VTR Ordo Dracul Coil Mysteries of The Predator v.2
VTR Ordo Dracul Coil Mysteries of The Predator v.2
This a mystery based around the Vampire as superior predator, as that which consumes. The coils of this
mystery refer to Prey, each prey type is a unique supernatural type, the coils ability only applies to that
type of prey. The Dragon must have a skill specialization related to their chosen prey. The coils can be
relearned for new prey types at -1xp, minimum 1 xp.
Scales for this mystery are unique to each prey, and all involve using the body parts of the prey. They
often necessitate killing an individual, though for some scales one body might provide multiple uses.
The benefits of the coil can apply to related creatures, but the scales require more specific prey
1) Predators Senses: You can use Wits+occult+coils to detect traces of your prey in the general area
(roughly one floor of a house). Success will only tell you if the prey frequents and area commonly, but
exceptional success will also reveal if they have been there recently or are currently present.
You can spend a point of vitae to be able to identify individual as your prey for the scene. This lets you
see through a human form they assume through Mask, Shapeshift, possession, or similar, but does not
let you see them if they were naturally invisible. You can use blood sense to identify if the blood came
from your prey type and gain 9 again on such a roll.
2) Unseen Hunter: Your predators’ aura is automatically hidden from your prey, and you do not
automatically appear as non-human to spiritual senses. Instead such senses Clash. If are under the effect
of the Blush of Life, physical senses, even supernaturally enhanced ones, do not detect you as non-
human. This power doesn’t hide your presence, just your nature. This power can cause a Clash of Will, if
it does add your dots in the Coil to your dice pol
Also you gain the 9-again rule on any roll to remain hidden from your prey while hunting them.
3) Feed on Power.
You gain the Unnatural Affinity merit for your chosen prey. If you already have this merit, the xp is
refunded.
If your prey has a power resource (Glamour, mana, pyros, etc), can drain this for power. If you could
normally get vitae from draining they're blood, you feed at the same time, draining one resource for
each lethal damage of drain and gaining an extra vitae for each point drained.
If the prey does not have blood you could drain, you can still feed on the resource to gain vitae. This
causes a point of lethal damage per resource drained.
4) Predatory Superiority.
Add your dots in this coil as a bonus on all contested rolls vs your prey's supernatural powers. Also you
can substitute your dots in this merit for an attribute when determining resistance against any of your
prey's supernatural powers.
You can have a max of 5 powers gained by this ability, even if you have multiple prey types. You may
reflexively forget a power when using Drain the Soul to make room for a new power.
Hunters:
They’re mortal. Using mortal supernatural merits is covered by a different coil.
Beast:
Nope. Not gonna bother.
Changeling:
This is the splat that inspired the idea, so I it works the easiest. The coil also applies to Fae-touched, but
not hobgoblins or true fae as they lack the mortal aspect that is important. The dragon can buy the coils
for such prey at 1xp.
1) Spending a Vitae allows the Vampire so see past the changeling’s Mask. If the Changeling is
reinforcing their mask, this produces a clash of wills. This does not allow the vampire to see
through contracts that render the changeling invisible or out of phase, but does see clash
with abilities to disguise or hide, and does identify changelings in other forms.
2) Keening produces a clash of wills. Any contract used to specifically identify vampires, or the
threat of this vampire produces a clash of wills. Contracts that allow the Changeling to see a
part of the Vampires mind which they could use to deduce that the Predator is a Vampire
get around this coil
3) Drinking the Changeling blood drains glamour and causes lethal damage. Granting 2 Vitae.
4) Normal
5) The vampire can acquire any common contract the Changeling knew. Substitute Blood
Potency for Wyrd for dice pools, but not Mantle (the seasons recognize the Vampire as an
outsider and are not happy). Use Vitae instead of glamour. The Vampire cannot use seeming
abilities or loopholes.
Scales:
Taste Of Glamour (predator’s senses): A paste is prepared of arcane ingredients mixed with
changeling blood. The subject much allow the paste the dry on their tongue. Until sunrise when
using blood sense they can also determine the targets greatest desire/wrath/fear/despair
(depending on the season)
Hedge Key (Devour the Soul): The fingerbones of a changeling are bound into a rough key shape
using intestines of the changeling and other arcane ingreadiants (this kill the changeling but it’s
possible to make up to 2 keys). The subject then swallows the key and uses a point of vitae to
lodge it inside them.
While the key is inside them, the subject can open hedgegates by spending a point of vitae.
