Poems Of Redemption
INTRODUCTION
39517.pngToday finds me celebrating my birthday, drinking tea and watching the world bike race Le Tour de France. Poems Of Redemption has just been restored to it’s original form and it is surprising to surmise that it was written nearly twenty years ago. All the poems are presented here word for word just like it was intended in the first place. Some of the verses now embarrass me, while others fascinate and perplex me. It was one of my first forays into writing and I am a little proud. It was received very warmly at the time and addresses characters, topics and issues that can confront any young adult (even today). What I think people like most about Poems Of Redemption is that it is open and honest. The readers seem to be able to relate to it. I hope you can as well.
Lots of love- Skip James.
VISIONS OF SUMMER
39517.pngCool summer rain comes floating through the trees
The droplets fall gently
There’s no sign of a breeze
But it doesn’t dampen our spirits
Like the garden down the front
We’ve had our taste of the Sunday
And soon we’ll be having fun
The rain will pass
The sun will soon burn the grass
We’ll play loud and sing of the blues
People will drop by, wanting to hear some news
We’ll play hard and get into the cricket
It’s free admission, you don’t have to buy a ticket
So come by any day or night
You can get frantically involved in a song or fight
Drink a beer that’s smooth and cool
Play tennis or dip in the pool
Cool summer rain comes floating through the trees
The droplets fall gently
There’s no sigh of a breeze
I lie awake in the middle of the night
There’s nothing to do but sit tight
It would be good to live alone
Only speak to people over the phone
See whoever whenever I please
Not soak in sweat
That comes up to my knees
Sweat that comes from trying to be merry
From serving coffee, ice cream and berries.
WANT TO TOUCH HER
39517.pngHere’s a poem, a rhyme, a song
Take time to read it, it’s not very long
It’s about a place I went to
With a guy, not one girl, not two, a few
There was loud music, maniacs with beer
People with tattoo’s and queers
We got there in plenty of time
Waited in line and soaked up the sunshine
Thirty bands followed that chilled whiskey I swallowed
The crowd grew quickly to great proportions
While the air screamed loud with guitar distortion
I stayed on the bench for just a little while
Just long enough, just in time to catch a smile
From one of the girls in the crowd
Call me sentimental but it made me feel proud
Felt kind of good to know her and her friends
So when she walked on the track
Where all the young people grooved
I knew she stood out in the crowd
Could tell by the way she moved
All of a sudden the light dimmed
The music faded and the air grew thin
Found myself in a space alone
With the girl with the auburn hair
Felt my stone and stared
Seemed like we had known each other for years
That we had come to hang out
And sink a few beers
It followed that she was a girl
Who could leave my head in a whirl
So best treat her right
Keep her in sight till night fell
Then the dream vanished like a broken spell
And the music crashed over me like breaking waves
My minds wandering path became paved in concrete
