Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The lesson uses audio for the auditory learners in the classroom. The
assignment is also a visual focus so visual learners are also supported. The audio recorded for the lesson has a
transcript also provided for emerging bilinguals as well as those that have difficulty hearing.
Lesson idea implementation:
The introduction to the lesson will be used by a flipped classroom page on my blog. Students will be given
a homework assignment through an audio recording I have posted on the blog. I will also provide a transcript
for students who have a hard time hearing. As students complete their assignment, they will draw the figures
they see to share during the think pair share activity the next class day. After having a discussion, we’ll extend
the activity to talk more about geometric shapes and how they can be categorized.
Taking the drawn images of all the students, the students will work on composing shapes in the classroom
in pairs. As they go through drawing new shapes, they will look to see if it has a name and its key factors
(sides, lengths, and more). Once their done, they will present shapes that the teacher picked to share with the
class. To close the activity, they will watch a video to wrap up the lesson and discuss shortly what they learned
through a formative assessment of an exit ticket.
Importance of technology: The website creation tool serves an introduction to this lesson. Students will be
doing critical thinking in their environment to see how Math is a factor in their everyday lives. This project can
be completed without technology as I can give students a write up of this activity. The video for the closing
activity is also a technology that is used.
Inspiration (optional):
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: When accessing the blog, I will make sure to protect students’ name
and privacy. I will also use password protection if I give any student information to minimize risks and
alleviate parents’ fears.

Reflective Practice:
This lesson is great for critical thinking for students. It helps them connect their background experiences to
learning which is engaging. To further extend the project, I can showcase students work on the blog to
showcase their drawings/findings to other classrooms as well as their parents. This can also prove to be helpful
for students as they can go back to this section when working with other math problems in the unit.
