IMPORTANT NOTE:
Before this patch is installed please ensure that both the 12.1.SP2.6 and 12.1.SP2.7 patches are
both uninstalled; this can be done via Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features
options from the Windows Control Panel. Failure to remove both these patches first will result in
this patch not loading correctly, but will not report an error.
After successfully applying this patch there should be no files with versions 12.1.2.6 or 12.1.2.7; if
there is, one or both of these patches must have been present. The remedy is to remove all the
patches, and reapply this patch.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
After installing the SP2.6 (or later) release, we recommend that you re-save any existing Tags List
definitions in order to avoid any irregularities. Our tests have shown that the Find function

IPR Protection
IPR Protection has been enhanced so that an Admin user can apply a password to a protected database.
When used in conjunction with PML Publisher 2.1 (which allows one or more passwords to be included when
encrypting PML) this allows privileged access from the encrypted PML to protected data provided that the
passwords in the database and in the encrypted PML match. For further details refer to the User Guide PML
Publisher.

PDMS 12.1.SP2.13
Compare/Update
Compare/Update has a new PML method to compare a named configuration. For further details refer to the
User Guide.

Diagrams Rules (Configurable Consistency Check)

A new capability has been introduced in AVEVA Diagrams allowing the Consistency Check Rules to be
configured according to customer requirements and project standards. This development has been
combined with the existing Auto Formatting Rules, to form a new common function that is called Diagrams
Rules.
Using the new function, the Consistency Check Rules that were built-in to previous releases are now
available in an open format. This allows customers to modify or remove the in-built rules, and also to add
their own checking rules as required.
It is now also possible to set up the rules to be executed automatically, for example on connection of shapes,
or if so preferred, they can be still be executed manually as before, for example to allow temporary
inconsistencies.

Automatic Refresh
With previous releases, a Refresh command had to be executed to refresh the currently open drawing with
any updates that had been done directly to the database. For example, if the Command Line or Attributes
form was used to update the database, the Refresh command had to be executed to see the updated data in
the Diagrams Drawing.
A new automatic refresh function has been introduced in this release. This function triggers on Database
Events, and automatically updates the currently open drawing.
For some cases the Refresh Command will still need to be used, for example if changes have been done in
the database and the related drawing was not open at the time.
Known Issue:
Under certain circumstances, the dialogs Import Shape, Edit Shape and Edit master can cause the
automatic refresh to stop working. If this happens, Refresh can still be performed by pressing F5, or pressing
the Refresh icon in the toolbar. Restarting Diagrams will make Automatic refresh work again.
This issue will be fixed in the next available hotfix.

Export of Diagrams Drawings in DGN Format

A new option has been added to export Diagrams drawings in the DGN format. This function is similar to the
existing DWG format export capability, but it has some format specific handling and settings.

Accepted Difference

The object has one or more accepted differences, e.g. it has been
accepted as missing, or an attribute difference has been accepted, or it
has had matching disabled

Connection Error

The connections on the object in 3D are not consistent with the

connections on the matched schematic object, e.g. a branch is connected
to the wrong nozzle

Difference

The values of one or more attributes of the object or its members in 3D

do not conform to the rules, or the sequence of objects in 3D does not
conform to the schematic sequence

Error

An error with the object that can invalidate the comparison will be noted in
the Compare Report and/or the Integrator Messages dialogue, e.g. an
inconsistent connection reference, or a missing GTYP value leading to a
rules evaluation failure

Highlight

This is not used for compare - it is the colour used to highlight objects in
the 3D view when selected in the Main Table or Compare Report

Missing

The object is not matched with an object on the other side, e.g. a
component on the diagram is coloured to show that there is no matching
component in 3D, or an item is missing from the object that is coloured typically a tube in 3D is coloured to show where a component is missing
when compared against the matching segment on the diagram