They cannot naturally perceive hedgegates on the mortal side. While in the hedge they cannot
consciously hedgespin, but their vampiric nature causes the hedge to naturally shift to reflect
them. The area becomes dark, dangerous, and fit for predators. Unless another being performs
a paradigm shift, the light in the hedge does not count as sunlight to the vampire.
The key lasts for a number of sunrises equal to the donors wyrd.
Demon
This coils ability also apply to Offspring and Fractals. It does not apply to Angels or Stigmatics. Stimagtics
essentially still human. A dragon who possess this coil can relearn it for Angels for 1xp, use the
Ghost/Spirit rules, but only for Angels.
1) Demons have incredible ability to hide their nature. Spoofing can still be used against the
active use of this coil, but the dice pool has a penalty equal to the vampire’s dots in this coil.
Failure represents compromise. This coil can potentially Clash with embeds. It gives no
ability to help detect when a demon is lying. The vampire gains no bonus to identify the
nature of the demon’s other covers unveil one cover
2) This can potentially clash with embeds.
3) Normal, drains aether deal damage.
4) Normal
5) This completely destroys the demon. The vampire gains a single Embed the demon knew,
each use of the embed costs 1 vitae. The vampire does not
Scales:
Stolen Face (hidden predator): The dragon cuts off the demon’s face and uses a mixture of vitae
and other ingredients to attach it to anothers face. (This causes 1 point of aggravated damage to
the demon).
The dragon rolls Wits+Medicine+Coil, success means that the subject assumes the faces Cover,
with a rating equal to the successes rolled. This allows them use Spoofing, and Legend (but only
for skills and internal merits). The cover does not protect a vampire from their banes. Anything
use of vampiric powers or effects triggers Compromise. The unnatural nature of the stolen cover
adds an extra 2 dice modifier to any compromise roll.
Vampiric healing will cause the mask to be rejected on waking, unless the subject spends a
willpower. Ever time the vampire does this causes compromise. If the face is removed for any
reason it loses all it’s properties and is worthless.
The demon does not have access to the stolen cover until the face is removed. If the Cover’s
value fell to zero well stolen it is gone. If it does not the demon suffers immediate compromise.
Werewolf
This coil also applies to wolfblooded. It does not apply to spirits, and does not give an xp discount for
spirits.
1) The active version of this coil can see the werewolf’s nature in any form. It can clash with
gifts, but does not to see other realms.
2) The werewolf’s spiritual senses are clouded by the passive ability when attempting to detect
the vampire’s nature. When under the blush of life this also clouds the werewolf’s physical
senses.
3) Normal. Doesn’t make it easier to deal with the werewolf
4) Normal
5) Gain one Gift. Substitute Blood Potency for Primal Urge, but not for renown.
Scales:
Raging Beast (feed on power): A mixture of werewolf blood and arcane ingredients is prepared,
and the vampire subject consumes this (the amount of blood is equivalent to 2 points of lethal
damage, and cannot have been turned into vitae).
The fury of the werewolf’s beast spirit merges and wars with the vampires Beast. Until sunrise
the vampire’s dice pool to resist frenzy is reduced to a chance die. Any effect of their beast is
automatically Bestial. While they frenzy add the Dragon’s dots in this coil to the subject’s
effective blood potency. They gain the Claws of Frenzy merit, even if they do not meet the
prerequisites.
Mages:
If these Coils are considered irrelevant because there is no way any Vampire could possibly win against
any Mage ever, then every mage and archmage across all time, space, and form of existence is turned
into a mundane crab. In every aspect. There is no resistance, no response, no contingencies may be
applied, this effect cannot be undone.
Assuming you’re not a giant faggot.
1) Mage sight that would look at a vampire energy or aura is constantly fooled and produces a
clash of wills. Mage sight that would look at the nature of the vampires physically damage is
affected if the Vampire is under blush of life, producing a clash of wills.
2) The Spending a Vitae to activate this ability, the Vampire can identify that the individual is a
mage no matter their form. If a spell or other ability would make the mage invisibile to visual
light or another sense this does not allow the vampire to perceive them by that sight. If the spell
or ability would attempt to cloud the vampires senses, or attentions, then this produces a clash
of will.
3) Drinking the Mages blood drains mana and does lethal damage. Granting 2 vitae.
4) Like normal for contested rolls and resistances.
5) Not sure. A single spell is weak, but a full Arcana is huge. And restricting it to just the first dot
doesn’t seem like it solves the problem.
Promethean
This coil also applies to Pandorans, but doe not apply to Qashmats.
1) The vampire using the active ability can see the Created’s deformity at all times. They can
also detect dormant pandorans.
