Sous DiSEqC 1.2, le positionnement
automatique ne demande aucun dispositif

velle installation industrielle est érigée
sur ce terrain : « Elle est l’usine numéro
2 d’INFOSAT » explique Niran fièrement.

complètement opérationnelle. » L’usine
numéro 1 a atteint ses limites : depuis
quelques semaines on a commencé la

“L’usine le numéro 1 a une surface de
2400 m2 ; l’usine numéro 2 dispose de
2500 m2 », explique Niran. Tandis que
la première usine est la propriété d’IN-
FOSAT, la seconde a été louée. « Ceci
économise les fonds que j’ai pu inves-
tir dans de nouvelles machines », indi-
que Niran en expliquant ses projets. Il
a ainsi pu acquérir deux poinçonneuses
additionnelles pour atteindre un total de
cinq, qui sont employées pour poinçon-
ner les trous dans les rouleaux d’alu-

Tout cet investissement me fait réflé-
chir pour un instant et je demande : la
Thaïlande a-t-elle échappé d’une façon
ou d’une autre à la crise économique
mondiale actuelle ? « Non, pas tout »,
répond Niran, « elle a commencé en sep-
tembre dernier par une diminution régu-
lière du nombre des contrats de vente.
» Au début, Niran n’avait eu aucune
parade. Ses employés ont commencé à
devenir inquiets. Ensuite, Niran a trouvé
la solution:

explique Niran avec un sourire sur son
visage. Il est très satisfait de son action
de réduction des prix. Les stocks dis-
ponibles d’antennes invendues qui vers
la fin 2008 encombraient le plancher
de l’usine ont depuis été complètement
épuisées. « Aujourd’hui, une antenne
est vendue dès qu’elle est produite ; les
revendeurs doivent attendre pour que
leurs commandes soient expédiées ! » La
première usine était capable de produire
un maximum de 10.000 paraboles par
mois. Avec le début des activités de la
deuxième usine, la capacité aura grimpé
à près de 15.000.
Niran concède que la crise économi-
que a également ses avantages. Les prix
des matières premières ne sont pas la
seule chose qui sont tombés, la charge
des salaires a également diminuée en
silence. « 70% de nos employés sont fidè-

déplacer à une autre compagnie même
si on leur propose une augmentation de

des employés est un aspect important
pour une compagnie avec 60 ouvriers et
30 employés dans la gestion.

et les récepteurs sont marqués « Made
in China ». S’il importe ces appareils en
pièces détachées SKD (Semi Knocked
Down), les droits d’importation sont de
seulement 10% et les récepteurs pour-
raient alors être marqués de « fabriqué
en Thaïlande ». « Certains pays préfè-
rent le « fabriqué en Thaïlande », remar-
que Niran concernant l’idée alléchante
de monter les récepteurs lui-même. En
même temps il examine les dépenses
additionnelles qui seraient directement
liées à cette idée. Niran analyse la pers-
pective de prendre le train en mouve-
ment pour la fabrication de récepteurs
ou maintenir le chemin plus confortable
d’importer des récepteurs complète-
ment finis. Officiellement, Niran n’a pas
encore décidé. Mais… si vous vous jetez
un regard plus profond à l’intérieur de la
nouvelle usine vous verrez qu’une partie
a été réservée pour une chaîne de mon-
tage de récepteurs…
D’une façon ou d’une autre, Niran vou-
drait atteindre son objectif ambitieux.

Le radioamateur Télé-satellite publie régulièrement

des articles sur les radioamateurs
moderne: TVHD par satellite. Jusqu’à présent, cette

catégorie a couvert tous ceux qui
s’occupent avec la réception satellite
comme passe-temps. Il existe
maintenant une nouvelle catégorie : le
radioamateur TVHD ! Il est seulement
intéressé par des chaînes de la TVHD
en DVB-S2, et en rien d’autre. Nous
avons rencontré un des premiers de
ces radioamateurs TVHD spécialisés,
assez étonnamment à Pékin - peut-être
c’est cela même la raison. La réception
satellite privée n’est pas permise en
Chine excepté dans les régions des
plateaux et la spécialisation sur la TVHD
est donc deux fois plus rare.

Ce radioamateur TVHD a adopté le nom
de code « Applesat ». Il explique pour-
quoi : « C’est à 15 ans que j’ai commencé
à m’intéresser à la réception satellite. En
cette époque la Chine était encore toute
isolée et la réception d’émissions étran-
gères a ouvert un nouveau monde pour
moi. En cette époque je pensais encore
que la terre était comme une pomme
avec des satellites volant autour d’elle. »
Ses parents n’appréciaient pas vrai-
ment son nouveau passe-temps, mais
Applesat ne s’est pas laissé trop per-
turber et à commencé par installer une
parabole de 1.5 mètres pour la réception
d’ASIASAT 1. C’était en 1992. Trois ans
après il a étendu son système avec une
parabole de 2.1 mètres pour APSTAR 1.
En janvier 2009 il a déménagé dans
son propre appartement dans un nou-