Not Compared

The objects have not been compared in the current session

OK

Object data has compared correctly according to the rules

PDMS 12.1.SP2.8 Pipe Stress Interface 12.1.SP2
1) PSI 12.1.SP2 now works with CAESAR II 2011 Ver 5.3
2) PSI 12.1.SP2 help is updated with latest enhancements information
3) Sample Psi-defaults.xml file is now supplied in PDMSUSER directory
PDMS 12.1.SP2.8 New Integrator Capability to Accept Differences
Integrator allows a designer to accept differences from the comparison report, for situations where the
3D and schematic models have a different level of detail, or are functionally equivalent but do not
match precisely. Examples include vent and drain detail, instrument connections, and welded
attachments. Note that Integrator automatically ignores MDS trunnions, but trunnions defined by other
means may still be included in the comparison and so could be handled as described below.
The differences can be accepted and managed in the following ways, and will not be flagged up
thereafter in the comparison report:

d52156.doc 20-Mar-2013

Copyright 2013 AVEVA Solutions Limited

Product Release Letter

1. Accept Differences: A pair of linked objects having differences such as attribute values, sizes,
connections or sequence, can be accepted as different.
2. Accept Missing Element: For unmatched objects, such as a drain connection, the corresponding
elements can be accepted as missing. Integrator will still match the object if it is added
subsequently to the model.
3. Disable Matching: For objects that should not be matched ever, such as a tee for a trunnion,
whether or not Integrator has currently matched them, matching can be disabled.
All of these actions can be reversed and the differences will then revert to being flagged up in the
comparison report. Once a number of differences have been accepted it is necessary to redo the
comparison in order to see the effects. This in turn can change which objects are matched and thus
offer more opportunities to accept differences, and so the process may take several cycles to achieve
the desired results.
Setup for Accepting Differences
Note: Before you can accept differences in Integrator you must ensure the necessary UDAs have been
defined, and you must have created and selected an appropriate GPSET.
This functionality requires some UDAs to have been configured by an administrator. The definitions are
included in a PML function. In Lexicon navigate to a writable database then display the Command Line
then type:
!!integratorUDAs()
Note: If you have been using an earlier trial version of the Accept Differences functionality you will
need to run this function to add one of the UDA definitions.
Integrator stores its accepted difference information in GPSET objects. Before using the functionality a
suitable GPSET must have been selected. Use the Integrator settings menu to create suitable GPWL and
GPSET objects and to select a GPSET to write to. The selected GPSET is serialised between sessions.
Integrator writes some attribute information to the GPWL and GPSET to differentiate them from other
objects of the same types.
GPSETs are claimed like other objects and so each concurrent user will need to select their own GPSET
in order to write accepted differences data during their session. Accepted difference data from multiple
GPSETs can be read during a single comparison.
Select Bar Menu > Settings > Accept Differences > Select GPSET then in the dialogue right click on the
preferred GPSET and press Select GPSET. There is also an option to create a GPSET here. The currently
selected GPSET is indicated in the status bar of this dialogue.
Select Bar Menu > Settings > Accept Differences > Create GPWL then in the dialogue enter a name and
select the database in which to create the GPWL.
Select Bar Menu > Settings > Accept Differences > Create GPSET then in the dialogue enter a name and
select the GPWL in which to create the GPSET.
A new compare colour for Accepted Differences has been added to the configuration. The out-of-thebox colour for a new configuration file has been set to colour 120 which is a shade of green.

Product Release Letter

How to Accept Differences
Accepted differences are shown with a small green icon in the report and have their own colour for the
graphical views.

Note: Before a difference on a pair of objects can be accepted, the objects must be linked. If objects
are not linked, the match may not persist in subsequent sessions as it depends on data values and rules
configuration.
If the pair of objects are matched but not linked, right click in the Details tab and select the option to
Link matched elements.

d52156.doc 20-Mar-2013

Copyright 2013 AVEVA Solutions Limited

Product Release Letter

If two objects have not been matched they will be reported on different rows to each other, and may
have been matched to other objects. For example, Integrator by default will not match an SCINST to a
PCOM, but if they have been modelled that way they can be linked to preserve the design intent. Right
click in the Details tab on one of the objects, click on Select for Linking, and then click on the required
object. Then right click on the other object and click to Link the required pair (there may be more than
one choice of link candidates). After a redo of the comparison they will be lined up in the report. The
Accept Differences option in the right click menu will then be enabled.
To accept a difference on a pair of linked objects, right click and select Accept Differences.

To accept an unmatched object, right click and select Accept missing element.

Alternatively if the object is never to be matched then select Disable matching. In the case of a tee
connection, where the connecting branch is not connected into the piping network at its other end, the
branch will also be accepted as missing, or disabled for matching. This allows, for example, drain
connections not detailed on the P&ID to be accepted in one operation.

