collection makes it seem like my journey is over, it’s not. Mentally healing and overcoming mental health issues is very difficult and it takes much time and patience. My journey may never be over, but the hard part is, and if you are in the