2) Normal. Transmutations might clash
3) The pryos that animates a Promethean is not blood that can feed a Vampire. Feeding on
Promethean does lethal damage and drains pyros, but only gains vitae from the drained
pyros.
4) Normal
5) The vampires gains one alembic with all its distillations. Use Vitae instead of Pyros for costs,
and Blood Potency for Azor. Charging a distillation causes the Vampires nature to come to
the surface, their appearance is undeniably monstrous. They suffer penalties for on all social
rolls with mortals as if they were Humanity 1.
Scales:
The Waking Heart (Feed On Power): The dragon removes the created heart and surgically
implants it into the subject using vitae and other arcane ingredients. (This kill the Promethian,
and performing the surgery on yourself would require superhuman will and remarkable talent).
The heart is the seat of Azor and the Promethean’s natural generation of pyros with the dawn
fills the subject with a taste of that power. The subject does not need to spend a Vitae to
awaken each night, the heart’s pyros provides that power.
The unnatural nature of this process causes a great buildup of flux. Each time the subject
awakens they generate a level 1 Wasteland. As long as they sleep and wake there the wasteland
festers and spreads as if created by an Azor of the subjects blood potency+1. If this results in a
Firestorm, the energy of that storm will always strike out at the subject.
Ghost/Spirits:
Ghosts and Spirits are different enough that they must be bought separately. But they are closely
related enough that rebuying the coil cost only 1xp.
1) The active effect of this coil allows the vampire to determine the nature of a manifested or
possessing spirit. They can also determine if a spirit is in the Twilight near them but cannot
directly perceive or interact with the spirit without other tools. The passive ability works
even if the spirit is only present in the twilight.
2) Normal
3) The vampire can feed on manifesting or possessing spirit. Doing so causes a point of damage
to the spirits corpos, and drains a point of essence. This essence drained provides the
vampire with vitae. If the spirit is possessing a host the vampire can feed on, then they can
drain the host at the same time with standard results. If another ability allows the vampire
to interact with an unmanifested spirit, it is possible for them to feed on it’s essence
4) Normal
5) The vampire gains one Numia
Scale:
Ghost Rending Claws (Feed on Power): The dragon regurgitates vitae they gained by
draining a spirits essence and mixes it with special herbs. The resulting mixture is applied to
the subjects hands, eyes, and possibly mouth.
Until sunrise the subject can perceive spirits in the Twilight, and can use brawl to interact
with them even if they are not manifested. This includes allowing the subject to feed on the
spirit if they possess the Unnatural Affinity merit.
Vampires
A Predator can choose to prey on they’re own kind. The advantages of this Mystery are less, but the
shared nature makes them easier to learn. New Coils cost only 2 xp.
1) The active power allows the Predator to Clash with any ability that would hide the preys
aura.
2) The Predator aura is surpressed at all time. While under the Blush of Life, even tasting the
vampires blood does not automatically reveal their nature.
3) The Cannibal Predator Gains additional value from feeding on Kindred. When feeding
directly they may gain 3 vitae for each 2 drained, but doing so causes the 1 lethal damage
for each vitae drained.
4) Normal.
5) The Vampire naturally possess the ability to drain the dark soul of another. By dedicating
themselves to this Coil the act has become second nature. Diablerie is a route action.
There are no Scales. The vampire nature is already present in the Dragon. Scales for the
vampiric nature are covered in other Coils.
Stryx
To hunt the terror of ones own existence, to turn from victim to predator, is the most dangerous
and ultimate act of embracing the Supreme Predator
1) The ability to identify a Stryx within a possessed host would be an incredibly valuable skill,
but alas it is not that easy. To find a Stryx roll Wits+Coil- Blood Potency as an extended
action, each roll representing 10 minutes of study. TN 4 for Corpse, 6 for Revenant, 8 for
Kindred, 10 for mortal.
2) This functions much like the vampire version, but provides a natural defense against being
found in sleep or torpor to possess.
3) The Predator can attempt to feed on they have found possessing a host. They may either
drain the vitae without causing harm, or cause harm to both Stryx and host while draining.
They could feed upon an ephemeral stryx, causing damage and draining vitae, if they can
restrain it. If the vampires spirit could be awakened while possessed, they may attempt to
feed on the possessor.
4) Normal.
5) This should be a unique story event. Finding a way to disable a Stryx long enough to drain
it’s very essence, and resisting the attempt of the Shadow to possess the vampire, is worthy
of a unique role. (in other words I haven’t figured it out yet, but it’s complex and basically a
whole scene to do)