To reverse acceptance of a difference, right click and select Reject accepted differences.

To reverse acceptance of a missing element, right click and select Reject acceptance of missing
element.

d52156.doc 20-Mar-2013

Product Release Letter

To reverse a disabled match, right click and select Enable matching.

After a number of accept or reject operations, redo the comparison to see the effect.
Ignoring MDS Trunnions
Integrator automatically ignores MDS trunnions. Trunnions are identified as any 3D branch with
:MDSTrun TRUE. This means any trunnion defined in an application other than MDS can be handled in
the same way by setting this UDA. Four connection scenarios are handled:
An MDS cross will be matched with a schematic tee
An MDS reducer will be matched with a two way schematic reducer
An MDS elbow will be treated like a two way elbow and thus not significant for comparison
An MDS set-on tee will be ignored and thus not matched or treated as missing
Note that differences in the SPREF attribute for an MDS cross or reducer will be ignored and will not be
available to copy to 3D in the compare report.
Comparison Options
Integrator has a new option which allows you to set whether accepted differences will be ignored, i.e.
reported as if the difference had not been accepted.

The Tags uic files for this release have been updated. This was necessary because of the addition of the
Claims/Release for non-extract database items functionality. There are now some new commands in the Records
Group in the Home Tab in Tags. The uic file, used for customising the Ribbon UI, can be customised by any user and
if the old version is used the new commands will not be available.

P&ID Integration UDA definition change
If using the AVEVA P&ID to Tags integration in Compare/Update, please note that the integration UDA pmg-engipid should have its UDA Length increased to 150 characters.

PDMS 12.1.SP2.4 Compare/Update new Configuration Wizard and Integration with AVEVA P&ID
Compare/Update has been enhanced to be more flexible in the lists of objects it can compare. A new
configuration wizard included in this release enables an administrator to define project specific lists with
their own types, attribute mappings and filters. There is also a new capability to compare engineering
objects with data from AVEVA P&ID. Refer to the Compare/Update User Guide section on Options for
more information.
Please note the following limitations in this release. These limitations will be addressed in future releases.
The ability to automatically create reverse configurations is not available in Diagrams and
Outfitting in this version. Instead the reverse configurations can be easily created in the other
modules. For example, a configuration defined in Diagrams could have source data from
engineering, in which case the reverse configuration could be defined in Tags with source data
from schematics.
The ability to link objects is limited in this version to schematic and design types used in piping,
equipment, HVAC and cables, design rooms and schematic areas, and to engineering items. It is
currently not possible to link other types. These types must be matched by name.
The selected configuration is not reopened when the user presses the Refresh button in
Compare/Update. So if it has been modified by an admin user in a concurrent session, the end
user will need to re-enter the module in order to get the updated configuration.

PDMS 12.1.SP2.1: Status Control Layout Scope

The new Status Control functions have been enthusiastically adopted by many customers. This increasing
use has led to the creation of larger and more complex status workflows, which has highlighted a need to
improve the performance of both the Status Controller Addin and PDMS itself. In some cases, users were
deliberately ending the application process, believing that PDMS had hung. This development resolves:
(SI-40385) PDMS-Status Controller: One specific issue was with all status data being loaded on addin startup, whilst the PDMS splash screen was being shown. This only occurred if the application had been exited
when the Status Controller was still visible, along with a saved layout. Still, this was not ideal, as the user
may no longer have been interested in status data.
(SI-39893, P-41817) Status Controller Low performance: Another specific issue was time taken to perform
certain actions from the command window, whilst the Status Controller was open, for example:
/*
NEW SITE
NEW ZONE
NEW PIPE

General Solution
Both incidents suggested a mechanism for limiting scope. Status Layout Scope has been implemented on
that basis. The enhancement allows users to target returned data to what they are actually interested in,
e.g. by certain database types, starting points in the hierarchy. Applying a scope to a Status Layout means
that potentially, only a subset of data needs calculating, which results in a much more responsive user
experience.

Functional Overview
The scope is stored within the Status Layout itself. When a scope is not found within a status layout, the
user is presented with the following, which alerts them to the lack of scope and gives them the
opportunity to set one:

When creating a new Status Layout, the user will automatically be taken to set its scope and the prompt
above will not be seen. The Status Layout Scope can also be modified at any time using the new toolbar
button on the Status Layout toolbar as shown below.

