    According to IS 456:2000, the number of concrete cube sets that can be cast per 1 cubic meter of concrete is approximately 49. [The standard size of a concrete cube is 150mm x 150mm x 150mm. With this size, 296 cubes can theoretically be cast from 1 cubic meter of concrete.     The acceptance criteria for quality of Plain and Reinforced Cement Concrete is
    laid down in IS: 456-2000.

    Concrete Cube is normally tested on 7 and 28 day of concreting until any special
    requirement for early test. A set of 6 cube moulds are casted with 3 cube moulds on 7th day
    and another 3 cube moulds on 28th day.

    The minimum frequency of sampling of concrete of each grade shall be in accordance with
    IS:456-2000 with the following :

    NOTE – Atleast one sample shall be taken from each shift. Where concrete is produced at
    continuous production unit, such as ready-mixed concrete plant, frequency of sampling
    may be agreed upon mutually by suppliers and purchasers.

    There are different size of concrete cube moulds as , 50,100,150,225 and 300 mm.

    Usually at site we use 150 mm size cube.

    Volume of a Cube Mould = 150mm x 150mm x150 mm


    = 0.15m x 0.15m x 0.15 m

    = 0.003375 Cum.

    The number of cubes can be casted in ONE Cum of Concrete .

    = 1 / 0.003375

    = 296.296

    = 296 Cubes

    One Set contains 6 Cube, therefore

    = 296/6

    = 49.33

    So, Number of Concrete cubes Sets per Cum = 49 Cubes (Approx. )

    NOTE – 49 Cube Sets can be casted without considering any wastage factor.

    A concrete cube is of the size 150mm and thus it's volume will be 0.15 x 0.15 x 0.15 =
    0.003375 Cubic meter

    So theoretically, One Cubic metre of concrete should be able to cast (1/0.003375)= 296.29
    cubes considering no concrete is wasted during handling of the same.

    As a rule of thumb, if a wastage of 10% is considered, the number of cubes that can be cast
    with one cubic metre of concrete will be 296.29/1.10 = 269.35 cubes, say approximately 270
    cubes.

    This 269 cubes translates to 270/3 = 90 sets of concrete cubes.

    As per IS 456 code,

    Freqvency of sampling

    Minimum samples of cube per m3 concrete quantity…..

    For 1–5 m3 concrete - 1sample - 3cubes

    For 6-15 m3 concrete - 2sample - 6cubes

    For 16–30m3 concrete - 3sample - 9cubes

    For 31–50m3 concrete - 4sample - 12cubes

    For greater than51 m3 concrete - (4+1)sample - i.e. for every 50m3 - 1 sample additional

    Refferance IS456:2000 clause 15.2 page 29

    As per IS 456 code,

    Freqvency of sampling

    According to above image or according to is 456:2000 28days cube strength

    And

    In 1 sample there are 3 number of cube taken for testing of finding out compressive
    strength.

    And in extra

    Additional 1 sample is taken of 7days cube strength.

    Total sample:-

    28days number samples according to volume of concrete + additional 1 sample

    Standard size of concrete cube is 15cmx15cmx15cm

    number of cubes in per M3 of concrete = 1/(0.15*0.15*0.15) = 296Nos..

    So in M3 of concrete You can make 296 nos of concrete Cubes..