Il y a des exceptions cependant, pour
des immeubles dans lesquels on permet

de recherche n’est pas autorisé, ainsi vous
devez employer d’autres termes semblables
pour trouver des produits comme cela. »
Applesat sait venir à bout de tous ces
obstacles pour son passe-temps. Son éta-
gère contient déjà cinq récepteurs satelli-
tes et également un téléviseur écran plat
TVHD des 32 pouces. « Je voudrais vrai-
ment transformer mon passe-temps en
mon gagne-pain », explique Applesat, « et
cela se produira à la longue. » L’énergie

Telecom Italia has reached an agreement with Italian private broadcaster
Mediaset to bring Mediaset Premium content to Alice Home TV. Telecom
Italia’s IPTV platform will feature new cinema and TV movies, TV serials,
cartoons and TV premieres, as well as more Italian football content.
Alice Home TV subscribers can now access Premium Bouquet package
channels such as Joi, Mya, Steel, Cartoon Network, Hiro, and a 24-hour
channel with live coverage of the current Italian Big Brother series. In
addition, the Premium Calcio package offers live football coverage of all

LATVIA
IPTV SUBSCRIBERS QUADRUPLE IN 2008

Lattelecom reported a fourfold increase in subscribers to its IPTV
service Lattelecom TV during 2008 and also recently secured the rights
to operate an MPEG4-based DTT service in the country. Although
it has not revealed subscriber figures for its IPTV service, launched
in April 2007, the company also reports that income from interactive
TV services increased by 517% in 2008. Lattelecom recently started
expanding its new FTTx-based “Future Network”, which will deliver
Internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps, with customers in Zolitūde (a
suburb of Riga, the capital of Latvia) already receiving these speeds.
In the future, Internet speeds will be increased to 10 Gbps, and the
new network is to be expanded to the neighbourhood of Ķengarags
(another suburb of Riga), and then to other parts of the capital and
across other major cities in Latvia. The operator aims to offers DTT
services on a commercial basis and throughout Latvia from this autumn.

Dialog Telecom has launched its new IPTV service using a video
distribution network based on a video networking solutions from
Scopus Video Networks. At the core of Dialog’s new IPTV video
distribution network is the Scopus Eldorado NMS (Network Man-
agement System), which offers redundancy and a centralised view
of the network to simplify troubleshooting and help the operator’s
engineers maintain consistent, high-quality transmissions for 24
channels. Scopus IRD-2900 series integrated receiver decoders
receive satellite video feeds carrying Polish and international con-
tent, while the company’s UE-9000 encoders provide local content
encoding for distribution of the video to viewers’ homes over IP.
PORTUGAL
PORTUGAL TELECOM WITH 312.000 IPTV SUBSCRIBERS

Portugal Telecom added 110.000 new customers to its IPTV service
Meo in the fourth quarter of 2008 to reach 312.000 by year-end. The
success of its TV offer can be seen in the decelerating loss of its fixed-
line subscribers and in the growth of customers for its flat fee broadband
services, with around 50% of new IPTV subscribers in 2008 being
entirely new customers for Portugal Telecom. Furthermore, the operator
reports a 42.9% penetration rate for its IPTV service within its ADSL
customer base as a whole. Portugal Telecom also reports that VOD has
proved to be a key asset, with 45% of Meo customers paying to access
the VOD library in 2008, watching an average of 2.8 movies per month.

companies have been highly successful in offering their joint solution
combining Latens conditional access and Minerva’s middleware to oper-

MTS LAUNCHES HDTV SERVICE IN WINNIPEG

MTS Allstream has launched MTS HDTV, the next generation of
HDTV, PVR, improved guide features and other TV advancements
to residents in Winnipeg. MTS is the first company in Canada to
launch a digital TV service that includes combined technology from
Alcatel-Lucent and the Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV software plat-
form. Along with an extensive line-up of over 250 digital TV and
music channels and features like VOD, the new services include
30 HDTV channels, with more channels to come in 2009.

Univision Communications and AT&T have signed a multi-year
content agreement as part of the AT&T U-verseSM TV chan-
nel line-up. The agreement includes continued carriage of Univi-
sion’s owned and operated broadcast stations; affiliated stations
owned and operated by Entravision Communications Corporation,
Equity Media Holdings Corporation, Calipatria Broadcasting Com-
pany, and JKB Associates; and distribution of the cable network,

AT&T is now offering at least 100 HDTV channels in every market
it offers its IPTV service U-verse, having recently expanded its
line-up with HD channels from Disney-ABC-ESPN Television,
including ABC Family HD, Disney Channel HD, Disney XD HD,
ESPNews HD and ESPNU HD. AT&T U-verse has two HD sub-
scription options - the U450 programming package costs US$ 10
per month, while the HD Premium Package offers even more HD
channels for an extra US$ 5 per month. Most packages include
the HD-ready Total Home DVR, which enables users to record HD
programmes on a single DVR and stream them to any connected TV.

Verizon has added 18 new channels to market areas in California
including several new HD channels, bringing the total to 110 HD
channels. In comparison, DirecTV provides 104 HD channels. The
channel counts do not take into consideration HD VOD, of which both
companies offer a substantial amount of HD titles in their libraries.