The user is provided with the standard PDMS Reference Picker and Browser, for setting the layouts scope.

The Status Grid will be populated with all relevant data given the scope set, once the final dialog has been
confirmed. In this case, we get 10 items: very different to the 6,000+ with no scope set and therefore
much quicker.

Solution to SI-40385
Scope is stored alongside all other data in the Status Layout itself. The scope flag will not be found in
Status Layouts created in previous versions of PDMS. If this is detected on start-up, data loading will be
skipped. If this happens, the Status Controller will look like this when loading has completed:

If the user clicks anywhere on the Status Controller, they will be shown the same alert as per the general
solution discussed above.
If a scope is set and the layout is then saved, the user will see the new scope next time on start-up. If
however, they have seen the message, no scope is set and the layout is saved, the user is deemed to have
specifically set a full scope, which will be applied to the file. It follows that PDMS will no longer skip full
population on start-up.
Solution to SI-39893
This has been addressed by speeding up the algorithms updating the Status Grid, when a database change
occurs. A general improvement of about 10% was made due to a bug fix. A further fix has been applied,
which isolates the inefficiencies to current status layout controllable elements only, which can further be
addressed by the setting of a scope.

Description
Hotfixes 13 and later of 12.1.SP2 use an
updated version of the Office Primary
Interop Assemblies in order to use Excel
2007 features. Unfortunately, this is not
compatible with Office 2003, which has
been usable but unsupported in earlier
versions of 12.1.
When using the Excel Export / Import
feature in AVEVA Diagrams or Schematic
Model Manager, Inline components should
not be edited in any way using the
Element Type Data Mode. The
sequence of the items within the segment
of the pipe line will be re-ordered. This will
lead to the database and drawing
becoming inconsistent.
There will also be issues from the change
in sequence if the pipeline is compared
using Schematic 3D integrator.
Items not to be edited in Excel using this
process are;
SCFITT (Schematic Fittings)
SCINST (Schematic Instruments) and
SCVALV (Schematic Valves)
or any other item included in-line.
Any editing of these components should
be done using the Database View(s) this
will preserve the order in the segment and
avoid this issue.
See Helpdesk Knowledge Base 4662 for
possible target fix release.

Recommended Workaround
Upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007 or
2010.

Description
Updating any Reference attribute in Tags
grid via Excel Import displays error.
The error is triggered, If reference
attribute UDA name (e.g :PIDNO1) is used
as the column heading in the excel sheets
to be imported.
Excel Export fails if "Remove leading
slash from Reference attributes option
checked in Excel Export Interface Wizard
form.
LICAD interface executable file cannot be
found error displayed on Windows XP
even when the correct evar path is set.

Recommended Workaround
The workaround is to remove the
colon character from the reference
UDA column heading before importing
the excel sheets.
e.g. change the heading from
:PIDNO1 to PIDNO1.
In Excel Export Interface Wizard
Form, "Remove leading slash from
Reference attributes option checkbox
should be left unchecked.
Issue occurs when LICAD is installed
at default location and is caused by
the shortening of the evar file path in
the main evars.bat file.
To resolve the issue, remove the line,
for %%x in ("%licadmdsexe%") do set
licadmdsexe=%%~dfsx
from the evars.bat file.
A more detailed description of the
issue can be found in the MDS fix
release bulletin.

DICE now checks that names are no

longer than the maximum permitted,
usually 50 characters but 120 for some
Draft element types. These limits are the
same as at 12.0 and earlier versions,
although with Unicode the limits are now
more consistent (the limit for Chinese,
Korean and Japanese characters is now
also 50 or 120, whereas previously it was
something less than half this). Please note
that the AVEVA MAS project contains one
such name, which will generate an error
message:

Please avoid exceeding the

permissible limit as the results may be
unpredictable.

Warning: Attribute NAME of element

=15219/156 has longer than expected
value.
Value /AVEVA-Std-AssociationCableTray-Cway-Definitions-Group
contains 55 characters, expect maximum
of 50
This may safely be ignored and will be
corrected in future releases.

The use of ASCII (Basic Latin) filenames is

recommended for compatibility with other
systems and various specific issues which
have yet to be resolved.
Updating the Working Extract Number on the
