FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Greetings MVMPCS Families, I am so anxious for spring so we can put these snow days behind us and welcome some warmer weather. As Ms. King shared last week, we have finished MSAs for Reading and Math, but arent completely finished with all assessments. Next week, we will begin Science MSA for our 5th and 8th graders. This assessment will be given in the computer lab so our groups will be small due to the number of computers. There will be two days of testing for each group of students which will last approximately 2 hours each day. 5th graders are scheduled to take the assessment Monday, March 24th -Thursday, March 27th. 8th Graders are scheduled for the assessment Friday, March 28th Thursday, April 3rd. You will receive a home report showing how well your child is learning the science skills specified in the Maryland Content Standards later this summer. MSA only provides a partial picture of your childs academic performance and should be used in connection with other feedback from your childs teacher. Please help your students prepare by being at school every day and on time! In addition, every school in the county has one group of students participating in the field test for the new assessment, PARCC, which is scheduled to replace MSA next year. This year select 6th graders at MVMPCS will complete the English Language Arts assessment, as well as, provide feedback about the assessment. Families of participating students have already received notification previously. The PARCC assessment is also computer based and will take place during the week of April 7th. As we continue building our school community, the Team Leaders are very excited to join the next Community Coffee on March 28th. They will be seeking feedback from MVMPCS Families to learn more about your questions regarding Montessori Education. In addition, they will have a quick Fact and Question Sheet to highlight information about your childs academic program. I hope everyone has a wonderful and restful weekend! MVMPCS NEWSLETTER
TIME TO LOG VOLUNTEER HOURS! Dear MVMPCS Volunteers, Its reminder time! I have to report all volunteer hours to the county. (My deadline is Thursday, May 1st.) Let's make sure everyone logs ALL of your Volunteer Hours as parent volunteer participation reflects positively on our school in many ways. Any hours that you have already volunteered from May 1, 2013 forward, please either update in the VOLUNTEER LOG BOOK on the desk across from the office, or ONLINE! In order to enter hours online, please go to the web site at: http://127tech.net/mvmpcs. If you need the password, please email me at: staceyflowers@aol.com. If you are unable to access the web site, you may continue to use the binder located outside of the main office. A few tips for online entry: Only enter one name at a time. For example, if you enter "John and Sue Smith" the hours will have to be manually divided for each person prior to submission and certificate distribution. Use the same name format each time. For example, If you enter "John Smith" the first time, "John S. Smith" the second time and "J.S. Smith" the third time, there will be three line items for the same person that will have to be manually totaled. Enter your hours on a weekly or monthly basis to ensure all of your time is captured. This will also provide the proper tally for submission to the county and the certificates. If you're not sure whether you've logged a certain number of hours, you can log one hour and your total for the year will pop up. Just remember that you've already logged that extra hour when logging any further hours. Remember all your hours from May 1, 2013 will be counted. This log should include your committee & club hours, all hours attending school GC or BOT meetings, any hours that you spent doing projects for the school at home, as well as your inschool volunteer hours. Please know how very much your time, effort, and resources are appreciated on behalf of the staff, students, and the MVMPCS community! Stacey Flowers, MVMPCS Volunteer Committee AUCTION CLASS PROJECT VOLUNTEER WANTED Ms. Zoes class is seeking a volunteer who is willing to help build a picture frame for a class project that will be included in the school auction. We think someone with light carpentry or picture framing skills would be helpful! Please email Marion Bundens at mbundens@verizon.net or call (240) 575-0135. Thank you for considering!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE HEALTH ROOM

DONT DELAY! MAKE THE APPOINTMENT TODAY! We do not want to exclude your child from school in August!
State vaccination requirements for students entering 7th grade for school year 2014-2015 have been revised. Your 7th grade student must have the following: Single dose of Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) vaccine* Single dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MCV) *Tdap is not the same as the other Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis vaccines called DPT or DTaP. Even if your child has received these vaccines in the past, they will still need a single dose of Tdap.

Parents/guardians are responsible for providing proof of Tdap and MCV vaccination regardless of previous vaccination records provided to your childs school.
If you have any questions about the new vaccination requirements, please contact your childs health care provider or the school health room. Make your childs appointment now and avoid the rush. Bring the vaccination documentation to school as soon as possible. ANNUAL MMCI AUCTION NEWS Did you know that the annual auction is MMCIs largest fundraiser of the year? It is a time where both CCM and MVM communities come together to support MMCI. We want to invite the whole community to help make this years auction a success by soliciting stores and services you frequent for donations and sponsorships. You can even donate a good or service yourself or through your place of employment. Even if you don't own a business, you can help by donating any new merchandise or gift cards that are sitting in your home or, let's just say you are a wonderful babysitter or enjoy cleaning, you can donate your time through a service donation. Donations are tax deductible and proceeds directly benefit all of our children's day to day school experience. Please note, there is a fifth sponsorship option this year for Family and Friends to become an auction sponsor. The Family & Friend Sponsorship includes two adult tickets to the auction, a thank you in the auction catalog and a thank you in the schools newsletters after the auction. Please feel free to contact committee chair, Erin Frank with questions at kfrankl@mac.com.
